Severe weather.

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby rctfan1556 on May 23rd, 2004, 9:13 pm
I know there has been topics on this but this is a more specific topic about today.

Ok as the people in Lake County know, we were under a Tornado Warning.
What did everyone think when the sirens in Gurnee and Waukegan started going off?
Me, I was freaked out. I am not use to this kinda weather as I am from Washington and have lived there and Cali. What about anyone else?
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/

If IL gets a tornado, which is not often, it is southern IL, so not much to worry about.

First of all, don't call me or my comments stupid. You don't know me. If you don't agree with what I posted, simply say that.

Second, I said "not often" not never.

I live 3 miles from gam, and at around 8 oclock a nation weather survice thing cut us off from the sopranos and said that a 40 mph tornado was coming eastward through gurnee in lake county Illinois. My moms friend who lives about a half mile away said she ran to her basement when she saw the tornado.

I never saw one. I only had hail. I didnt really care about gam at the moment either because those rides are in the ground good.

Well people must not hear much about the country side, because I live in the north-west part of the state and we get quite a few tornados a year.
And by the way I was in Gurnee today and a massive, ugly funnel cloud went right over me and the park. Kinda cool.
Thats what I think!

Like how massive? On the scale of 0-5.

Galvan316: Could you send me those pics if you have them still?

Illinois is 5th for the most tornadoes each year. And so far this year has the most tornado related deaths.

Actually Northern Illinois is more likely....

Bourbonnais, Which is where I live :( , Is currently the most likely place to have a tornado, With Bradley, Kankakee and Manteno all in the top 10 as well, which are all right next to each other - Kankakee county is only 30 minutes south of chicago ;)

News Radio 780 WBBM

There were flood warnings and tornado warnings for a tornado heading east through Gurnee. The Des Plaines river was supposedly seeing record flooding.

Does anyone want the video I took last night? Aero I like the pics. Also my cousins windshield was taken out by the hail and I DID get tape of a touchdown after all. Lasted about 43.87 sec. Its kinda sketchy though because my cousin is doing 70+ on the side street with pot holes. :x

I would also like to see it, but PM me for contact information. Unless you were in Romeoville or further south, I highly doubt that it was an acuall touchdown. It might of been a dust whirl from a microburst and lowered scud clouds (they sometimes appear to touch the ground). Anyways, and still captures or video clips would be helpfull to me and to the NWS. I would suggest you sent the tape to them if you suspect there is a tornado on it-it could be helpful for insurance claims for anything damaged by it.

Anyways. Before this topic is done (which it soon will) http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/040523_rpts.html

Also, I didn't take thoes pictures- Mike (Galvan316) did.

Good idea there Aero. Good thing there wasn't much if it all damage from these storms(besides the flooding). Now is tonight supposed to be a rain threat or somthing like we saw yesterday(i doubt that)?

Can somebody tell me if we are caught in the jet stream right now? Is that why we keep getting storm system after storm system?

I don't know about the jet stream, but we were under a stationary front. What I remember, that's the worst kind of front.

I live in Lockport which is neighbors with Romeoville and we were standing outside watching the clouds and we heard this helicopter somewhere above us.. it was so loud but we couldn't see it. It turns out that it was video taping in Romeoville because there was some damage.
