Six flags + Ebay = A really good deal

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby LC3 on July 11th, 2004, 3:03 pm
Hey guys:

I figured out a way to get cheap tickets to Six Flags. I was looking on Ebay the other day and noticed that tickets for six flags were up for bids. The amount that people were bidding them for was very cheap. This is a good way to get tickets to the park for pratically nothing (depending on how much the bid is at).

Have any of you tried this or even thought about this? I'm just curious.

One word...

Scalping...

Most of those tickets are most likely fake.

And there is no way to prove it until you are at the park.

It is against eBay's policy to sell fake items. If they think it looks suspicious, they'll stop the auction. People have been selling tickets to amusement parks for years and eBay has had no problem with it.

Well you could get in some pretty deep trouble if Six Flags found out that they didn't get any money for the tickets. It's safe not to do that, you could get kick out of SFGAm for life.

They still get the money for the tickets. If they didn't, then how does the seller have them?

I didn't think of that. Yet it could still be fake.

If they were fake, eBay wouldn't allow you to sell them :)

Good question. :lol: They really don't.

This is eBay's policy though...

Under the Seller Non-performance policy, the following practices are not permitted:

Not delivering an item for which payment was accepted.
Significantly misrepresenting an item by not meeting the terms and item description that are outlined in the listing

If you paid for an item that was significantly misrepresented or was not received, please refer to our Buyer Protection Program for information on steps you can take. You will also find instructions that will allow you to contact eBay on this page.

Also...

If you sent payment and did not receive your item or you received an item that the seller significantly misrepresented, we recommend that you contact the seller and work to resolve the situation. If that does not work, we encourage you to use an outside mediation service such as SquareTrade. After taking these steps, if you are unable to resolve the matter, we encourage you to file a Fraud Alert.

Buyers can file a Fraud Alert at least 30 days but not more than 60 days after a listing's end date. Please keep in mind that in addition to filing a Fraud Alert, you can contact eBay to report fraud at any time by following the steps on the Buyer Protection Program page.

And finally...

The eBay standard purchase protection program provides partial reimbursement for losses resulting from non-delivery or misrepresentation of most items up to $200 (minus $25 processing cost). Learn more.

But that doesn't mean they know that they know when their products are fake. Those are all things that happen after the purchase.

I just said they don't -_- All I did was show that you are protected if the tickets are fake (which they never are).

Ebay would only know by customer reports. They will lock out any user that has too many complaints from customers. If they seller was using fake tickets ebay then prosicutes them. If you possese the fake tickets at 6 flags you wont get in trouble they will go after the scalper, just like any sports stadium.

Even if the tickets are real, it IS against the ticketholder policy to re-sell the tickets by any means.

Nuff-said.

Ticket Scalping Act
Generally, this act declares it unlawful for people or companies to sell
tickets to baseball games, football games, hockey games, theater establishments
or any other amusement. Ticket brokers are exempted from some of the act’s
provisions if they meet the following requirements:
• they register with the secretary of state’s office;
• they are engaged in the resale of tickets on a regular ongoing basis
from one or more locations;
• reselling tickets is the principal business activity at these locations;
• neither the ticket brokers nor any of their employees have been convicted
of violating the act within the preceding twelve months.
• they maintain a state wide toll free number for consumer complaints
and inquiries;
• they adopt a minimum standard refund policy and standards of professional
conduct;
• they adopt procedures for binding resolution of consumer complaints
by an independent party
• they establish and maintain a fund in excess of $100,000, at least
fifty percent of which must be cash and available to pay valid customer
complaints.
Submitted as:
Illinois
Public Act 89-406
This law became effective on November 15, 1996.
