Book It!

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby CoasterDave316 on March 17th, 2003, 12:08 am
I was wondering if they still do Book It in schools? Way back in grade school when I remember always doing Book It to get free SFGAm Tickets, you had to read so many minutes (or just have your parents sign off saying you read so many minutes) and after you got so many minutes you would get free SFGAm Tickets. They only did this for students in my school up to 6th grade and I was wondering if anyone knows if it still exists. It was a great program and what basically got me going to Great America.

Yeah I remember I use to do that too. Ours also ended in 6th grade, but it reminds me not to go to the park in late July cause that's when the tickets expire, so most people use it then. I made that mistake last year... And by the way, I think it was 600 minutes, but I don't think I read more than an hour.

Wow, I got screwed as a kid! We didn't get Six Flags tickets, but instead we got free personal pan pizzas to Pizza Hut. Wow, what a rip off! I'm gonna yell at my old principal.

Wait you remind me of something, I remember getting free personal pan pizzas too. I think you got a personal pan pizza for every star or something and then got the six flags tickets if you read over 600 minutes. I don't think I ever read 10 minutes, my mom just signed the sheet. :)

Yeah then we difinitely got screwed because I read 600 mins a month for a stupid pizza. Huge waste of time, that's 10 hours of reading!... for a pizza that lasts 15 mins!

Yeah I remember the pizza too?! I forgot what that was for, but I remember some pin and you put the stars on the pin or something like that. Once you had all of the stars it was a free pizza. Good Times...

I just had to get one star for a free pizza. I don't think you got anything more special for your sixth star though. Oh well, its in the past now anyways.

Yeah... They still do the Book It/Read to Succeed thing for a free GA ticket. My lil sister does it every year. Except they changed it from 600 minutes, to 6 hours.

Oh yeah, the "read-it" program is still going on. My co-worker's daughter does this every year. I feel its a great program. On a side note, that said co-worker's husband and father of the girl in the program just passed away last week. Sad times. :(
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I don't remember doing any Book-It programs, but I definitely remember Mathathon in 5th grade. I got a free ticket to visit any Six Flags theme park, and so thats how I started going to SFGAm. I will never forget it. Last year they didn't have it, but I'm doing Mathathon again this year, and if I get a free ticket again we'll use it for one of my friends. I think like the K-6th grade are doing this 'Six Flags 6 Hour Reading Program' at my new school.

It's not Marathon, its Math-A-Thon. It's like this sort of fundraiser for St. Jude's hospital... You get this math book to work in and its due at a certain date I think, but I don't think they collect the books. And you have to collect a certain amount of money to win prizes. I think you need to collect $25 or $35 to get the Six Flags ticket and so on.

We have a reading for something like that, but it's for the MS (multiple sclerosis) society. You get Cleveland Indians tickets, not SFWoA tickets. Kind of sucks too... if only we could get SFGAm to promote out by my house then we'd be great, WoA isn't too hyped up around here. Maybe then my little brother and sisters could get tickets to the park.

Hmm..I remember doing that. I think i read six hours 3 or 4 times, and I got the Great America tickets. But my parents never wanted to go, and I never got to use them :( . Too bad they dont do stuff like that for high school, I would gladly read even 20 hours.

Well on the same page as school and six flags, does your schools take you to six flags for a physics type day in the advanced math classes and physics?
