Condor Refurbishment

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby SFGAm Rules on September 12th, 2004, 5:44 pm
I am surprised that this has not been posted yet; if it has and I missed it just tell me.

Condor has been closed and has a sign saying that it is being refurbished. The cars have been removed. All I can think of for this is:

-New paint
-Better seat belts
-Fixing the "O" on top

What are your thoughts?

I think its a good idea. I think a longer cycle would be better though. And i think it will stay the same color.

Man, I haven't ridden Condor since 2002. I was hoping to ride it during one of my next visits, but, guess I'll have to wait til 2005. It's good that they're refurbishing it though.

How long have they been refurbishing one flat ride every year? I know last year was Triple Play but was there any before that?

ERC was refurbished 1-2 years before TP. I'm also guessing the park will refurbish FF since they began painting it sometime during this season..I don't really know for sure.

They were taking down safety signs and stuff today for rehab, the actual birds are behind it where Triple Plays we're the first half of this season.

Logger's Run also received a re-hab this past offseason.

Be glad they are doing this. These rides are old and need proper maintenance done to them so they can stick around awhile.

None of us can actually point out one thing we see refurbished on the ride besides the IMS spiel, I don't know what they're going to do with Condor but i'd expect it to be a bunch of stuff we won't be able to notice.

A longer cycle would be appreciative. That way, you can sink in a good thrill and enjoy the breathtaking view simultaneously. I have no idea if they're gonna completely re-do this ride like they did to Triple Play.

Brad.

Re-habbing something doesn't automatically mean you will notice a difference.

It's meant to preserve the ride so it lasts a long time. Triple play received a new paint job but I don't consider that part of the re-hab process for this ride. That was cosmetic. Replacing mechanical parts is something we most likely won't notice expect maybe a smoother ride (if that).

I bet the last time that ride saw some really good maintaince, it was on some fairground in Germany. I expect SFGAm to do what Morey's did to theirs about 2 years ago, the tear the ride down completely(take the tower apart and everything), rehab/condition/repaint the entire thing, fix up some of the electronics, replace most of the lights, then build the ride back up.

See pics:
http://www.angelfire.com/nj/wwbysea/WINTER/DC.html

I'm pretty sure Morey's is trailer mounted same as ours. Should be cool to see if it's as throough as that refurb job.

I'd like to see the center hub of the gondola on the ground, off the tower, lots of stuff in there, including the motors that lift the entire thing, as that is unique to the Huss Condor, normally on tower attractions the motor(s) are on the ground(or at the top of the tower) and everything is lifted lifted via a cable system, on Huss Condors, the only thing those cables run to is counterweights, actual power used to lift it is supplied by 2 rather large electric motors in that center unit..

However any refurbishement wont affect the short cycle time at all, that is entirely the programming, and SFGAm can change that any time they want, hopefully they will, but I kinda doubt it.

On another note, I hope Fiddlers Fling sees some work as well this off season, it's about time that saw some work done on it.

All of the boats were re-painted.

As you can see by comparing these two pics:

and

As far as Condor goes though, I just thought it looked weird when the ride wasn't lite up tonight. It will look even more odd if they take down the tower during the re-hab.

I didn't say it did, I said that Loggers didn't have a noticable difference, I have no idea what they're going to do with Condor, they'll probably take parts of it apart and clean off/replace them and paint or get new safety signs.

Well, if they mean removed for good, the sign at the entrance says being refurbished FOR THE 2005 SEASON.

There not going to take it down because nothing else will really fit there besides another flat, and it has a refurbishment sign.

Do you think that it will stay the same color though. I think they will keep it white unless they change the name too.

No, something tells me they are going to change the color to yellow. I just can't help but have that feeling...it will match V2, Cajun, Batman, the yellow arm of Triple Play and the newly painted yellow building across from Whizzer.

Soon the whole park will be yellow :).

Sorry, but they wouldn't take the cars out if it were for your last two points. It is most likely to replace mechanical parts, so it can stay running without becoming a maintenance/safety nightmare.

I really wouldn't be too shocked to see Coasterdude316's idea come true. They really seem to like that yellow paint this year! We're just lucky we didn't end up with a yellow Demon! :P

Well condors are white birds i think, so it should stay white.

^^^^^Thats the stupidest thing i've ever said, but i think that we need a blue ride int he park. So blue would be cool also.

What's next? They'll paint the cars purple?

Anyways, I wouldn't be suprised if we got a new spiel. Well, maybe I would, Triple Play never got one.

Before I could really ride coasters, I rode condor. But it had a longer, and seemingly faster, cycle. I want them to be refurbishing it to be able to go faster without spinning out of control. Although the spinning out of control thing would be fun to watch.

They're probably going to replace some berings and hydrolics, throw on some paint, and change a few lightbulbs.
What you don't understand you can make mean anything.

I bet the main thing done during this refurb will be to X-ray everything, and probably a coat of paint and new bearings, same as Triple Play basically, I'd expect.
