Great America trip 8/10

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby katydid on August 11th, 2004, 10:23 am
We arrived at the park about 5 till 10 and I was pleasently surprized to find no long lines of traffic leading to the park or to pay for parking. We got a close spot and headed to the front gate. When we got out of the car I was surprised at how cold it was. Unfortunantly I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts and was freezing cold. The sky was overcast and it looked like it could pour down rain any second. Instead of this being a bad thing it turned out to make the trip a lot more enjoyable since it kept the crowds away. We walked up to the gate waited about 3 min and walked in. I made a bathroom stop and was even more surprised to see that I didnt even have to wait to use the bathroom ( being a woman this is a very rare thing). So far I was thinking this is gonna be a good day at the park. We headed over to Viper and walked right into the station, had a 2 train wait and we were off. Viper is a great way to start the day off right and it didnt dissapoint. After that we walked past whizzer and I finally got my first ride on it after years of skipping it. We waited about 10 min. I was pleasently surprised it was a very fun and unique ride. After that we headed over to Demon which also had practically no line and rode the front row. Its a good ride but a little rough. I looked at my watch and realized we had already ridden 3 coasters in under an hour. After Demon we stopped and grabbed something to eat and headed over toward American Eagle. We all decided that we didnt feel like going backward after just eating so we rode the red train. We walked all the way up to the station and waited for about 5 min. Another great ride on the eagle. After that we walked around the park and nobody was in the mood for V2 or ragin cagin. We came upon Iron Wolf and waited about 15 min. I havent been on IW for about 4 yrs or so and it was defintantly getting rough, got my head beaten up but I have experienced worse. After that we walked over to batman which had the longest wait of the day a whole 45 min. I have to say I really like the new colors. After a very short ride on batman we decided to walk around a little bit so I could see straight again :) . After batman we were getting hungry again so we got something to eat and sat around for about 45 min just hanging out. Deja vu was running the whole day but nobody I was with wanted to ride and I didnt feel like waiting an hour by myself so I guess I'll have to wait till next time. After we ate we walked around for awhile and decided to ride raging bull. They were only using one queue house and had about 3 switchbacks roped off so we only had to wait 30 min for Raging Bull which was awsome. They were running all three trains which was great and made the lines constantly move. We got on and had a great ride of course. Two of my friends were getting their first ride on it so it was fun to hear them screaming like babies during the first drop. After Raging bull we decided to take it easy for a while and headed toward the front of the park to try the Star Gate 3000 sim they had. For whatever reason they only have half the sim theater filled which I didnt understand. If they had the whole thing open the wait wouldve been about 5 min, unfortunantly we waited about 30 min for a very bad sim that was boring. My head was starting to hurt so our group split up and a couple of the guys decided to do go-carts while the rest of us went to watch the Imax film. The best part about the I max theater is its dark and I got a nice little nap in. Oh yeah the picture was pretty cool too. When we came out of the theater my friends wanted to try the little footie wootise things they have. So we waited about 5 min so everyone could have their feet vibrated lol. I have to admit though after using it you cant feel your feet and you feel like your walking on air. After that little rest time it was back to Viper for another ride. The lines were getting longer but we only waited for about 20 min for the back car, which is a lot more intense and fun. After Viper we walked around and found ourselves by American Eagle so we decided to take another ride. The lines had become a little longer but even with a technical problem they had we still only waited about 20 min. We decided to do the red again and this time I sat in the back. American Eagle is defintently a coaster that should be ridden toward the front. It was increadibly rough and jarring. It felt like the car was being picked up and slammed into the track. After that we were all ready to go and it was only 6:30. I wanted to finish up my day with another ride on raging bull which at this time had an even shorter wait. We went through the queue got on the ride and were off in 20 min :D . Thats the shortest I have ever had to wait for in my opinion the best ride in the park. We made our way around the park and decided to skip Superman we were all freezing cold so we left around 7 and headed over to steak n shake for dinner before we left. If I could change one thing it would be me bringing a sweatshirt. Other than that it was a great day. We had a good time and got a lot of rides in.

How long did SUF and D Vu look? Also, was KC still open or not? With BTR being 45 minutes, that seems like the park was crowded enough. I don't think it was crazy crowded though from your tr.

It sounds like crowds have slowed down a tad. Just make sure you guys check the weather ahead of time because it could make or break your trip comfort wise.

Superman's line was right at the part where you walk into the queue. Im not sure if they had all the switchbacks open or not. I just didnt really feel like riding it when I was there, not because the line was long. Deja Vu's line was not too bad either. When I saw it there were no people standing outside the queue area so Im guessing the wait was about an hour. Im not sure if they were using all the switchbacks or not. None of the rides I went to were using full queues except batman. KC was working when I was there. The crowds were moderate, the park wasnt empty, but it wasnt anywhere near crowded. I just messed up with wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I live about 2 1/2 hrs away and when we left it was sunny and warm and when we got there I realized it wasnt just cloudy it was cloudy and cold. Anyways we still had a great time.

Here is my tr for the day:

I arrived at the park just a few minutes after it opened, and went straight for raging bull. The line took only a few minutes because they were running three trains. After that I went to Giant drop for a walk on. Then I went to viper for a ride, there was no wait outside the station, and the station wasn’t very full.
After viper I saw déjà vu running so I went over there (does anyone know why they have those light blue splotches all over the supports?) It took about 50 minutes to wait for row 1B. Then I went and bought a fast lane. I then used the fast lane for Superman front row. Then I went to Iron wolf and rode back row. After that I rode batman front row with fast lane. I then got in line for V2 and only waited a few minutes and then it broke down, so I left that line.
I then went over to demon, but the line was too long for me, so I rode raging bull front row, which was a 30 minute wait. Next I decided to wait for demon, but after waiting just a minute or two I saw the train stuck on the lift hill, and then the ride ops in the station telling the people in the train in the station to get out. I left that line and then I walked to American eagle backwards and waited like 10 to 15 minutes for that. Then I did Iron wolf front row. That ride has to get a new system for the station, because the front row line always blocks the other line and people don’t realize it. If they had the line on the right and fast lane on the left that would work better.
After that I waited an hour for my first time on ragin Cajun. That line moves so incredibly slow, and is so boring I don’t think I will ever ride it again. It is one thing if the line is long and moves fast, but that line is just long and slow. The sign said 30 minutes for cajun when full, but I knew it was an hour going into it, but a lot of people didn’t and thought it was going to be half an hour. So they were disappointed. I think that they should start the spinning earlier on in the ride. Also, when I was getting in the car and I still had one foot out of the car lifting it up to put it in the car the ride op started the car through the station. This wasn’t a big problem, but I think that it could be if they continue doing that. They need a new loading system. Also, there were two cars on the maintenance track, why don’t they use those?
After that I waited for S:UF, then I went to raging bull for the last ride of the day at around 6:45. After that I wanted to ride demon, but from the top of raging bull I could see a long line for demon, and they were still sending trains through empty, does anyone know more about what was wrong with demon?
Overall a great day, the crowds weren’t very bad at all. If anyone saw me I was wearing a good, better, best roller coaster shirt.

Totals:
Viper: 1 ride
Giant drop: 1 ride
Raging bull: 3 rides, one front row
déjà vu : 1 ride row 1b
Iron wolf: 2 rides, one back row, one front row
Batman: 1 ride front row
Ragin Cajun: 1 ride front row
King chaos: 1 ride
S:UF: 2 rides, 1 front row

S:uf took like an hour the second time to answer your question, and the park wasn't as crowded as it was last week according to peoples trip reports.

To me the park wasn't that cold at all, i was actually thinking of doing a water ride at one point or another.

I got 3 inversion on king choas. I also got on the second train of the day for dejavu in the back row. The only other highlights of the day were eagle 5 times in a row, giant drop 8. I also got on batman twice but it had a long wait.

Also, if you are trying to save money they give out free lemon juice at aunt martha's chicken. So if you get free water, free lemon juice, and free sugar you can make lemonade. I used 8 lemon packets, and 10 sugars.

You have 3 seconds to enter the car once the other riders exit it, then it starts to move.

And those cars on the transfer were probably not working popular to be safe for public riders.(But if there were 5 cars running, then those could be more cars that haven't run yet this season.)

They try to keep an even cycle, which is why they have 3 ride op positions, 4 if you include grouper in the station (the second one checks the lapbar) so it's just the way the ride is run.

Yep.

Demon did the samething on Monday, got stuck on the lift hill at the very top, the rie-op was not sure what happened because he said that it has never been stuck that high on the lift hill before, hopefully it is not a common occurence for the ride.
