Tornado/severe weather plan

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby chicago1990 on March 6th, 2016, 2:36 pm
Good Afternoon,
I know this has been mentioned here before but what are SFGAM's plans for tornado and severe weather? What does the park do when a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued for the area? How often do they play the announcements over the Parks PA system? Thank you.

Sounds like a live person on the Parks PA system. But why would they include,"do not call 911 listen to 102.3 FM?" Could this announcement be coming from the Village of Gurnee? Thanks

No, it's coming from the park. They don't want people to panic. Not sure how many guests have radios....

Assuming that radios are even allowed in the park in the first place. So why would they mention the 102.3 radio station in the announcement again?

Based on the videos, the park seems unprepared for an emergency like severe weather. They probably do have a plan, that's something they should have experience with after over 40 years of operation. The employees are probably where the breakdown was; just unprepared for that and maybe didn't know the right procedures. I would recommend to anyone to come up with your own plan before you go. You should do that for anywhere you go. Don't wait for someone to tell you what to do, always be prepared.

There's usually at least one per season, so the odds of it happening are very slim. Last season, there was a tornado warning August 2nd. I haven't seen any footage of it inside the park however.

Another video made by JiggdyNGD, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mDw_EirzHA how come the announcements are different? One sounds like a recorded female voice and another one is a live person.
thanks

^^ This time there actually was an F0(or F1) tornado that went through Grayslake, Wildwood, and Third Lake. Didn't go near SFGAm, though. Besides, this happened at night well after the park closed. The damage wasn't that bad either. Just a few power lines, fences, roofs, and trees. No destroyed buildings or anything.

The one you hear telling you do don't call 911 is indeed from the Village of Gurnee's Emergency system. The Village of Gurnee has tornado siren right on Six Flags property. The female voice is the parks own in house system.
