Worst Flat Anywhere?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby Ilovthevu' on August 21st, 2004, 9:42 am
I'm sure everyone has been on a flat that is just bad.

There are two bigs ones that I've been on. One is the round-up and I call it the "Grease ride" because it was seen in the movie. The problem I have with it is that the padding is too short, and my head starts to hurt really bad.

The other one is Breakdance as I was on it at SFKK. If you are breve enough to take a ride on that, you could go on any coaster without fear. It throws you all over the place, and the ride is pretty stupid even just to look at it.

SF-Huss, hmmm? Who would have figured?

Nevermind the last two statements, but what is the worst flat or flats you've ever been on anywhere?

I don't really like big easy balloons just because it takes longer for the operator to get the riders strapped in than the ride itself.
I want the sfgam survivor to be held every July and August.

HTFM needs some serious work to the cars. The padding is HORRIBLE, and the rattle of the chains that hold the safety pins bothers me for some reason (it sounds like sand is shaking somewhere inside the cars or something). The second would have to be SSA, just due to the lack of new theming. Otherwise, I really like just about all flats.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I just don't trust the safety standards of Carnival Rides.

Breakdance rocks. I wish SFGAm had a version of this ride.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I actually know what you are talking about, especially "sand" in the cars. They should really move that ride, and/or get a new one. It's a bad location, and it's quite disappointing to the other Scramblers out there.

And for the Breakdance, I'll use Timmy179's line. Meh!

Home Town Fun Machine is older than the park. The Eli Bridge Company isn't even around anymore.

I don't trust them either. But I still ride them. It's strange how the spinning carnival rides make me throw up.

The Huss Flyaway is bad. You are smashed in there so tight so you can lay down. I hate them and they hurt really bad.

I also agree with the fact that GAm should invest in a new scrambler, or refurbish the one they have. Actually, I like option 2 better, just becuase the ride is a classic, and most older amusements parks have the Eli Bridge scramblers.

:?: Are you sure they aren't around anymore? They are located 15 min from me over in Jacksonville. Every time a plant of some type closes in that town, there is a major story about in the news. I don't recall ever seeing a story about Eli closing, and Lee Sullivan from Eli Bridge still serves on the Carnival & Amusement Safety Board for IL Dept. of Labor.

EDIT: Forgot to add worst flat - Hometown Fun Machine, it doesn't do the scrambler family justice. Would be nice if SFGAM would replace it with a real scrambler or adjust the current setting. Either that or put a cycloid in its place.

They still have a website at least. When certain rides close early and during Fright Fest, it goes to show you that these are the least popular in the park. I think I can add Trailblaizer to that list.

Isn't Fiddler's Fling considered a "Scrambler on Steroids"? We have a family scrambler and a thriller scrambler. And anyways I think if we adjusted it any higher all the parts would fly off into the lake and queue line...

Very true. The ride seems like it can barely handle the speed it runs at now, let alone go faster.
Finally Coaster Season!!

You know I thought that exact thing "Scrambler on Steroids" after riding Fidler's Fling for the first time Sunday. Then I started to think a little more about it, and Fidler's Fling isn't like a Scrambler.

On a Scrambler type ride, you cross almost the entire length of the diameter of the rides overall circle between whips. This generates a strong lateral force followed by almost no force at all as you cross the center then another strong lateral. I have even been on one that felt very close to weightless airtime as you crossed the center.

On Fiddler's Fling you experience constant lateral force and do not cross the center of the circle. Instead you make short arc trips around the perimeter of the circle. You do get a good whip at the edge of the circle, but you don't have the feeling of crossing the center like a scrambler does.

Fiddler's is an awesome ride with suprising speed, but it does not compare to a good Scrambler ride.

If you do like Scramblers, I suggest you look for Super Scramblers , Sizzlers, Super Sizzlers, and if you can find one, a cycloid to ride.

Another reason I don't like HTFM - nothing that weak should ever be allowed to have Packer colors :D

Or it means the park is under staffed and can't run everything to the maxium like the Summertime.

He means that they keep the least popular rides closed.(For whatever reason.)
