What If... (Giant Drop Topic)

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Jamesb58 on September 13th, 2004, 3:55 pm
Hey Everyone:

My friend tried to get this type of a topic going on the
general forum, then everything went "South", so I thought
I would try to "reinvent" the topic.

What if SFGAm was to announce that they would be changing
some of the cars on Giant Drop from sitting to Standing. What
would you all think?

As you probably know, Intamin AG has designed a Standing and
Standing Floorless Stunt Tower. And based on video I have seen,
it looks as though it would be a great ride.

Honestly, if SFGAm was to announce that they would be doing that, I
would flip. I would think that would be the most awesome thing. What
would you say?

That would probably never happen, but it would be awesome.

I'd think lame, still boring and pointless. As far as drop towers go, if they were to move Sky Treks entrance to the other side by Guest Services, take out Stargate/Go Karts, and build the Hollywood Tower Hotel there, my thaughts would be slightly different .

Well, while the stand up floorless looks like it'd be scarier than sit-down style, it really isn't. Acrophobia at SFOG felt no different than giant drop, and the 15 degree outward tilt really didn't do much for me.

And take it from me, those stand up floorless drop towers aren't too much fun for the guys out there, if you know what I mean  (kind of like when you leave the bicycle seat up too high on Iron Wolf).

I totally agree with ya "Mr. SFGAm" with the Floorless Standup. That would hurt. That's probably why only 2 parks ever bought the thing.
The only parks I know of that have it is in England and South Korea.

I have yet to go on Acrophobia. I've been to SFOG but I wouldn't
go on it, cause at the time I went, I had a heights problem. My first
time on GD has a great(Funny) story. If ya want to hear it, IM me.

But the idea of having at least a Standup Drop would be cool. A new
feeling of droping. But, we can only dream!

The current version of Acrophobia isnt as painful as it looks/sounds since it got new seats with wider seats and plentiful butt support. The seats it opened with sucked though, they were exactly identical to "seats" on Standup Coasters.

Also Standup cars can be added to Giant Drop if the park ever wants, the one at Drayton opened with 5 tracks but only 2 cars, and the other types were added on as time went on. Of course that wouldnt be free to switch them out.

I was thinking that it would hurt for a standup floorless, but if you think about it, on iron wolf when you sit on the bicycle seet or if your locked in too high, it doesnt really hurt unless you pants get on it weird, but if you were to get on a standup floorless drop ride you could adjust to the seat before it pulled you to the top. I think that the brakes might hurt though.

Has anyone here ridden it.

^If you mean Acrophobia, yes I've ridden it. I rode it this year, and like FParker said, the seats are kind of wide. Even though I never rode it before the seats were changed, you still feel it when you grab the brakes :?
