I was wondering how GAm would fit any other new coasters/rides in the park. There isnt a big chunk of land open and the only way I could see future coasters coming is if they opened up picnic grove alot or expand around the parking alot somehow or have to take other coasters out again.
I don't know if they can get more land or not, but it seems as if the park was willing to take out Whizzer last year. Perhaps the parking lot area near Go-Karts/Space Shuttle can be home to a flat ride, but maybe not a coaster. I always thought SFGAm was getting a water park, but I don't know if that has developed into anything.
Picnic Grove and the Wilderness Theatre would be where I would put a new coaster. If they went into the parking lot and also ripped out Space and the winners circle that would be another great spot. I am sick of SF ripping out coasters and good flat rides. Space is old and out dated and you can ride go carts anywhere.
Great America does not have a space problem. (SM)Cedar Point does not have a space problem. (TM):lol:But anyways, in a traditional sense like they've had for... not a long time, they are out of room. The only chunks of land that were really open after Eagle opened was where Southwest is now, and Iron Wolf's plot. However, the park's managers and designers are creative. Batman was really wedge in back in the early 90s. Same with Deja Vu. And for Vertical Velocity, they took an availble strip of land, and only had to knock down a lighthouse (a territory staple, though ) There is still plenty of room. The employee coridor down the middle of the park could have supports put in it, and a ride above it. Plus, how many midways have nothing over them? Almost all of them. Orleans Place is a prime piece of real estate for a coaster, as many have said, with Dive and Hanger out, only the burger stand is in the way of a good chunk of land. Plus, there is quite a bit of room in the area of Viper, Whizzer, and Pictorium. Don't worry about space, there is room to grow, just not out. Who wants to have to walk a mile to a new ride, anyways?
My 4 year plan:2004 New flat ride(s) where Power Dive and Cajun Cliffhanger were.2005 Coaster in the parking lot by SSA and go karts. 2006 Flat ride or nothing 2007 Ice Mountain Splash removed for coaster.
All SFGAm needs to do is take a trip down to Indiana Beach and they will find out first hand how coasters and flats can be put in with no open land to spare. To anyone that hasnt been to IB, you would be amazed on how many rides can fit into such a small footprint. The Picnic Grove and Wilderness theatre are used for private events so that option is out. However, they could have a coaster hover over the picnic area. They should just take out Ice Mountain Splash. It hardly ever runs. PGA did this when they installed Stealth.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
I don't see why Picnic Grove couldn't be an option. Its only used ocassionaly and the Wilderness Theater is rarely used ever. Only for band compititions.
Chitown, I agree! Indiana Beach is a really good example on how to make use of space u DON'T have. haha Hoosier Hurricane really does wind around things. I don't know if GAm could really do this with steel coasters. That may be a hazard. You have to fence off anywhere so close to the ride so that would take up space to walk. Maybe with a wooden one they could. The Demon sort of does this when you go over the railroad tracks but that's about the only place I can think of off the top of my head. And I agree with T_Biggs, I don't really think GAm is necessarily running OUT of space. It just seems like that from the inside of the park. When you're on the lift hills, take a look around on the outside. That park owns sooo much space for parking it isn't even funny. I've been there on some of the busiest days of the season and I've never seen those parking lots get filled. Only the main one by the gates and the one behind that. So maybe that isn't necessarily bought so much for parking. Maybe it was also for the possibility of expansion. Sometimes companies give you so much for the actual park and u can have so much for parking, so maybe they took what they could for parking thinking about using it for the park later on. I could be wrong... but to me, this makes sense.
Need a break from college homework.. 2004 season, come faster!!
How can they take out Ice Mountain Splash and fit in a coaster with Loggers Run right next to it? I guess it would be possible but a very tight squezze.
I was thinking the same thing about I.M. Splash. It seems as if Logger's Run and I.M. Splash go together as a package. And, Indiana Beach did work well with limited space with the wooden coasters but it might be somewhat of a challenge at SFGAm.
I bet you that GAm owns a lot of land but they said they didnt as an excuse just to take out Shockwave. I think they could build something next to RB in the parking lot. Speaking of that water park rumor I remember that one. It was said that they were going to build a water park across the highway. There is no use for a water park. It would hardly be open because its not hot all the time. They would have to spend a bit of money just to build a walkway over the highway so you could get to the water park. There are enough water rides in the park already. Yes I do know that CP has a water park and it isnt hot all the time there either. I think it was a waste of money for them to add a water park.
I agree with chiatrain. IMS and LR do seem like they are a package deal. It would seem weird if just one of them was there. I like IMP better than LR but LR operates a lot and IMS never does. IMS is just a lawn ornament as well as Deja Vu. Who thinks IMS should be changed back to Yankee Clipper.
Yea I agree too about the water park. That would kind of be pointless half the time and the state and government would tax them really bad for building anything over the highway. unless they decide to start building more theme park over there, i don't see them doing that anytime soon.

I agree that the Water Park is not a great idea. It might bring more out of town visitors, but most people think of SFGAm as a theme park with great coasters. The one at Santa's Village works fine because you can do everything at Santa's Village and the Water Park in the same day. And, when I first went to Ice Mountain Splash, I was expecting a new ride but realized it was Yankee Clipper. I guess corporate sponsorship is not just for ballparks and stadiums anymore.
Have you guys heard of Paramounts Great America? It was identical to SFGAm at one time which included Ice Mountain Splash and Loggers Run. PGA removed Yankee Clipper (Ice Mountain) and replaced it with the worlds first flying coaster, Stealth. Loggers Run is still there intertwining with Stealth. So , YES, it can be done at SFGAm as well. The waterpark is not a rumor and I dont see how its a waste. It would be a totally separate entity from the main park. There would be no access across the highway to connect the 2. SF went before the Gurnee board about 4 years ago proposing this. The village gave SF the go ahead to construct it. However, the project has never materialized probably due to money issues with SF.

Yeah i know of PGA. SFGAm and PGA were both called Marriots Great America until they were both bought out. Yes they were identical but for a short time.
well.....if or when they construct it....i dont think i'd go because there are already lots of water parks in Illinois...thats why its a waste... and i wouldnt be able to look across the highway and see all those rollercoasters and me not riding them...

It would be kind of hard to build a water park above the midway. They would have to place everything so carefully. I bet it would cost a lot of money too.
