Alton Towers...

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby CoastsToCoasters on October 14th, 2005, 11:59 pm
Has anyone here been to Alton Towers before? If you have please tell me what its like. I love what they do with their coasters because of their restriction...Its so well themed and has an assortment of excellent thrills. Not many amusement parks can tell riders theyll never return from underground, you wont make it out alive, as theyve done with Oblivion. Its things like that, that Alton has such a unique quality and individualality.

Sorry I talk so much Im obsesed with this place and Ive never even been there   I just wanted to hear peoples views on it if they have visited.

-Thank You!

Well, I've been there, and I was filled with quite alot of anticipointment.

Park was nothing like i expected, park was covered with trash and grafitti, everyone on ECO called it Six Flags Alton Towers. Rides were neat though. Air is one of the better Flying Coasters around. Nemisis was not as intense as i expected but was still a top notch ride, especially in the front row where you could see all the themeing. Rest of the rides were fairly standard for what they were. The Hex, their Vekoma Haunted Swing outright Rocked. easily the best haunted swing I've ever done (wont give out any details, it's better left a suprise).

Park is to big for it's own good, it's a good 30 minute walk from Nemesis to Air or Obliveon, and you can go down unpaved forrest paths for that, which is neat though still trash covered.

Obliveon sucked IMHO, 2 hour line with the worlds worst designed queue for a less than 10 second ride after the lift. It goes Drop, Turn, final brakes and that's all folks, drop is ok, nothing special, turn is also nothing to write home about.

I guess that's it, if you have any specific questions, ask and I could probably answer them.

Thanks for answering, Wow...Dont you hate that, when you "over excite" yourself thinking somethings amazing and it doesnt come close to what you thought it would be? Sorry, I hope it was still enjoyable for you-?

Did you go before this season or recently for RITA, cause as far as I knew, "she" was an awsome ride according to the GP, but I read this article on a site called coaster kingdom and this guy wrote like a whole essay on why its a bad and clashy addition. I just think that whatever ALTON seems to get...Its amazing(nemesis, oblivion, air, spinball, and rita), but I havent been able to truly tell I can only base the park off photos

However If you dont mind answering, uh...What plays in on the que tvs for OBLIVION(in detail please) cause Ive heard different things like its a news cast for people who are trapped underground and other stuff, So what does it really say?

Yes, I've been there. FParker no mention of Spinball?

Well, the park wasn't an SFMM, but no Disney either. The coasters that stick out in my mind are Air, Spinball, and Nemesis. Air is an amazing flyer in my opinion. You go over paths so many times, it's a great feeling. The Lye to Fly's are really weird but its a good weird. (If that made any sense.) Nemesis won my best invert vote. It's really cool themeing wize, but the layout of the ride as FParker said, isn't really all that intense. The feeling of a corkscrew as your first inversion on that is just, weird. Spinball is all about getting your car weighted right, or else the near vertical turn dosen't do much. It's still a great ride. After riding Oblivion, it's not all that big. Before all these rockets were out, it MIGHT have impressed me a little more, but it didn't really do much. The park is decent, as FParker said, trashed graffitti, but the rides to make up for it.

Just my little review.

I was there in 2002 before Spinball Whizzer.

If only they took better care of the grounds, that could be one hell of a spectacular park.
