so, uh, the Revolution...wtf?

yeah, I really don't know what to think about the Revolution's controller. I'm sure Nintendo will put some it to some good use, but I'm really worried about 3rd party support. my initial reaction was that Nintendo has lost their collective minds. I'm sure its a blast to play with, but I think its a little too weird for people.
I don't have a detonator; its on a timer.
A countdown timer?
No, a count-up timer. It goes from one to explode.

Turn it on its side Bob. Its the original nintendo controller, well sort of.

I'm happy to see such a simple controller, this means simpler games and controls. I'm not one of these PS & Xbox raised freaks who can use 20 button combinations and controls that require 3 buttons to pressed at once just to fire a gun. Heck I still play space invaders on my 2600 just for fun.

I might actually be buying my first nintendo system since the Super Famicon.
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.

Yeah, this controller is a little er...Nintendo ish in my opinion. I'd rather go normal with X360's and PS3's controllers. Man, I miss good ole Nintendo like Zelda Two and Super Mario world. Back then they weren't trying to be different and the games rocked. Can't say that today.

Well here is the key to X-Box's controller....

When you play games like Tekken just keep hitting buttons randomly (not having a clue as to what you are doing) and you will win EVERY time. It's so funny. I win all of the time and I don't even try :lol:

ihauntu, I totally get that its supposed to be a NES controller. and I knew it was going to be something like this since they said early on that it would have to be compatable with all of their consoles. my problem with it is that its so different from anything else out that. honestly, it reminds me of the super old-school controllers that had a number pad and a dial at the top (forget what system they were for). but I must say, I'm very glad that you find it appealing because I'm fearing for Nintendo's future because of this.

Here Here.......I concure...why did it all have to get so complicated. Remember Atari, a stick and a button. Simplicity rocks! Nintendo directionals and 2 buttons, Even Super Nintento still only had 6, I never really had to use the X and Y buttons for much,and you rarely used the extra 2 on top, none of those fancy button combinations just to drive, break and reverse in racing games.

maybe its just the games I play, but I don't run into many massive button combos. two control sticks seem almost necessary to move around. four face buttons and two triggers usually are enough to map functions to while not overwhelm. originally the shoulder buttons were created to move the "camera" in 3D games, but the second control stick seems to have taken over that function. they're now ususally used to fire weapons or are put to some other use in games where you don't fire a weapon. four face buttons give you a good amount of actions at the ready.

I can see how the extra two buttons (R2 and L2 on PlayStation and Black and White on XBox) may seem overwhelming, but when you consider they're rarely used, the layout shouldn't seem so bad.

on top of all that, games are supposed to be about skill. perhaps learning the button layout is part of that skill. the whole thing seems like a gimick to me. analogous to the Eye Toy instead of the PS2.

Yes it is nice to see a simple controller again. Though this seems a little to simple to some, it will be possible to "expand" the controller so there can be more buttons avalible(and I sure hope they do). In its current setup its definatly impossible to play Mortal Kombat or even a "Doom" type game. I sure hope this is only the begining of Nintendos "Revolutionary Controler" because i dont find it very impressive, and as much as I loved the old school nintendos simplicity and had fun playing it when i was young, I dont want to go back to it.
