Be Greatful It's Six Flags Not Paramount's Great America!

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby Ron/Wolf on July 7th, 2004, 9:50 pm
Several years ago I visited Paramount's Great America at htat time what a Gem of a Park it was. They still ran their Trolleys all day with a Dixie Band on them. It was prettier then our park due to the longer growing season and had Themeing galore. That was then, Fast forward to now. Gone is any trace of Marriott Theming. Gone is the Train which was a real Steam Locomotive. Gone is the beautifuld burm of trees behing Columbia And The HomeTown Square Train Station,(It's all been leveled!!!) Now its a gapping hole with a swing ride there. Gone is The Tidal Wave, just footers now. Gone is Stealth, just Kings Islands old Water slides now. Gone is EVERY ORIGINAL THEMED AREA, now it;s Celebration Square, HollyWood Land, Nick Central. Rides plucked out everywhere. We hav ten times the rides at Six Flags Great America. It was sad what I saw this year shocking but now I understand why they operate 10-8 Sunday through Thursday and 10-9 Friday and Saturday. Can you believe on The 4th of July they closed at SIX O,CLOCK why because what they have done and I don't know why is run off all of their patrons it's a major shame. So next time your mad at Six Flags stop and think all that they have done to Preseve and bring back The Marriott Charm. Look at how it's paying off, I've never seen the park so busy this early in the Season. I'venever seen Themeing better at our park then this year and I know this is just the beginning. 10-10 and really on the Weekends we should be open to Midnight. The Gods are smiling down on us enjoy, embrace, and thank a Six Flags Official.

I knew SFGAm was one of the best theme parks there are in America Alleluia! I'm so glad that I picked the right park to study and love. By the way does anyone have lyrics or tune to the old Demon song?

I just realized this that PGA and SFGAm are got even more alike after they were taken over by their respective companies. Top Gun and BTR are both short intense, old beemer, inverts. Vortex and Iron Wolf are much alike older beemers, short, track through the loop. This may sound outlandish but it's till a reasonable comparison.

Also, if you look at a park map, their Demon and their Inverted (Not Giant Inverted) are across form each other.

Neither of the parks ever ran a real steam locomotive, almost but not quite.

And County Fair is still there.

Wrong. Kings Island only removed one of their slides, and I'm not sure what was done with it. But it isn't at PGA. All of PGA's slides are brand new.

Anyway, this is a good topic idea. It is unbelieveable that PGA has changed so much from what it used to look like. I've never been there, but pictures I see of it now look nothing like our Great America. :?
They only have a few original rides left, and all theme areas but County Fair and I think a little bit of Orleans Place are gone. I still can't belive they'd get ride of Scenic Railroad, But then again, they still have their Delta Flyer skyride.
Finally Coaster Season!!

I once went to PGA when my family was in Santa Clara. I had no idea it was related to SFGAm or was once owned by marriot. That's how much its changed.

About PGA, Tidal Wave there HAD to be removed. Also taking out Stealth for a waterpark, sounds pretty damn good to me! The other stuff though is irrelivent (PGA is trying to make it a different park, sue them).

Nobody has to sue them lack of crowds this season will tell the final story. If a Park closes at 6:00 on July4th you aren't seeing a problem here? No crowds, No money, No new Rides and soon the park that once was to be torn down, will be torn down, facts is facts.

I was looking into possibly making a trip out there some time, and I noticed admission is 50 bucks! Wow, and I thought that pricing at our park was bad.

Of course all of you are going to say that SFGAm is better than PGA. Which, is probably the truth but they haven't "screwed up" the park. It is actually still very alike to SFGAm, just in other aspects.

^ In a way they have. Lets see, a park about American history. They take out Yankee harbor and replace it with "Boomerang Bay", an Australian themed water park. The whole park is virtually re-themed. The only places left are parts of County Fair and Orleans Place. We kept all areas intact, other than changing 1/2 of Orleans into Mardi Gras, which really is the same theme. We also added the Great Southwest, part of the original plans, but we did call it Southwest Territory. We held on to our two flume rides. They got rid of one of theirs. We kept (Willard's) Whizzer. They sold it for scrap and replaced it with a Dare-Devil-Dive type thing. Although they kept their sky ride and the lighthouse, those are the only two things that they kept and we didn't. There are probably many more reasons that they have destroyed "Marriott's Great America Santa Clara” but it would take me too long to name them.

While it's sad that PGA has changed drastically from its Marriott days, Paramount has their own agenda and will act on it. They are a business and would rather have their own identity then a former owner.

Oh jesus. Just because Paramount didn't keep every freaking ride that was in GAm when it opened doesnt make the park a h*ll hole. Yes, granted SFGAm is probably better, but like previously stated, they are owned by Paramount. Not, Six Flags, so they can do whatever they want. And jeez GAm was never totally American theming, Yukon? That's Canada. So don't say they "destroyed" Santa Clara GAm. That is just pathetic.
