Windy Weather

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Does wind affect whether or not a ride will be open or closed? I am thinking of going to Great America today but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

The ride that would probably be closed today is D Vu because it is very sophisticated, and relies on speed, and timing. Wind could definitely mess it up. So, basically I would think that every other ride (beside water, Trailblaizer, and Condor) would be open today.

Wind will close alot of the coasters depending on the speed and the direction it is blowing, on mothersday when there was 50 mph winds the only coaster that was open the whole day was batman, v2 was open for a little but shut down due to rain, Iron Wolf was also open but shut down due to rain that day.

I ended up going. It was pretty crowded... Superman and Dejavu were closed. I waited 2 hours in line for V2 and about 1 1/2 hours for Batman.

i was also there today, and as I was re-entering the park, a random man saw we had 3 people in our group and gave us 3 fastpasses (12 rides total), as he "didnt want them to go to waste."

So grateful for that as the park was sooo crowded :)

A reputable person posted about a year ago that American Eagle cannot run if the winds are more than 50 MPH out of the west.

Superman spent all day and night parked half way up the lift because they realized it was to windy for it to complete the circuit.

I was there yesterday. Half of Hellevator was not working because of the wind.
I was suprised to see that King Chaos was working and also Orbit with the wind. They must close those rides only if the wind is blowing from a certain direction and speed

I was there too. The lines were long but i fast passed for Bull, V2, and Hellovater. The winds pretty much died down around 4 Pm but it was still really closed. Also Rajun Cajun was closed along with S:UF and Deja Vu.

Yes. If the wind is blowing out of a certain direction it will affect the rollercoasters that travel in that direction.

I was surprised that V2 was open because it looks like something that wouldn't be as stable in the wind as other rides.

Upon occasion I have seen it so windy that when the train went up the back spike for the second time the holding brakes did not kick in, but it was still running.
The new supports must hold it up pretty well, though I still see it shake from time to time

When I was about to ride V2 for the first time (on the 23rd) right when me and Drkstarboard where next to get on the train didn't hold on the back tower. It wasn't even that windy that day. :?
How much longer can I last until Opening Day! ARRRRGH!
