SfGam Fright Fest 10/22-10/23

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby DejaVu The Ride on October 24th, 2004, 4:02 pm
Note: This will be a long trip report, but I expect it to be very informative and it should contain some new info you have never heard before.) :D

Day: Friday October 22, 2004
Weather: Mild with some rain here and there.
Crowds: Light-Moderate
Time in park: 8pm-11:20 pm
Closed rides(for the day): Water rides, STT, Trailblazer, DejaVu, American Eagle Red, Condor

So my mom and I left Rockford around 6:30 and arrived to the park around 7:55. There were a lot of buses there for a Friday night. She dropped me off and I got in real quick and noticed it would be a little busier than I had expected. The monsters were out in full force in both Orleans Place and Mardi Gras. The werewolves were very realistic and were climbing all over the Rue Le Morgue queue line. The clowns were also great.

I went straight to Batman where I was greeted with a 10 minute line. It was running great as usual and I really felt the g's. I decided to check out Necropolis next and it looked awesome. They have this ferris wheel now and it seemed that all or most of the monsters were out in full force. I saw the zombie twins and I believe I briefly spoke with twinzombie.

When I got out, I noticed Ragin' Cajun was closed, but it just re-opened, so I got in the short 5 minute line. 4 cars were running and I got in one with 2 girls who I talked with in the short line and with this large man who I was paired up with. Let's just say that it was not the most comfortable ride ever.

I headed back to Iron Werewolf next and it was a 10 minute wait for the front row. While on the lift, I noticed that Shockwave was in even more pieces than before and that there were red and blue slide pieces sitting in the parking lot. There was at least a dozen straight pieces. The ride was awesome, by the way.

Next, I went to ride the Demon. It was running red and yellow trains, and the line was non-existant. I got to ride twice, both in row 6:1. Demon is awesome at night! Hellevator was next on the agenda and I waited 3-5 minutes to get on. I got the sound effects of the heart beat. I also noticed that there was more fog than last Fright Fest. It was great as it usually is.

At this time, I went to visit the trolls. That is where I met Ruk and most likely Beef(even though he claimed it wasn't him. The other troll told me it was him.) Nice(well sort of  )guys in general. :)

American Eagle was broken down earlier(They had the line cleared I think.) I now noticed that it had just reopened. It had a 10 minute wait though. It was running very good well and this is where it began to rain. Even though it was raining, Revolution was open, and it had about a 5 minute wait. I saw Dan there and said hey. The ride was running pretty decent. The rained continued hard, and Iron Werewolf was still open(Even though everyone seems to think that it closes in rain.) It was a walk-on for the front-row. The last 4 rows were completely empty. I decided to walk through Necropolis again. It was still rockin full of monsters.

Batman was again next and it had a short line in the station, but it ended up being 10 minutes because the operators had to clean-up because someone threw-up. It ended up being another great back-row ride. I also noticed that some people in the line saw the POV video for B: DK and thought that it was going to be a new ride.

V2 was next and it had a short 5 minute line for a ride toward the front of the train. It seemed to be launching faster than usual, but that could be my mis-perception. It was a fun ride as it usually is.

It was about 20 minutes until closing, so I had time for another ride. Raging Bull would be it and on the way I stopped in the Hurricane Harbor preview center. That is where I noticed that season pass prices were up and that the waterpark would be connected with the park. It was great news for me! :D

With about 5 minutes left, I got to Raging Bull and saw the TL for DejaVu. I asked him if DejaVu should be operating for Saturday. He said yes, but probably not in the morning. That was good news. I got in line and ended up waiting 15 minutes with 2 trains running. I got the 3rd to last ride of the night. Bull was running great and it was an awesome way to end the day!

Traffic wasn't that bad getting picked up, and my mom and I stayed at the Baymont so I could also go on Saturday while she shopped with my sister who came on Saturday.

_____________________________________________________________

Day: Saturday October 23, 2004(The most twisted amusement park day ever.)
Weather: Rainy and mild in the morning, then a little warm and nice in the afternoon, then chily and windy in the evening.
Crowds: Light in the morning, Mega busy in the afternoon and evening.
Time in park:9:25am-11:10pm
Closed Rides(for the day): Condor, All water rides, Trailblazer, STT

My mom dropped me off at the park at 8:55 to be greeted with about 2 dozen cars in the parking lot. I went straight to the metal detectors to wait and I eventually got in a line where no one was at. So I talked to the girl at the gate until the park opened and she was very nice. She wasn't expecting too many people to come, but I told her it should be busy after the rain.

At 9:25, the National Anthem played and the day started. I ran to Superman and was the second person there.(Could've been first, but there was hardly anyone behind me, so I didn't really have to run much. While waiting for it to open for the day, I talked to the ride op, some lady and her kids, and two people who I ended up hanging out with, Bill and Bryan. Some of the conversations were about the Whizzer and Shockwave, Fright Fest and the ladies opinion of a lack of monsters and decoration, and theme parks in general. It helped pass the time.

At 9:55, the op got the call to open the line and we were ready to go. I found out why they walk slow during the walk-ups, too. There have been many people who get hurt because the run when there are gaps at the end of the line and then trip and fall. We got first dispatch front row for the day. The ride was running great as it usually does. We tried to get to the bridge to make that run with the "bulls", but we just missed it and we went to Batman next. It was walk-on for the back row and it was just flying, even though it was so early in the day. Ragin' Cajun was closed because it was raining.(It had already tested though.)

We ran to V2 next and we only waited 2 trains for the last 2 rows. Again, the ride felt to be launching faster than usual. We went over to ride Iron Wolf, but it was closed due to mechanical issues, then to weather issues. American Eagle Blue was open(Not red) and we walked-on for the normal front 2 rows. I rode with a man who hadn't ridden a coaster in 15 years and he said he may get sick. :? I'm glad he didn't.

We went to Terror Twister next, and only had to wait 1 cycle. It was awesome and I'm glad they have a variety of new songs. :) Viper was next, and it only had a station wait of 10 minutes for row 1:3. It was running very well and there was tons of airtime to be had. We were getting hungry, so we went to the Bayou Grill. It had the best food! I had a Cajun Burger with steak fried and a yogurt desert thingy. It was very good and filling. While at the restaurant, John Curty and Larry Wine came to have their lunch too. I would've said hi, but I didn't want to bother them while they ate. While exiting, I noticed King Chaos was closed, but it had a new sign right in the middle of the little waterfall. It was very nice!

There was a line forming for Ragin' Cajun, so we joined it. We waited about 7 minutes for it to open, then another 3 to get on. It was running 4 cars and we had a very spinny ride. Monster Mash(aka East River Crawler) was nearby, so we took a spin. I sort of like the disco ball and music. At least they did something. The fog was not working though. I had an awesome ride after walking on to it.

At this time, we saw DejaVu testing, so we high-tailed over there to ride it. I noticed that it was sitting in the Emergency brakes. It must have been a mis-catch. Then they cycled once more and opened the ride. Bill and I made it on the 5th cycle in row 1b, and then the 6th cycle for Bryan.
I waited a total of 20 minutes or a little less. When we got off, the crowds began to pour in. We went to go and play some DDR for 20 minutes and then we got some free water. I noticed that AEB and AER were both open now, but they had a pretty long line, so we passed. The Scooby Doo train just arrived, so we hopped in line and got right on. It was better than Columbus Day, since the actors actually at least lip-sinked.

We stopped by to say hey to Brad and he was wondering if we had ridden the Demon yet.
We also went back to see the trolls again for the sacrifice, but they didn't do it at 3 like they said. Instead, the played jump rope with guests and tug-o-war among themselves. I guess it was alright, especially when the trolls laughed at people when they fell.(ie Bryan)

Once we got off, we went into Necropolis. Most of the monsters were out and about and we saw the two who were in the Institute for the Demented. They were pretty funny and scary at the same time. I looked into some of the cabins and they had some neat stuff in them. Since the Mausoleum of Terror had a very short line, we decided to go in for the $7.00. The house was very well done and it was actually pretty frightening. I felt like I could have gotten lost at any part of the house though. That was freaky in itself. Overall, I would give it a 9/10. :)

After we exited Necropolis, we went to eat at Angelos. I had a tasty pan pizza. Service was very quick. After an early dinner, we went over to ride Whirligig. We waited 8 minutes for a pretty decent family ride. It was now time to go and see LAFF for the 5:00 show. The theater was jammed pack and we sat somewhere in the middle. The show was top-notch and I enjoyed every character. I also liked the added use of pyro at the end. It is a 10/10 this year.(Well, it was a 10/10 last year too.)

When we exited, we went to ride Triple Play. We waited 10 minutes for a very fun ride. We saw the op who was working earlier at Superman. We wanted to ride Terror Twsiter again so we went over to SWT. The monsters were doing their little show and it was pretty neat. We went into the full queue for Terror Twister and ended up waiting 30 minutes until we heard the spiel for the ride being shut down. It couldn't be true, but we stayed in line and eventually got on.(The ride never was actually broken, I told the op about the spiel and he said that the connections must have been messed up due to all of the lights and fog and music. The ride was great again and it was funny right before the cycle when the op scared a girl like he was a monster.

It was now time for Bill and Bryan to leave, so I said bye and was now all alone. :( jk

I will now take a break to let you know why I haven't ridden a coaster since DejaVu opened around 1:00.
The wait times were horrible for every coaster!
(From around 5:00-9:00)
American Eagle- 2 sides open with 1 huge section of switchbacks filled with the line out of the entrance. Then only red side with the same situation.
Batman- Full Queue in the GCPW barricades and even out near Monster Mash.
Demon-Switchbacks near station full and the line was all the way out of the entrance.
DejaVu- Full queue with the line spilling into the midway.
Iron Wolf- Full queue.
Ragin' Cajun-Full queue with line spilling out.
Raging Bull-Full queue with line way out past the basketball games.
SSR- ???
S:UF- Full queue, with the line all the way past Rue Le Morgue.
V2- Full queue.
Viper- Full queue.
Whizzer- Full queue with line out of the entrance.

So now that I was by myself I took some pictures and walked around a bit. The Whizzer's line was a little shorter than earlier so I waited for a night ride on that. The line ended up being 40 minutes and it was worth it with 2 trains running. I even got to talk to some people in the line about coasters! :D

I saw the trolls again and they had a little girl doing push-ups for them. I started to laugh and they wanted me to do some. I said no and the little girl(Probably 5 years old) called me a sissy. Then the started to too and there was no way I was going to because my legs were really killing me at this point. :x I went to ride Hearsey Highway next because it had a prety short 10 minute wait for it. It was decorated very well compared to past years. :)

I decided to go through Necropolis again and it was very busy, but not busy enough for the usage of the Logger's Run queue line. Again the monsters were very active. The Mausoleum of Terror had a very long line at this point.

Now I decided I wanted to ride another coaster, so Iron Wolf was next. The line was only 40 minutes at this point and the crew was ok. I got to talk to this one guy and his kids in line. We talked about Cedar Point and SfGam's park management, etc. They were very nice. I rode toward the back for another tight () night ride.

I went through Necropolis for one last time and the living bushes were actually dancing and singing. I said "Long day?" and they said "Heck yeah." I also met the other twin zombie(Nightshade) and talked to him while he went to get ready for the Zombie Jamboree. He was very cool and it was odd talking to a zombie on the main midway.

It was now 10:00, so I went to check Raging Bull's line. It was shorter than earlier, so I went into line. It took about 35 minutes with 3 trains running(only 2 early in the day). It was full out to the entrance, but the line wrapped through the 2nd queue house(with only 3 or 4 switchbacks open) and it went right through the 1st queue house. I had an awesome back row night ride. Demon was the last ride of the night for me and it was actually a walk-on. I rode 6:1 for an awesome way to end the night!
The parking lot was still packed, but traffic to go home wasn't bad at all. Heres to a great weekend at SfGam! :D

A few random notes:
1. DejaVu's line closed just before 11 even though it's line was still an hour.
2. Dejavu ran great from 1-11.
3. Some lady asked a troll why they needed a body guard. She said the are so strong and mean that they don't need one.
4. The same lady wanted to touch the trolls and she was told no and she asked why.
5. Why wasn't there a sacrifice at 3?(trolls)
6. The wavepool is taking shape, but my main concern is that it will be too small for the crowds that it will generate.
7. Bill said he has hung out with Dan(Hockey) before.
8. Are Q-bots part of our future? :?:
9. Demon was closed for awhile after the yellow train was stopped at the MCBR for an unapparent reason.
10. From about 6-9, Revolution, King Chaos, River Rocker, and the Orbit were closed. After 9, Orbit reopened to a walk-on wait. Revolution, and King Chaos reopened with full queue's.
12. Blood River had water in it in the morning, then it was drained later.
13. Rue Le Morgue had a full queue.
14. The park looked absolutely amazing.
15. The fastlane sales had a long line even at 5:00.
16. Are misters in the future for queue lines? :?:
17. Lines were long, monsters were great.
18. Nice meeting some of the monsters. :D

Until Next time......(hopefull Halloween  )

Sacrifices were supposed to happen both days, but there were a number of factors against us. On Saturday, the stuffed animals were not prepared early, because of the rain. Our reports showed that it would rain all day, and we would be stuck acting under the awning. By the time the rain cleared, there was no opportunity to "prepare" our victims.

Sunday, we were no longer allowed into all of the same backstage areas that we used have access to. That cut off our supply of clean water for making our "blood". We *could* have gotten water one cup at time from our cafeteria, but instead opted for other troll activities instead.

We tried out Troll-Tac-Toe this weekend. That's tic-tac-toe on a large chalk drawing in the street, where YOU the guest get to stand around as our 'x's and 'o's. We also tricked people into tug-of-war with the tree the rope was tied to.

We scared a lot of guests and took a lot of pictures. We fished the lake (that water reeks btw).

We scared one girl so bad on Sunday, that she climbed through the bushes (restroom to southwest bridge) rather than pass by us again.

If any of you want pictures of the trolls, I recommend standing back and taking the action shots. We are posing a lot less, since that is when we seem to get hit the most. Standing still is detrimental to our health. Please, if you do intend to ask us to pose for pictures, get your camera out first, and get it turned on and the flash ready and get the whole thing over with quickly so we don't get body checked by some teenager while posing.

Thanks for stopping by...

All Day, every day.

We take breaks of 15 minutes, and lunches of either 30 or 45. If you saw just 3 trolls, then 2 were on break.

I was wondering why I didn't see you there...

So I was talking to NightShade before the parade on Saturday right? Also, Necropolis GD. I talked to the other Grave digger, thinking it was you. I felt pretty stupid after figuring that out. I also saw Tafaba, but he was too busy scaring people.

edit: Also Ruk, are you the one with the faded blue rag on your head? If so, remember when the other 4 trolls were playing jump rope? Then you were sitting on the park bench? I kept looking back at you trying to see what you were up to. I know I met you on Friday night, but I don't remember what rag you were wearing.

Yes, Ruk has the faded blue rag on the mask.

On the bench, I could have been:

a) Coloring a coloring book to give pictures to guests

b) Taking pictures with the "Troll-o-roid" camera

c) Playing poker or bar dice with trolls

d) making "sacrfice" signs

e) Waving and posing for pictures (read: giving my feet a rest)

f) staying out of trouble if the crowds are too packed

g) other.

Beef and I are assigned to take breaks at the same time. Miss one of us means miss the other.

We have had the same 5 trolls each day except for Columbus day.

Of course, I'd rather we had 8, like in years previous, or even 6 like last year.

OK then that explains it.. because you were gone so obviously Beef was gone too. I walked up to the 3 trolls that were there and asked which one was Beef.. they all looked at me and said "who wants to know" I told them and he said "I'll give Beef the message and they turned their backs to me and walked away. I almost got thin skin there for a second but then I remembered.. hey this is the trolls I'm talking to. I laughed and walked away.
