new Arrow/Vekoma retrofit train

There is a pic of the new train installed last last night on a Boomerang at Wiener Prater, initial reviews are extraordinarily positive, even the lack of lapbar padding they say isn't bad.

No one knows exactly who made those, but it says SAT and Made in Germany on them, no one knows who SAT is, but if those trains are successful, I get the feeling a lot of people are going to get to know the name ::)

Would be nice to see those on all the remaining large Arrow loopers and the numerous Vekomas.

How are the metals lap bars comfortable, I'd see it rather painful if the ride was rough. But they do look like Intamin rocket trains.

forgot to mention that the reviewer said that the lapbar was 5-10cm from his belly that it comes down on your legs. So it shouldn't be to bad unless you're on a ride that hangs you upside down for an extended period.

I like those trains. They're very modern- and comfortable-looking. Well, I mean so longs as ops don't staple you. Regardless, they'd be better than the big boob restraints that are currently on Demon. You know what I'm talking about.

I agree, they look pretty unpaded, however, i guess you never really know til you try them. And for that matter, i'm sure they aren't more painful than the headbanging on some of these arrow loopers *cough Ninja cough*, so it would be interesting to see these over here.

that's some other company, though I forget the name but it may be called Rotational Motion though I dont see anything for it on Google, I know it's a real small company though, not sure they've ever done coaster cars before.

I think that Six Flags should buy these and add them to every Arrow/ Vekoma looping coaster they have. How about putting these on Demon here at Great America. Maybe the lapbar effect might make loading faster. They might also increase ridership with no headbanging and have a greater audience as kids probably won't be scared of the ride if there were only lapbars, but I don't have kids so I don't know.


Imagine if this train was invented when Shockwave was still around. These trains would have made that Coaster really good and more comfortable. Seriously, when I first rode Shockwave in 2002, my mouth bled a little.

When I went on Raging Bull with somebody who isn't a huge coaster fan, they kept on talking about how they were frightened by the fact that it only had a lap bar, and it didn't feel too "secure".

I agree with cycamps, but disagree. If these restraints are hydraulic and not pneumatic, I think they could and do work very well.

The thing is, is I love Viper (with a lil room) and I love Bull wiith it all the way down cause of the heights and "inversions."

I love BtR and DV. Even loved Shockwave *cry*. I like feeling strapped in yet powerless. But thos OTRS's use pneumatic type drives. If BtR was to have this with, I think, a hydraulic system with just lap bars, it would be AWESOME!!!!

Heh, I was a bit nervous to go on Mr. Freeze because of that. But I love it with just a lapbar.

It would be awesome if Demon got those trains.

I haven't been on Mr. Freeze, but if it still had those OTSRs it would probably kill your neck.

Which ride would you say is rougher - Mr. Freeze or Demon?

Theres no way any insurance company would agree to lapbars on Demon, just look at California Screamin.

what's so different between Demon and the other dozen or so multi loopers in the US with lapbars, like all the Premeir coasters.

Also further up in this thread, I dont believe the schafer lapbar train is Hydraulic nor Pnuematic, partially cause there is no such thing as a pnuematic restraint locking mechanism. Pretty sure it's a standard ratchet.

Parker, there is a Locking Pneumatic restraint.

Ragin' Cajun uses them.

I forget who manufactures them, they are OK, but after a little bit of time exhibit a lot of creep.

Air has to much spring to be an effective locking mechanism, figured those were Hydraulic, but again, is a French design.
