Headbanging

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby [jonrev] on October 17th, 2005, 3:33 pm
Do all Arrow coasters cause headbanging? Demon does it and Shockwave did it. I was also told that GASM at SF Great Adventure causes headbanging too.

Most likely if there older. The track design wasnt exactly desinged to be smooth. Thats what twister costers are for.

I didn't bang my head on Viper at SFMM or Corkscrew at CP. So I guess the answer to your question is no.

No. Corkscrew at Valleyfair is smooth and I haven't banged my head yet.

I usually dont experience headbanging, but thats because Im 6'2". The only coaster that causes headbanging to me is Flashback @ SFNE. Damn Vekoma boomerangs.

Not ALL of the Arrow coasters have headbanging. Corkscrew's isn't that bad. But the older they become, it seems they get rougher. And they give me a headache!

^ I think Demon gets rougher, but I've learned to keep my head straight against the head rest the whole ride. You've probably adjusted to this too, and don't even realize it.

Hey here's a concept, make sure that your head is against the headrest at all times. If you are using your neck muscles to keep your head there, it won't be a limp noodle, and won't let your head knock back and forth against the shoulder harness.
Welcome to ShockWave please pull your harness down as far as it will go. While riding ShockWave please keep your hands and feet inside the car, and your head against the headrest, please hold on to all loose articles, especially hats and glasses. Enjoy your ride!

Demon is getting worse and worse with each passing year. It doesn't seem to matter what train or what row I'm in either. The red train is especially bad.

You all haven't ridden a ROUGH coaster. Demon is silky smooth for an Arrow. Quite possibly the smoothest left. Why don't you ride any other Arrow Looper and tell everyone how it feels.

low42 wrote:I have to somewhat agree with JG. I think location is a big issue here. It was perfect for SW, being able to see the whole parking lot and entire park (especially lit up at night) from being so high. On the flip side, it's a horrible spot for S:UF. S:UF would be a much more engaging ride if it were over water, through trees, next to a hill, etc. It's a double whammy- a boring ride stuck in a boring location.

I don't understand. Would you care to explain how you liked Shock Wave and you think Demon is too rough? When Shock Wave was around, it's roughness was above and beyond what Demon's is.

Just ride Ninja at Six Flags St. Louis, Demon will seem smooth compared to this thing.

For me, it isn't the shoulder harnesses that cause the headaches... it's my head vibrating on the hard plastic headrests that does it for me. That's my main problem on Demon, I alway seem to whack my head on the headrest coming out of the first vertical loop.

As far as other Arrow coasters I've ridden...

Smoothest:
Corkscrew @ Valleyfair!
Demon
Top Gun @ PKI
Ninja @ SFOG (I know it's Vekoma, but I LOVED this ride!!)

Roughest:
Shockwave
Python @ BGT
Excalibur @ VF (Even though there are no OTSR's, this ride was awful!)
Vortex @ PKI (Another one where my head vibrates on the headrest.)
Finally Coaster Season!!

^Actually, Ninja has Arrow trains and the trains would be mostly responsible for the head-banging so you can call it an Arrow.

As mschulz5 stated about your quote, how do you not like Demon but Shockwave was not rough enough?

The Demon is so smooth... for me at least, my head goes way above the restraints and it feels like were gliding along the corkscrews, I love it. The Demon is simply a classic and will never get old. I would ride that ride over and over.

Anyways, It depends on the headrest in my opinion, cause if your head goes above the restraints then to make it better you need a softer headrest. This is why I thought VIPER at SFMM was really rough  The headrest was so hard...(headache) and yes alot of arrows rides can be rough, look at X, its new-er and it gives off a bumpy riggidy ride and its still really fun so I guess its up to the rider if its a too rough or not too rough ride :)
