To let construction trucks in, and not anybody else. Military opertions or O'hare airport have certain booths to let people that are affliated with each to come in ONLY.

Do you guys think they will close the Washington St. exit for good when the Waterpark is up? I really hope not because traffic can get crazy going onto Grand Ave.

I think that entrance will be for the water park. Just my opinion.
No matter how hard it is...Never EVER give up. The real failure is those who dont try.
In the Really old Sixties Batman show, Robin Would always make stupid comments like that. I wouldn't be surprised if i was watching "TV Land" one night and I heard him say "Holy We-Already-Know-That Batman!"
Edit: You know, I really wouldn't be surprised if The Old Eagle Entrance became the main entrance for the waterpark. I mean, it will all be one parking lot but People starting the day in the waterpark go under eagle and people going to the park go to the Grand entrance.
I think it would be cool. (And possible) for there to be three different tickets. One for Just Waterpark, one for just GAm, and then some kind of "Deluxe" ticket for both. Each costing a different amount of money. Meaning that there would have to be a second gate for the waterpark. So it probably won't happen but that would be cool. Hey...You never know...At least until construction gets going and they make an announcement...

At SFMM and SFGAdv, do they have two separate entrances and two different lots to get in (one for the waterpark, and one for the regular park)? They would probably do the same thing over here.
Someone said that they closed the side entrance because of 911. Why? Honestly, if someone wanted to ram the Am E (I would guess that would be the only reason), they probably could now. So, that doesn't make sense.
However what makes sense is that they want to use less employees, and they want people to see there sign when you come in like WDW parks. I personally think that they will continue to not open the other side and keep it as one big lot.

They probably have the sign and a booth setup so that constructions Traffic can enter only. Everyone else will need to enter from Grand Ave. Probably in the next week or two we will not be able to exit from Washington street anymore because, I am sure that a fence will be built soon around the part of the parking lot where there going to begin construction.
As, for fishing for Memorial Day Opening. It will be done they have over 9 months to do it. That is plenty of time. Also, we don’t really know if and when the construction has started. Just because we do not see them digging the parking lot does not mean that they have not been working on it. They may have run water lines last winter when the park was closed. I know they had tons of dumpsters around the SSA area, so who knows when construction started.
I just had a thought. What if they aren't taking any of the regular park out. What if they are putting the water park out there about 1000 feet away from american eagle's helix to the north?
I want the sfgam survivor to be held every July and August.
Please explain what you mean in a better way. So, where do you think it will be.
DejaVu The Ride, that's all the comments you have for three days?:? Considering that most pages have 40 posts, you missed 120 posts.

Most of those posts were pointless or repetitive. The waterpark hasn't offically been announced with specifics yet, and people are already saying things that can't be confirmed in any way, and that it won't be ready til September.
I don't think that would be good idea. Not many people would want to walk that far. On top of that, you would probably have to face the waterpark the other way. It wouldn't look right with the parking spaces facing one way (towards the regular park), and you would have to walk some distance if you were parked by SUF. The overflow lot is bad enough in walking distance.

Sfgamer. Why would they move the go-karts and remove a "Major Attraction" if they weren't going to put the park there? You know, the gate to the waterpark from the main park could be where Winner's circle was. Maybe that's why they are moving it.

I misinterpretted it as a toll booth when I was reading and I thought "why would they put in a new toll booth?".
They closed the Washington St. entrance because of 9/11, but it isn't sure why exactly. Not only could it be to protect American Eagle, but also, when you think about it, most of the time there was only one person manning the Washington St. entrance (when it was open). I know that I wouldn't want to be by myself in a parking lot with no other workers around. (One person, lots of cash, you get the point)
We got a promotional flyer from Crane a few weeks ago, stating how he's doing an excellent job at improving roads in Lake County. On the list of 4 was widening Washington St. from Rte. 21 to Cemetary Road to alleviate traffic out of Great America. It was around $1 million. Oh well.
Whoa this topic is crazy. I think we all need to calm down and just wait until some parts show up or they start building. I think 11 pages of speculation is a bit overkill.

I would highly doubt that that entrance will ever be dedicated for the waterpark. I can easily see access to Washington St. be removed by the waterpark's footprint, or they could try to preserve it in some form to keep as a secondary access point to the entire property to aid in traffic flow.
However, IT WOULD NEVER be used as a dedicated entrance/exit for any one part of the property because of the need to have quick, easy, interstate access and the need to consolidate parking booth/fees operation. I don't see Grand Ave. enduring a larger burden due to a waterpark. There are busy Saturdays and their are mild weekdays, that won't change as a constant directly because of a waterpark; the peek times of traffic will probably be just a little worse. Grand Ave. seems sufficient in dealing with heavy traffic.
