Cable Problems Shut Down Roller Coaster, Again
Top Thrill Dragster Closed For 11 Hours

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The fastest, tallest and the most popular roller coaster at Cedar Point was shut down again this weekend.
The Top Thrill Dragster was closed for about 11 hours for repairs Saturday, NewsChannel5 reported.
Officials said a launch cable detached from a car. No one was injured.
The Sandusky amusement park told NewsChannel5 that the cables were replaced, test runs were conducted successfully and the ride reopened for about an hour before the park closed last night.
They also said the ride has been working properly all day Sunday.
This is the third time in about two months that the ride has been shut down.

INTAMIN...... RUN!!!
On a serious not. TTD is becoming a maintenance nightmare, at two years, this thing should be running like a chevy, but its not. I would go as far as saying TTD may eventually more of a pain in the side of cedar fair than déjà vu was a pain to SF. I mean, This is a ride that draws people to Cedar Point. I'm Not saying that the other coasters don't, but this is the X-Factor. I.E. I was trying to talk my family into going to Cp, as I described what its all about.. and how it has millennium force, one of the more proclaimed coasters in the world, people just said.. Meh We have Great America. But then as soon as i described that you could go 120 mph, 420 ft. high, # of my family members were instantly convinced, If we were to make that trip, and TTD wasnt open, that would leave one hell of a bitter taste in my familys mouth now wouldnt it. In conclusion, Intamin, Or Cedar Fair, whoever is in control of this ride (im sure intamin turned it over already) needs to get it together... Around the world and back
The problems seem to be getting more and more as the month roll on, and the last incident in July injured some people while on the ride. This isnt great news for the Jewel of CP Top Thrill Dragster.

This is a case of media getting their hands on a little piece of information that means NOTHING and making it a big news story, that's so pathetic it's not even funny like 2 Face was.
Yeah that 2 Face story was ridiculous. Cables break . . . things happen to coasters. I think that TTD is running pretty well for what that thing does. It's the first coaster over 400 feet and rockets coasters out at 120 mph once a minute for over 12 hours - give it a break. Storm Runner has had a few problems, but it's no where near the size of TTD. It's a fun experience but once you've been on it a handful of times you do begin to realize it is still L:TH:B no matter how you look at it. As for Millennium Force - that coaster is still 310 feet! That drop is incredible. I don't know how you can look at that coaster and just go 'meh'. If you've been on TTD before and it's down, it's not that big of a deal . . . however if you are yet to experience it, then people get mad. It's hard to say, but if you haven't been on it, you aren't missing THAT much.
What was the Two-Face story? If the cable has snapped twice already, don't you think that they inspect it a little more than just one day?
The two face story was when it was stuck on the tower for an hour or so, oohhhh ahhhh they're in such danger the news came and did a big story on it.
Seriously, like Coasterzak said, it isnt that much, it really is nothing special. The only reason it is good is because of the speed, there is no air time, and true dropping sensation, and the ride is over before you know it. But if you are among the lucky people who have had a rollback, it is a different story, then the ride is cool because going backwards straight down at 100 mph is awesome. That ride is not even among the top ten coasters for me, it is only number 15 because of the rollback.
Also this is not a huge event, no one got hurt, the ride is fine, and it was only down for 11 hrs. The news report on the stupidest things sometimes. Universal Orlando Mechanical Engineer

How much more time will it take until TTD starts running like a "chevy" as Timmy said? I mean come on, its second season is almost over and the cable just snapped. I know it's not that big of a deal but, shouldn't they have things like this fixed by now?

The cable is going to keep on snapping until they find a better solution. The problem is not going to go away.

Maybe 420 feet, 120 mph is the limit.

Ah I got a ride on Dragster yesterday. It went up and down in the morning but ran awesome at night. The cable isn't what seems to be troubling them so much, it seems to be the hydraulic roll back brakes because they are always working on those on the launch track.
^That's a scary thought. Think about getting a roll back and "Whoosh" right through the station.

No you are right it won't launch if those brakes aren't retracking properly and that is why I believe it's down so much. There are a lot of brakes!
Because Cedar Point got a coaster in 2003, and most parks get a new coaster every two years, do you think they are getting anything next year.
Most parks get a coaster every two years? Magic Kingdom is the most attended park in the world and last coaster was a little junior coaster in 1996, and the last major coaster was in 1980.
Well it's not true for every park - but most thrill parks. I know what you were trying to say sixflagsguy. There is definitely some hush hush speculation going on at the park.
