I know there's a topic with mechanic's vs. operator's controls in it and I was going to ask this there, but I couldn't find it...
I noticed that a lot of rides have a "Ride Stop" and "Emergency Stop" buttons. (The Lift Stop button is pretty obvious.) I figured that the Emergency Stop button shuts down EVERYTHING, but what does the Ride Stop button do?
I think the ride stop button stops the lift hill chain and whatever train is on it, and lets the rest of the trains run thru. I'm probably wrong, though!
Both ride stop and emergency stop will stop the train at the next avaible point (safe spot, so the trims on RB's third hill wont do anything). I think that an emergency stop is ride triggered and requires a mechanic to reset while a ride stop is triggered by the operators and can be restarted easier. [/img]
Yep that's exactly it Aero. On an impulse both of those buttons are there so if something comes onto the station floor or breaks the light curtain the entire ride must not be reset. An EStop would be used the night Superman Ultimate Escape ripped a LIM off whereas a quick stop would be used on an event such as a girl losing her shoe.
This is pretty much for SFGAm only, while the functions are the same all around, restarting rides is way different outside of Six Flags parks.
Ride stop: Ends the cycle early on the flats but in a normal fashion, just early. On coasters it stops the train at the next control point. Flats can be restarted normally by the ride op, a supervisor or maintaince person has to restart the coaster and reset the blocks manually.
E-Stop- Cuts all power to the ride, throws the breakers, Flat rides can do strange things, Orbit will stop spinning and basically freefall back to the loading position, however most flats will just coast to a stop. Coasters it's basically same as a ride stop but it carries a fairly huge penality should a ride op hit it. Also with all the air out of the braking system (Arrow's and Vekoma's excluded, as they require air pressure to keep the brakes closed and default to open without air/power) the stop at the end of the ride/control point can be incredibly hard.
