Cedar Fair to purchase SFMM?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby SF Critic on August 31st, 2005, 11:27 am
Well since no one hasn't brought this up, I decided to.

The Los Angles Times believes that Cedar Fair may be interested in purchasing Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. A person familiar with the situation has said that purchasing the park would allow for more marking opportunities in Southern California.

Well if Cedar Fair could turn around that park then that would be great. It already has a great coaster lineup but there is still so much that needs to be done there....I'm all for them buying it though.

^Ha, ha. That's what they thought with Gaugea Lake. How could they buy that? If SF is putting in a new coaster, they aren't going to sell it right away.

I don't think SF would sell SFMM. It seems this year they've made improvments like frendliness, a good amount of coasters open daily, cleanliness, etc. SFMM is actually back in my top 10 theme parks. Cedar Fair would do wonders with it though, like adding new flats.

First of all it's Geauga Lake. Second of all you can't expect a company to completely turn around a park in one season. The public may be confused with the name change, and it will take time for Cedar Fair to build the park back up from the hole Six Flags left it in.

I dont know much about parks. but saying they WONT sell it becuase there just starting to build a new ride means nothing....Things change, they had planned and started building before synder made his second offer this summer. now they might have an opertunity to sell Magic Mountain and make some cash off it..... its no different then someone going to collage for teaching and then right before he gets his degree decide he wants to be a cop

Six Flags Magic Mountain is the chain's most marketed park. It's in all the commercials and such.

I don't see it leaving anytime soon.

well..at this point i dont think SF is going to sell off only one of their parks as the whole company is up for sale. They are challenging people to buy the entire company and turn it around......

also the obvious has been missed.

Knotts Berry Farm is not far from SFMM, CF knows now not to compete with itself in a market.

I don't see CF buying SFMM purely for the fact that they are competing for most roller coasters, and then CF would be competing with itself. It just doesn't seem right. Not to even mention, CF would try to compete with Disney (mainly Disneyland). Peanuts gang vs. Disney characters, get real.

Cedar Fair, L.P. .... more record breaking coasters than any other chain. That will make me cringe seeing that as their advertising campaign.

Six Flags Inc. is up for sale, not their individuals parks. Cedar Fair just wanted those 11 record breaking coasters at SFMM.

Well I guess the obvious was missed as well:
There is precedent for a limited acquisition. Last year, Cedar Fair paid $145 million for Six Flags of Ohio, located a few hours from Cedar Fair's flagship Cedar Point park in Sandusky.

From LA Times artical.

Hmm...so if they know not to compete with themselves, why did they buy SFWoA which is a few hours from CP?
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/

yeah

Geauga Lake is loosing money at an astounding rate and attendance has plummeted.

Cedar Fair learned their lesson. :)

Well, now I feel stupid. Oh well.

As for SFMM, I don't think SF will be selling it anytime soon, well, at least not till the auction is over then it is the decision of whom ever takes over. I doubt there going to anyhow seeing as SFMM is one of the best in SF.

I think, with a few exceptions of couse, over due time all SF parks and SF owned parks that are not from the Time Warner SF days, will eventually be sold off, if not by current SF, by whoever buys the company.

SFKK and SFA are the only real exceptions I can think of, maybe SFEG also, probably one or 2 others also.
