Fright Fest Update

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby DejaVu The Ride on July 28th, 2004, 12:22 am
After browsing through jpm's site, I noticed an updated creature crew. It includes the moving of the clowns from County Fair to Mardi Gras. There are also some new and 'weird' high profile characters. :D

Edit: Warning! Spoilers ahead. lol

they will probably have clowns in both county fair and mardi gras, but the mardi gras will be more colorful. in my opinion

I think this has already been posted but I forgot about it.

I can't belive the f'ing Scooby Doo Mystery Train is back, the Sceinic Railway running normaly is more entertaining. Fright Fest is a joke now to me, its appeal gets lower and lower every season, I mean what's so hard about having the Boo-Line, it actually draws a large queue, I never missed a train when I queued for the Mystery Train. Back in the good old days like 96 97 when the Boo-Line was at its best I remember waiting 2 yes 2 whole trains before getting on the ride that is how popular it was for people who did not go to the park back then.

Here is how it got progessivly worse:
Great years from what I remember 92-97: The theme was a movie studio called the Coroner Bros. Studios, and they would put on a skit then 15+ monsters would jump out including a Jason character complete with chainsaw and the monsters and the Jason character would jump onto the train then the train would pull away, but believe me it was awsome. I remember back in 1992 vivaidly I was 4 and I started balling my eyes out because Jason came next to me with his chainsaw I was so scared.

Decent year 1998: It was still the Coroner Bros. but they didn't have as many monsters and instead of Jason a guy with a shotgun look alike shot his fake shotgun into the air signaling the monsters to come out but there wasn't that many of them as years past and no Jason which makes the whole thing so scary.

Horrible Year: 1999. No Boo-Line at all I was so mad this year I complained to Guest Relations as did many people which resulted in.....

Decent/Semi-bad: 2000- The Boo-Line is back by popular demand as people were very mad that there was nothing what so ever of a skit. I can't really recall for sure what kind of skit was this year but I'm pretty sure it was along the lines of 1998's.

Complete joke year: 2001- This was the year of the elusive Pig-Man it looked intruging when I saw the park gudie for the 1st time but when I got into the station waiting and saw those cheap little inroduction video I knew it was going to blow. When the Pig-Man started making his dumb little noises I knew it was over again, not even remotely entertaining

Horrible Year: 2002- Again not Boo-Line what so ever, though I can't help but think it was a step up from the Pig-Man. I mean what is Six Flags thinking people complained before it was pretty obvious they were going to again and the result is.....

Almost as bad as Pig-Man year: 2003- The Mystery train sucks it just plain sucks no one cares about Scooby Doo Fright Fest is supposed to be scary, but its best attraction is turning into an f'ing kid fest. This ride was a failure, it was not popular at all at least with all the other bad versions of the Boo-Line they drew a line just because people know that the Boo-Line has great potential and they want to see how it turned out each year, but with Scooby Doo in the name it took away from 3/4 of the normal Boo-Line riders.

Now it seems Six Flags still wants to play this little childrens game which isn't going to get them anywhere. I don't have any problems with childrens rides being added to the park, but Fright Fest is not meant to appeal to children as it is so they shouldn't make the best ride during that period appeal to them. Sorry for the rant and if someone read this whole thing I would be surprised but this needs to stop SF needs to get back to being its old and good self again

The creature crew was updated on July 1, I believe. I for one, enjoyed the Scooby Doo ride.(Even though it was cheesy) I just wish I could have seen the old boo line to see exactly what I am missing.

There website is unreliable. Its not for sure that they will have the Scooby Doo train, wait untill it gets closer to Fright fest.
Edit: sfgamownz - I feel the same way you do about Fright Fest. I have been going every year since I was 5, and Every year, it gets worst and worst it seems. Hopefully SF will wake up and bring back the 'old fright fest'.

I'm sorry, but the train always appeals to kids more than anyone else during the regular year. So, why should they take away their ride? You went on it, and were balling your eyes because it was too scary when you were younger. Besides, that skit with Jason can get boring seeing it over and over each year. However, Pigman was sad. And to answer your question about the wait. The train was packed when I was on the Mystery Train.

I said that I liked the Grim Reaper big guy, the princesses in the kids area, but I forgot to add the skeleton that was by Mardi Gras and the one by the Demon. Those can entertain me for days. The one I don't care for is the one by County Fair games because you can't hear his jokes and the Travolta(sp) one near V2.

Uh maybe because Fright Fest isn't supposed to appeal to kids? It even says it on the park guides.....

^ Think about it. They did do that stupid "Not-so-scary zone" that one-year, and Yukon is always the kids area during FF.

You were four and you went. I also like those black things. They smell good.

Yeah I have noticed Fright Fest getting more and more dull each year. SFGA is turning into Kiddieland and Santa's Village. Its turning into a little kids park.

Dull. Last year I thought I might get mugged at night.

The scenic railway's a family ride and when old people/kids go a lot of times it's one of the only things they go on....so it makes sense to have it as a family attraction during Fright Fest.
And yes it did have a line last year with 2 trains running...

To put it short, Sccoby Doo's Mystery Train even had a line on November 2nd, which was the slowest day of the year. If there wasn't anything geared to the kids, they wouldn't come back again for Fright Fest which overall will have a major drop in attendance. If the kids aren't happy, the parents won't be either.

I also feel Fright Fest has been dwindling for the worst. I thought that "3-d" haunted house in the SWT was just horrible, and the Necropoulous (sorry if i spelled it wrong) is just WAY to short compared to haunted house standereds now these days. If they could only find a way to make the haunted houses bigger. I also think they need more monsters running around the whole park. I do like there music selection though and they do decorate some rides quite nice (like Chubasco) but it wouldnt hurt to decorate some new rides instead of the same ones year after year.

I liked the Terror Twister much better the way it originally was with only one song. When it was this way, the lights went along with the music. Now they just have a standard pattern than they use for each of the songs. It no longer gives that big flash on the bangs in the song. The strobe keeps going on constantly. I thought that it was more fun the old way.

Fright Fest 1998 Attraction Guide: "NOTE TO PARENTS: Please use discretion when allowing smal children to participate in events that might be to frightful for them" this is back when Fright Fest was actually scary, al la Boo-Line

Fright Fest 2003 Attraction Guide: "During Fright Fest, SFGAM is not the same park you experience during the regular season" They don't even have to warn kids about it being scary because it isn't.

And I never saw a line for the Scobby Doo crappy trainall 4 days I was there.

So for Fright Fest they just outta put some garbadge cans at the entrance to Camp and Looney Tunes Lodge and leave them sbno? This isn't Halloween Haunt they should and do have activities for little kids, Scooby Doo's a cartoon on Cartoon Network and kids know who he is and it's a family attraction that's supposed to be mild. There are PLENTY of other activities if you want the full Fright Fest teenager/young adult scary effect.

What Frightfest did all of you go too? Last year the park went out of their way to improve the event. I know nobody who was disappointed. They had better effects, Awesome Nightime theming my neighbor actually was spooked by how dark the park was. I've been to them all and last years wasn't a let down. In fact it rate up there with the years I visited Six Flags St. Louis's FrightNights. Stop your complaining afterall all you really want is the park to be open 1 Month later, without Frightfest it won't be. Just the Sky Trek Tower alone caused many phone calles to the fire department. If you don't like ours go somewhere else.

Exactly they have Camp Cartoon Network and Looney Toons National Park all devoted to them. Fright Fest is meant to be scary. And the kids have a whole quarter of the park to themselves I think that is more than enough.

Ron/Wolf I do not see how you can rate last years Fright Fest higher then what it was in the mid 90's that was the peak.

Last year the park was 1000% better then the year before.

When I went to it in 2002, I could not beleive how horrible it was, reason being, I honestly could not tell the difference between fright fest and a regular day at the park, other then the reason the park was packed...

Last year they improved over 2002 greatly, the themeing was great, entertainers were everywhere, etc....Much better, Im sure it wasnt as good as th early-mid 90's, but last year was without a doubt improving greatly over the years before it.

Last year was a lot better then the years before! 2002 was bad because of 9/11. The park didn't allow them to do a lot if the things that make the park great. The only reason they didn't make any changes fro 9/11 in 2001, is because of time. they weren't going to canel FF! but in 2003 they allowed the landscape designers and the crew at JPM to update their fright Fest. Which was a good idea, '03 was the best fright fest in a while. And i do remember the mid 90's fright fests, they were also great. The point i'm emphasizing is that '03 was a lot better then the few years preceeding it.

And I loved the Buffy Vampires.
