Six Flags Astroworld closing after 2005 season.

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

Looks like SF isn't done selling off parks. The next one to go is Astroworld. I have a feeling they still aren't done dropping parks yet.

I'm not suprised by this move, and I was actually waiting for this to happen.

Hopefully some more get sold off.

I can't believe it. I actually enjoyed that park. My friend in Houston is going to be so sad about this. He actually just moved a couple of blocks from Astroworld this summer. This news sucks. :(

Why would you hope for more parks to get sold off....this park isn't going to another company. It's being destroyed which means it's one less amusement park for you or anybody else to visit.

Agreed Dave.

While it's good that SF is unloading some parks, I wish they could be sold to other amusement park companies to keep them going. Unfortunately that isn't the case here.

Hey Dave, let's pursuade SF to move SWAT to SFGAm. :)

Let's just have every park left get one ride and SFGAm could get a coaster. :D

Part of the reason why they are probably closing that park is due to parking. It has to do something with the stadium next to it. I think that's the park. :?

I wonder if this might mean the end of SFNO as well?

One would logicially think that given the disaster in the area, that SFNO might be next.

I'm glad that it's getting torn down for several reasons:

a) I would have almost certainly never visited this park. It seems like SFOT and SFFT are better run.

b) More resources (rides, etc.) can be put into other Six Flags parks, including Great America

c) An entire parkful of rides will be moved to other parks, including (hopefully) Great America

While there is the chance I would have visited if I had taken a coaster-related trip to Texas, I would rather see more resources put into Great America, which I will visit many times every year, rather than a park I'll visit just once or twice at most

Mr. "THE HELL HOLE IS CLOSING!!!! YEAH!" makes that statement then ridicules Twixmix for saying he is glad to see it go?

By making your original statement in all capital letters meaning you were shouting it, means you really don't care about the employees losing their jobs either.

I am very sad for the employees. However, in this article, it does say that many of the employees will be offered a job at another park. It is terrible, and I'm probably sure that most of them won't work at another SF park though.

For the ride factor, the only ride that looks good is that XLR-8. I've never been on it, so I don't know. This includes the flats too. Hey SFGAm could get another Power Dive. And no, I didn't really like Power Dive that much. Watch, SFGAm gets the SLC instead. :(

Its sad to hear a member of the family is leaving. Though I knew that this will happen to any of the low attended SF parks. SFAW will always be missed by enthusiasts, Houston GP, and Six Flags.
I don't know ALL the Facts!!!!!!
