If Marriott still owned Great America...

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

If Maariot still owned the park, Demon would still have all that cool theming because marroit is a privatley owned company i think, if they were they could do whatever they wanted

SFGAm will still have alot of the original stuff. But it would be mostly a family park, not that SFGAm isnt, but it wouldnt have huge rides. Well maybe one that would be huge and get a whole bunch of publicity.

The majority of you that have posted responses to this topic were probably not even born when Marriott owned the park.

To the ones that said we wouldn't have the big coasters today if Marriott was running the show, have you not looked at Marriott's history on the Gurnee park?

Turn of the Century was considered one of the most intense coasters when it opened in 1976. When it was converted to the Demon, it had the most inversions on a coaster at the time (4).

Tidal Wave was the tallest steel coaster when it debuted (1978) and going backwards on a coaster was considered high tech thrills at the time.

Then Marriott debuted the worlds tallest and fastest woodie in the world with the American Eagle in 1981 and also made it a double tracked coaster.

I don't know about you guys, but Marriott was hip to the idea of world records and intense coasters in that era.

If Marriott owned the park today, he would be dishing out the latest and greatest in coaster thrills.

Actually what I was saying is that Marriott would of brought roller coasters and everytime they would bring it it would be huge but you act like SFGAm doesnt have huge coasters.

If it weren't for us, B&M would've never been as good as it is now. We really deserve some respect

^ I know because if you like watch shows on discovery channel about rollercoastes they never mention us. When they say BTR they say the first inverted coaster but they dont say from SFGAm.

I know we don't get any credit whatsoever, not even for Bull, the first hyper-twister rollercoaster ever. But Magic Mountain gets credit for having "one of the first inverted coasters in the world" BTR. Our Batman was #1!

I've also noticed that every other sf park in the chain gets more credit than GAm has ever had. Heck, I remember seeing Travel Channel specials on Elitch Gardens, World's of Adventure, and Wynadot Lake, but never any credit towards Great America.

It's not a bad thing, but in my opinion, Gam is in the top of the sf chain, you would think to get more publicity by advertising it on tv a bit more with a show, or at least giving credit to coasters that first appeared at GAm before any other park!

(ie: Batman at GAm 1st, not sfmm, Shockwave was first Arrow Mega Looper, not Viper (mm) or gasm (Gadv)

You'd think that chicago being a tourist spot there would be more publicity. Magic Mountain isn't as good as everyone makes it to be.

I think that Mariott would do about the same job that Six Flags Great America is doing. They have a lot of things themed. Maybe, not everything in the park is themed perfectly, but who cares. Old rides have to go sooner or later because people don't like them as they used to. Everytime a new ride comes, people flock to that ride, and other rides get less of a line then they did before.

Enthusiasts want new rides built every year, and the GP wouldn't mind something different once in awhile. Mariott seemed like a good place, but it's not the end all of the earth if we can't have them anymore.
