Mini Trip-Get to know DeJaVu 5-27-04

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Aero737 on May 27th, 2004, 2:03 pm
I never really thought that I would be going to Great America today but I decided to go at the last min.

I left at 9 and got to the park at 10:15 after some major driving on the tollways. Saw abotu 15 busses pulling into the parking lot. Uh Oh. :(

I first got in and went to DeJaVu. Ride was not operating but after a 10 min wait I was on the back row. Good ride a little jerky. I got out and heard that it was temporarily closed. I waited by the entrance (I was the only one waiting) for about 5 min and I got front row on the second train of the day. Much better. I havent ridden the front for a while. I got out and back into line. OOoo. Row 4 this time. Again good. I repeated this until I had racked up 5 rides on DeJaVu in the first hour and a half.

I went over to Giant Drop to get my first ride of the season on it. Uh Oh. Line was backed up into the caverns with only 3 car operation. WTF  Well I ended up getting my ride after 15 min of wait. From the top I saw about 20 busses backed up waiting to come in. Uh Oh again.

I went to AE (A day isn't complete without a ride on AE). Blue was the only side running. I walked on and WOW! This ride was so fast and intense I didn't know what hit me. It was just a little more rough than normal but it was faster than hell! We flew through all the normal trim sections with little to no brakeing. A lot of comments about how fast the ride was. Getting out some kids decided to spit on an employee under the bridge by the traintracks. Security held up the entire line for 5 min waiting for someone to confess. Nobody did. Stupid highschoolers.

Park was filling up fast now and I wanted to try batman after the rave reviews about how well it was running. Line was out of the que enterance. Next ride please!

V2 was on the way out. Line was to the top of the stairs. I went for back row. Cool! Good ride on my fav. of them all. Nothing out of the ordianary. I went around for one more ride before calling it quits at about 12:45.

I did see the flooding from AE's lift hill. It is the neighboor hoods directly east of the ride. A lot of standing water around there. The swamp on AE and the helix was surprisingly dry. Other than that, no sign of any flooding anywhere.

Arg. I have the Vengaboys now, it was an okay song at first but now I just hate it. Reflecting pond was empty. They were putting neon lights on Cajun's station. Jesters Wild Ride was running but not Balloons. King Chaos is still sitting there. Looks ready to open anytime.

Yeah it's nice that it's open on weekdays now but the park is still very understaffed on weekdays as Giant Drop running 3 cars.

Yeah, I agree with the staffing issue. Almost every ride was running with the minumum amount of operators. Other than Jesters and revolution, there was no other flat rides running.

No other flats were open?

That is quite alot of rides to be closed.

Staffing is always an issue this time of year during the weekdays. It will increase starting next week I am sure.

And what did you mean by the reflection pond being empty? No water in the pond?

Hopefully they are cleaning out the reflection pool/pond. It was looking awfully green on Saturday.

I was there today too and I couldn't believe how many busses were there! There weren't too many cars, but it was pretty crowded. And only Giant Drop(3 sides), Revolution, Jesters, Chubasco, and Hometown Fun Machine, Stargate, and Sky trek tower were the only flats open with minimal staffing. Roaring Rapids with a 30+ minute wait was only running 2 rafts. The pond in front of KC was filled and had the waterfall thing on. Rajin Cajun's neon sign was being put up. They also added a lot of little signs saying Hotel Royale and Where The Elite Meet. Both rides look like they should be open this weekend.

When I was there (early) I didn't see Sky Trek running or Chubasco. I wasn't really paying attention.

Ah, I see. Must be when the kids get out of school and the PM shift comes in. In the morning, half of the shops and games were closed.
