the land across I-94 has been sold! It was sold a long time ago! GET OVER IT! READ THE TOPIC!...Breathe Binks Breathe... Okay...
As for the name "Hurricane Harbor" While it does sound a little like "Yankee Harbor" It may work. It could be a Hawaiian Theme. That's America. Did you ever think of that?
I have a question. Right now i'm listening to the call. They mentioned an addition to "The San Antonio Park" Being SFFT. What addition? Was i the only one not told about this? Because i'm in the dark.
I Just thought of something else. All of you who are yelling about themeing...Mardi Gras! What does that have to do with america! It is a Catholic holiday for those who forgot! Mardi Gras or "Fat Tuesday" is the day before Lent begins (Lent is the 40 days 'til Easter) Since you are supposed to fast during lent, you are supposed to indulge on this day...Henc the name "Fat". It however has become a screwed up and commercialized Holiday...Much like Haloween, but i won't get into that.
[quote="LaTiNoObSeSeDSFGAm"]if you do some information on Mardi Gras it is a historic holiday that affects America BIG time.quote]
Actaully that's the contrary to what I said. yeah, Mardi Gras is mostly celebrated in America but beyond that. Unless you care to share all that "Information you did" Then i think that Mardi Gras Has nothing to do with america. Anyway the point of my post was they should theme the waterpark (Which i can't wait for) to hawaii...that's part of America. Whether they do or don't is not up to me...it's just my opinoin.

Interesting thread -- I'm surprised that no one has pointed out some things about the expansion yet...
As someone did point out, Stingray at Noah's Ark is said to have cost $1 million. That was one slide, no infastructure. We're talking about pouring tons of concrete or asphault, erecting buildings for changing rooms, lockers and so on and moving existing attractions, buildings or parking lots elsewhere. After all of that is done, how far will $35 million go?
I would make a strong guess that the park will be included with your admission price. The Dell's has three major outdoor waterparks not too far away. If people are faced with paying a seperate admission to go to a lesser SF Water Park instead of driving two to four times as long to go to one of the premier water parks in the country, a lot of people will not change plans to head to SF. If it is included, it attracts families and even multi-day visits. That is what Six Flag's current goal is, and they seem to be heading there.
If you don't think that this thing will be open next year, you have another thing coming. And for anyone that thinks that you can't pour cement in below freezing weather, you're dead wrong. In fact, it may be better for curing it.
A lot of the park is going to be devoted to things that can handle a large capacity. I would expect a huge wave pool and large lazy river at the very least. For the amount of space this thing should take, I am going to be really interested to see where they put it. I have my hunches...
As for the people who think that the Mardi Gras section isn't themed to fit the "America" theming of the park have apparently never heard of New Orleans or what it is known for... I would suggest taking a trip to http://www.mardigras.com and noting what is there. Six Flags most certainly didn't make that up. The "commercialization" of Mardi Gras that you claim was solely propegated by the city of New Orleans and dates back well over 100 years. The theming fits the park *perfectly*.
As for the theming of the waterpark, I would expect it would be a Hurricane Harbor because as many have noted, it is the Six Flags main water park name and is therefore recognizable. If you love the water park at Great America and head to St. Louis and hear that they have a Hurricane Harbor too, it would make you more likely to want to visit it.
I love how everyone credits Tim Black for everything that is going on within the park. I don't know, but especially with the decision to upgrade Orlean's Place, I think that probably happened before Mr. Black took over the helm of the park. To give him full credit for everything that has happened in Great America is a slap in the face to Jim Wintrode, who managed the park for much, much longer.
And lastly, if anyone is disappointed in this announcement, you need to have your head checked. This might not be the new super-duper-looper coaster that you wanted or whatever, but this paves the way for more future attraction expendatures. If the waterpark increases attendance greatly this year, expect there to be a new addition to both the waterpark and the regular park next year. Six Flags understands that Great America and Great Adventure are serving two of their three largest markets and have the most potential for profit. It's great to see that Six Flags decided to invest about 50% of their expendatures this year into these two parks, and the future of Six Flags continues to look much, much brighter than it did at this time next year.

This will be a major addition. $35,000,000 will go a long way for this addition. They're going to put a lot of effort out for the park. This has to be the biggest announcement of the year in the amusement business(Next to the SfWoa sale.), no matter how tall or fast Great Adventure's Rocket will be.

Well Hurricane Harbor could work if they theme it to a Hurricane since America does get Hurricanes. I would much rather see an original America theme that flows with park just like all the other themes in SFGAm.
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/

I'm not saying that GAm won't be able to handle this but....anything involved with water automatically becomes a huge safety issue. Of course they will hire lifeguards and what not. But I think that water activities have to be taken more seriously than anything else.

OMG!!! Theres so many waterparks in the U.S. and for some god awefull reason you think that great america wont be able to operate one? Six flags allready has about a million and one aterparks in the U.S. And it isnt like 50 percent of the GP over 10 cant swim or something. Theres hardly ever waterpark accidents.
Deja Vu, no matter how you look at it, $35 million is $35 million. It's both a lot of money, and not a lot of money depending on how it is spent. If Six Flags, Inc. decides to invest in creating a good infastructure for the water park, I don't expect it to be HUGE, at least not right away. If they do not, they are just going to be spending a lot more money along the way to repair their infastructure. Concrete costs a lot more than asphault, but it would be MUCH better from a guest standpoint and would last twice as long.
The theming in a waterpark goes a long way to creating a truly memorable experience, and Six Flags has been good about creating well-themed waterparks. Theming is expensive though, and will deplete what they can do elsewhere.
I think that we can all safely say that none of us have ever spent $35 million on a water park, so whatever we're doing is just guessing... but the infastructure will cost a lot.
And a water park, just like an amusement park would have insurance so that if they do get sold, it is the insurance company that is paying for it. That policy costs a lot though, but it is already factored in I'm sure.
Yeah i forgot about insurance for accidents. One little question also, will you have to be wearing a suit to go to the waterpark or not cause i would only go to the waterpark if it was really hot out.
You have to wear "proper swim attire" inside the waterpark, and when you go back to the main park you have to adhere to park rules. In other words don't be expecting to see to many small bikinis riding Raging Bull.
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.
I would think they wouldn't let you into the rides with jeanshorts on or Khacki cargo's or something like that. If your like me and wear athletic shorts everyday of your life they probably wouldn't care/couldn't tell the difference.
Honestly I havn't owned a swimsuit in two years, I always just wear athletic shorts...

Yes, I believe you would have to wear a swimsuit. They most likely will have lockers were you can put your regular clothes.
This is a smallest of possibilities, but could this waterpark be next to SUF? The noise from water rides wouldn't be as nuts as a rollercoaster. Couldn't they build a couple slides over the lake?
The only other possibility besides the front parking lot would be near Shockwave. The only thing that they couldn't do is charge people extra for it because it would be connected to the regular park.
I always wondered, where does that road next to SUF go? So, if anyone knows, can you tell me? When Shockwave was there, they didn't have it.
