7/2/04 Packed but fun

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby DejaVu The Ride on July 3rd, 2004, 2:12 pm
Day: Friday July 2, 2004
Crowds: Very busy
Time in park: 10 hours, 45 minutes
Rides closed all day: V2, Triple Play, King Chaos
Weather: Sunny and warm til about 6 and then sunny and cooler

I hitched a ride with my friend and his family and we left at about 8:30(instead of the 7:30 time that we were suppose to). We arrived at the park at about 10 and it took 25 minutes to park and for them to get their tickets and get through the metal detectors. My friend would meet back with his family at about 1:30 for Lunch.

The park already seemed a little packed, so we decided to see if DejaVu had opened or tested yet. It was open and had a wait to where the switchbacks start(straight line). I had hoped they had a grouper and they did. 30 minutes later we were in 8b. It was fun as always and more intense that row 1a or b. Later in the day, DejaVu had a full queue and probably at least a hour and a half wait. DejaVu also ran great all day. I didn't see it break down but it could have and it was running past 10. It seemed that everytime I looked at it, it was running with people on it.

Next, we checked out Demon and decided to wait the 10 minutes for somewhere in the middle. I loved my ride! I didn't notice if they ever put the yellow train on today for 3 train op. Now we wanted to ride Raging Bull which was out to almost the entrance with no queues used(also 3 trains running). The wait was about 20 minutes and moved fast. We sat back row which always gives an excellent ride. I didn't see the line much too longer but it could've been in the afternoon.

Viper's line was too long for us, so we went to River Rocker for a quick ride. It was alright, but I wouldn't ride it unless it is walk-on.

We went back to Revolution to find a short one cycle wait. It was fun and my friend really loved it, especially the 2nd half. The line had a 3/4 full queue later in the day. Next was American Eagle first Blue and then Red. Both had 5 minute waits and both were running great with no hard trims. I still like Red(Forward) better because it has one more bunny hill instead of a straight part that Blue(backwards) has to take.

Next, we took a quick bathroom break and went into Iron Wolf's straight line that went to the entrance. It took 35 minutes for the front row. Let me say that Iron Wolf is running great this year! I haven't had a rough ride this year that would make me vow to never ride it again.

Now it was time to meet up with my friend's family to go to lunch. We went to Wendy's and saved a lot of cash. 1 hour later and we were back to the park an had to park in the back lot(which is better if you want to avoid traffic at the end of the day). We went back in and it seemed a little busier than earlier.

When we went back, we went with my friend's family and waited for them to ride Big Easy Balloons, which had a 15 minute wait. We went and rode Roaring Rapids which had a 20 minute wait. I got soaked and it felt great because it was getting warm. We broke away from his family again and went to ride Batman. The line went in to Gothom City park and moved very quickly because the crew was not stacking. Once one train ended it's run, another was coming up the lift. We waited 25 minutes for a great ride. I also noticed that the fan and lights and fog in the drain sewer were shut off and the stairs were brighter than they were a couple weeks ago.

Now we figured Ragin' Cajun's line would not go down all day so we rode it and waited just out the entrance. I figured it would be an hour wait and it was. Once at the station the op made us wait 4 trains until the green train with only 2 seats working came back. She didn't even look for a group of two. Then when one group of two came we reminded her that we were waiting and then there was another group of two behind them. She let both groups of two go ahead of us(2 trains). I got a little mad that she forgot that we were even in the station. Well after 1 hour and a quick delay(They picked up a purse that was by the transfer) we were on had a rough but really fun ride. I almost knocked my friend out but he was ok.

Next was the Whizzer which had a 10 minute wait with a 3 train op. It didn't help too much but it did add maybe 100 more people and hour. We rode the back row which is rough but fun. I actually like the front better though.

Then we saw my friend's family and decided we would ride Viper which had a 25 minute wait and a full station. My friend and I rode 1:3 which is the best seat on the train by far. It also has the shortest wait because of the first row line. Then we rode Trailblazer which was walk-on and an ok ride. Then another 20 minute wait for Raging Bull in the back.

We said we would meet my friend's family at 9:45 and we were off in to the night. We decided it was time to ride Superman. It looked to have about an hour and a half wait or maybe a little less. My friend has never ridden it so I figured we would wait. 5 minutes into the line, it shuts down for a maintenance check. A little later it reopens. Then 2 girls come by the fastlane line and ask for a group of two. At first I thought they were employees looking for 2 people to sit in a row, but I thought then it was whack to think that.

I raised my hand, and one girl said come on we got fastlane and it is going to close soon so we need two people to help us finish it off. We did and waited 5 minutes to get in the line and we decided to go front row. We did and after 25 minutes we were on. It is fun in the front but nothing like the back. Funny enough the girls jumped into the second row because they had to leave. It was fun talking to them. Also, the third row was blocked off and it could only run every other train in it. They used it for exit passes then for the 2nd row to use.

Next we hit Batman which had a line near the stairs. 7 minute wait for back row. Then the U2 song came on as we get on. I love it. Na Na Na.....
It pumps me up and I have an awesome night ride. Next we ran to Iron Wolf and waited 5 minutes for the back row, which was surprisingly fun and forceful.

Now we rode Giant Drop, 3 minute wait and my friend was freaked. Also were the guys next to us. After the ride, they said that the would have rather jumped off a 200 foot building than do that.

Raging Bull's line looked to be about 15 minutes so we jumped in and decided to wait for front row. After 30 minutes, we were on and had a great night ride on this too. We had 3 minutes til close.(We missed our 9:45 meeting time already.) What better way to end the day than a night ride on....Viper. It just came off of a breakdown and we were on the second to last train of the night and enjoyed every second of our 5 minute wait. What a great way to end the day. We went to Pizza hut for dinner and left Gurnee at 11:30 and got home at 1! Long day but great!

There was no work being done on V2 or Triple from what I could see and 2 people were working on King Chaos most of the day. The park was busy but a lot of people were not riding rides. The aprk looked great and I can't wait for my next visit. I could wait any wait(within reason) and ride any ride. Six Flags Great America is top-notch. Until next time.

Batman has been one of my favorites this year and I swear it's got something to do with the queue music.

On Wendesday around 950 this slower love song came on that nearly everybody on my train knew. (I later found out that it was Seal- Kiss From a Rose.) We all were singing it through the ride and when we got back into the station. It was a thing of beauty.

From that soundtrack the songs I know of that are played in the batcave:

Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - U2
Kiss From A Rose - Seal
The Passenger - Michael Hutchence

They don't play the soundtrack they take select songs from each.

That's possible, the op was talking to us about the songs after we sang and he said that there was just the soundtrack that plays over and over again, so I figured it was that one.
