Don't SF own the rights to Hanna-Barbara and Cartoon Network? The reason why I say that is because SFGAm kids area is called Camp Cartoon Network . Why aren't the costume characters at SF? Looney Tunes will always be the highlight of SF (they my favorite), but I will like to see Fred, Barney, Yogi, and Scooby Doo in other sections of the park. Lord knows SFA already have stuff animals of Scooby Doo. Plus I also see on random SF parks websites they have SpongeBob rides (ex. SFGadv).
Why is that only certains SF parks like only SFGAm only have camp cartoon network while the other parks have bugs bunny land and looney tunes section? Why does certain SF parks entertain spongebob? Why only certain SF just gets nothing from Hanna Barbara and Cartoon Network?
I know Paramount Parks and Universal also own the rights to these caracters too. Can anybody answer this?
SFGAm is a Excellent park. I went there in 1999. Great rides, Great atmosphere. I will talk about SFA later if you never been.
The park did have Hanna-Barbara characters in the long past, when CCN first opened. I recall the media day on WGN when the newscasters had their day in the small piece of territory. One of them was with Fred Flintstone. That's all I can think of. I don't know if they rode Spaceley's Sprocket Rockets.
I haven't seen the characters in ages. It would be good if they came back.
I think they should change the name to Boomerang Network Territory. What do you think?

Six Flags St Louis has Scooby Doo walking around outside of the Scooby Doo ride... I *heart* Scooby Doo. I really doo!! A grown 25 year old woman who still watches it and has tons of Scooby Doo stuff. What can I say... I'm a child at heart still
Yeah here at SFGAM we have the Mystery Machine ride in Cartoon Network kids and during Fright Fest we also have the haunted Scooby train (which I love) but we don't have Scooby Doo here walking around

who cares? Scooby Doo is located in Camp Cartoon Network at SFGAm, along with other cartoon characters. Also, in SFStL, the Scooby DOo ride there is different, it is a boat ride where you shoot aliens with guns that have lasers, great ride.

2nd of all... Danhockey the Scooby Doo ride in St Louis is awesome isn't it?? Except the last time we went on the 10th our guns were broken!! I was so mad Oh well I had been on it on the day before so I was still happy. Didn't you go that weekend also? We got our picture from it last year when we took my nephew.
Yea, I was there that weekend. I think my highest score on that ride was 627,300, give or take 500. I dont really remember, but yea that ride was great. Planea got the broken gun on the first time we went on it, it was the front left gun on one of the boats.

Back in the early-mid 1990's Time Warner Corp. owned the Six Flags chain of theme parks (7 I believe) At that time Time Warner owned the Hanna-Barbera properties AND of course the Looney Tunes characters.
In 1999, Premier Parks purchased the 7 Six Flags theme parks from Time Warner. A clause in the contract stipulated that Premier (now SF Inc.) could use the Looney Tunes and DC Comics characters on a 50(?) year copyright lease for use in a theme park setting. They would be able to use them as charatcters in the parks, as a basis for new ride names, etc.
The Hanna-Barbera characters were NOT included in this contract. While Premier could keep the current attractions with Hanna-Barbera characters, they were not allowed to expand these characters any more than the current attractions, and were not allowed to spread them to their other parks. Meaning that Great America will be able to keep the Camp Cartoon Network names and characters, as well as the roaming Scooby in the park, but won't be able to change the name to CAMP BOOMERANG or be able to add anything new character-wise other than DC Comics or Looney Tunes.
OK with that said, you said you have seen Hanna-Barbera properties at Universal and Paramount Parks? The contracts for those two park chains were signed when Yogi and Elroy and Scooby were still owned by their originators, Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera. LONG before Time Warner purchased them. And because its a legal contract, Time Warner couldn't break it. So thats why Hanna-Barbera are big at Paramount Parks.
As for Spongebob? Because Paramount owns only 5 domestic theme parks, and Six Flags owning more than 3 times that number, its not a big deal for Viacom (owner of Paramount Parks, as well as Nickelodeon) to have Spongebob at a SF park not close to one of their parks. And they make a little money from liscensing agreements so its good for them.
Thank you Greatmearica2003 for answering my questions. I knew the Premier Parks (now SFI) bought out Six Flags parks. In 1999 Adventure World in the Washington, DC area transformed into a SF park which was very exciting for this area.
Unfortunatly we have competitors. Paramounts Kings Dominion, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and Hershey Park. The reason why I brought up this topic is because some of prizes for the games are Scooby-Doo characters. When people come to our park and then go 2 PKD it get a bit confusing for guest. Why are they selling Scooby-Doo and PKD does Scooby-Doo?

Isn't SFI paying to keep Warner Bros. characters? I believe they are. Its just that Warner Bros. has the right to terminate the license agreements under circumstances. That will really screw up the parks. Renaming everything. Oh wait SF does has the right to Hanna-Barbera throughout Europe, Mexico, Latin, and S. America.

The reason they can give away Scooby-Doo characters as prizes is because merchandise is not really covered in the agreement. Only general use of a likeness of characters in any new ride or attraction is prohibited.
And I think that Time Warner can terminate that agreement, with proper legalities being followed. Six Flags would fight them in court though for breach of contract.

Yea Time Warner can terminate the agreement, but why would he? First of all he is still getting money out of the parks regardless because of movie rights to the rides and shows of Batman and Looney Tunes. Thats alot of money. Now Warner Bros. is really working with SFMM on the show Batman Begins (with the new movie debut to hit summer). Im impressed with Warner Bros. this year due to its new show and movies.

I just can't see Warner Bros characters leaving SF Parks. That will be very akward for me. I've always known for them to be with SF since I was a toddler. Renaming all them rides especially Gotham City, Looney Tunes section, etc. SF just pumps too much money in these parks. If Time Warner terminates the agreement that will be a big screw up.
