Well with wooden ones you can just light a match and then sweep up the bolts.

With steel coasters, the track and supports are cut up into smaller pieces and it is taken off to the local junk yard/recycling center. (Like Shockwave was)
Finally Coaster Season!!

Wood coasters are usually torn down by a tractor and a length of chain, though every now and then they use a wrecking ball, both are effective.

For steel, it's cut up into managable pieces then a recycling company will pay the park per ton of steel.

For both footers are usually left in the ground, though jackhammered to be level with the ground unless they are not in the way of anything.
Favorite Wood Coasters: The Voyage, Ravine Flyer II, Thunderhead, Balder
Favorite Steel: Voltron Nevera, Steel Vengeance, Expedition GeForce, Olympia Looping
Parks visited: 232, Coasters Ridden: Steel: 894, Wood: 179, Total: 1073

As the case with the Riverview Bobs, the demolition crew used one of the Bobs cars to help knock it down.
If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.

I would love to go back in time just to ride it. (ETA on a time machine anyone?) What happened to the remains of Riverview anyway (besides the carousel)

I'd love to go back in time and ride all the SFGAm coasters that were taken out. Especially Shockwave, I wish I got the chance to go on it mroe than 6 times.

Gone. Now there is a Dominicks, a police station, strip mall, and Devry I beleive. As far as the time machine goes, well, the Delorin is just about done, now I just have to find some platonium.

Hard to imagine anybody would hate the Bobs. Just looking at the layout is amazing.

Just riding the NL ride makes me want to scream!

What I meant is what happened to all of the rides that were taken out of Riverview? What was destroyed? What was saved?

Everything was leveled, with the exception of the carousel. I beleive that the cars from the Fireball went to another park, but to which park I am not sure.
Its a damn shame about Riverview. I drove by the where the park use to be last week, and just thinking that the "worlds greatest amusement park" once occupied the area is kind of erie. To bad it sat on some high price real estate. It could have been the Kennywood of Chicago.

Flat rides were saved from Riverview.

Cajun Cliffhanger was originally from Riverview. It was one of the first Chance Rotor's.

for a long time there was a plaque in front of the ride (actually near the exit), the plaque disappeared around the mid-late 90's)

Also worth noting, only the ride itself came from Riverview, building was custom built for SFGAm, and that is why PGA didnt get one, as Cajun was the only one on the used ride market at the time. (I wouldnt doubt if it's Riverview histroy wasnt the driving force behind Marriott buying it and installing it at our SFGAm)

Thanks FP, I didn't know that. I wonder what other rides besides the carousel, were spared the destruction.
