Opening day, 2004.

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby w00dland on May 2nd, 2004, 12:52 am
I'm just going to put in my two cents about the coasters and new rides that I went on for opening day. It was a VERY good day in general though.

Raging Bull- Excellent! I ran there and got first departure front row, and was the second at the ride. Definatly proud of myself hehe. One of the rides later in the day I think I had my lapbar a little too high (if there is such a thing) sense the first drop scared the living daylights out of me. It was quite the rush though. This ride also ended my day with 3 rerides in a row. All in all, 6 rides.

Viper- We hit this one later in the day and the airtime was amazing! Every ride we rode in the back car, but never the back row. The seatbelts don't effect your airtime at all. I got A LOT of airtime, it was beautiful. 3 rides.

American Eagle- We went on this in the morning, and it was pretty rough if you ask me. Just didn't quite do it for me today but the first drop still rocked. 1 ride

Iron Wolf- Really surprised me. My first ride of the year I went right for the backseat (what am I, crazy?) and I came off the train without hitting my head once. The forces were incredible and I came back many times. 4 rides.

V2- I didn't think the new supports help the swaying much at all, the structure still swayed quite a bit, but the rides were still awesome! Gotta love that speed. I tried doing the "penny trick" but failed miserably. 2 rides

Batman- I don't care what everybody says, the new paintjob is pretty. It seemed really fast for me today, really really fast. But I liked it a lot. The ride was dead all day so I had lots of rerides. 6 rides

Superman- I only got this one once, but it was a beauty. I missed that pretzal loop during the offseason, and it rocked! It broke down a few times later in the day, so I only made it one once. 1 ride

Demon- I rode this in the morning, a lot. 6 rerides with the train all to ourselfs for two of them in the front row. It was quite nice actually. I got good airtime in the back and the new paintjob, or whats finished of the new paintjob, looks quite nice. 6 rides

Deja "miscatch" Vu- I have actually never seen a miscatch before in my life, didn't know it was that noisy. Once it actually opened, I was nowhere near it, so I had to wait 35 minutes for the front row (oh well). But it was still amazing! I tried getting on it again at the end of the day a few times, but 2 miscatches later I decided to go to Bull.

Whizzer- Hehe, I love this oldie. It ran very well today, and we had the train to ourselves for one ride in the front row. Decided to do a little marathon at about 630. All said and done, 6 rides.

Stargate SG-3000- My friend, who has seen an episode of Stargate before thought it was really cool. I just didn't get most of it. Oh well just give me a few more rides and I'll figure it out. 1 ride

Revolution- I'm not the one for spinny rides. This was sort of an exception. It made me a little sick, but the forces and just the ride type was amazing! I liked it, but decided this was a one time a day ride. 1 ride

So Ragin Cajun is begining to be built, and the rest of the track is in the employee parking lot. Right by Shockwave. Crowds were not there today, and I think I may have seen 2 families the entire day. The coupon book is filled with neat little things. Can anyone say, Dare-Devil-Dive? Near perfect day is all I can say.

If anyone cares, I was wearing my "The Boss" shirt over the top of the white hoodie. I think I saw a few of you guys from here there. I knew it had to be Dave and his bro playing cards infront of Deja Vu while it was going through it's massive testing session. I so if you saw me, tell me :D.

The Dare Devil Dive $15 off is actually $5 per person (up to 3 people) if you read the back.

I've done the penny trick on V2, only it wasn't on purpose and it wasn't with coins. it was with the strings on my hoodie. when we hit the brakes on the back tower, I saw them fall straight out in front of me and then when we were released, they just kinda floated in front of my face until we hit the slope.

nice TR.
I don't have a detonator; its on a timer.
A countdown timer?
No, a count-up timer. It goes from one to explode.

I was at Opening Day. Here is my track record.

Raging Bull- 3 rides. AWSOME. I wanted my first roller coaster for 2004 to be Deja Vu but Deja Vu wasn't open until about 4:00. My mom first rode Raging Bull yesterday. She FREAKED OUT.

American Eagle-1 ride. My first ride on American Eagle was FUN. Yes my first ride on American Eagle yesterday. Not that I was scard last year (last year was the first year we got season passes). I just never got to ride.

Iron Wolf. 1 ride. My friend and I were in the secand to last car. I kept my head on one side of the restraint and didn't hit my head. Iron Wolf was FUN.

V2- Along with American Eagle. Yesterday was my first time on V2. V2 was AWSOME. V2 became my 3rd favorite.

Batman the ride- Batman looks cool in its new paint. I like the new paint. Batman was FUN.

Superman Ultimate Flight- Superman is now my 4th favorite. Superman was FUN. It was my dad's first time on Superman and he liked Superman. We found a cell phone when we were on the brakes right before coming back to the station. The reason I said that is that my dad lost his cell phone on American Eagle. Fortunatly SFGAm found his cell phone today.

Deja Vu- AWSOME, AWSOME, AWSOME. Of course we should all know by now that Deja Vu is my favorite. I thought that Deja Vu would make it. One guy hade to get off because he was to tall. I feel SO sorry for him though. My friend and I waited 1hour and 15 minutes for Deja Vu.

We had to leave after Deja Vu because it was getting cold and my mom HATES the cold. Revolution was open when my friend and I were in line for Deja Vu. We had to leave though. I saw Ragin Cajun construction. Looking good. We got to walk through Mardi Gras. Why was Splash water falls open yeterday though when it was cold? A AWSOME opening day.
It's green. It's blue. It's all over you! Enjoy your ride on Déjà Vu

Yes I realized that Dare-Devil-Dive was 5 dollars off each person, but oh well...it gives me a great excuse to do it.

And SFGAM11, I was there with a girl so it was probably me.

Yeah, I remember you from last year on Nov 2nd. I think it was you I saw at the entrance gates with a girl yesterday.
I know I saw Holydumb a lot.

Anyway, May 1st was a good day. I don't think I've ever ridden so many different rides in one day. Here's a quick run down, since I don't want to start another whole topic.

Raging Bull: 5 rides. I was on last train of the night, and someone puked on it. :?
Whizzer: 3 rides- This rides needs to be repainted.
V2: 3 rides- I missed this ride!
Batman: 2 rides-Paint looks awesome in person.
Iron Wolf: 1 ride-Not rough at all today!
Demon: 3 rides- Paint looks great!
Superman: 2 rides- Second train of the day.
Viper: 3 rides- Anyone know what they're building in the exit path?
Spacely's Sprocket Rockets: 1 ride- I had to :D
American Eagle- 2 rides, one forward, one backward.

Other rides I rode:
Condor
Rue Le Dodge(twice, I've never laughed so hard!)
East River Crawler
Fiddler's Fling
Sky Trek Tower
Hometown Fun Machine
The Orbit (my new favorite flat!)
Scenic Railroad
Great American Raceway
Ricochet
Chubasco

It was great to finally be back at Great America. The park looks really good, new paint everywhere. All rides were open(except Triple Play, Whirligig, and Logger's Run), and all coasters were running two trains(except V2, Deja Vu, and Spacely. Duh :) ) All employees we encountered were smiling, and friendly.)
Finally Coaster Season!!
