With the recent anounsment of V.R comeing to 9 different six flags' parks, great america not being one of them. I could still see a V.R system ether installed on Demon or Batman. What do you guys think?
Dispatch times at this park suck, for the most part. I have a hard time imagining the introduction of VR headsets would do anything other than worsen that considerably.
It seems like Flags doesn't care what kind of coaster they're putting it on. Across the chain, VR will be on hypers, Eurofighters, and Arrow/Vekoma Loopers.
It seems like the other side always wins on American Eagle Also, I've ridden Goliath 23 times in one day. HBU? (Sorry in advance for unnecessary commas and parenthesis every where)
If this is popular, then, yes, I'm 100% sure it will come to Great America. They're clearly going all out on this (to the extent that I'm actually really surprised we're not included this year, unless they don't want to cause confusion because Justice League also involves a visual component), so I presume they're very excited about it.
I don't feel like I would like a ride with VR more than without, but if it was at SFGAm I would still try it every now and then. It seems like a cool concept but personally I don't think I'll find it better than without it. If I'm with my friends I wouldn't use it but if I was at the park alone I would give it a whirl every now and then. I'm going to SFNE so I'll try it there but I kinda wish SFGAm had it. Maybe later.
Alton Towers is putting it on AIR, though putting them on these large coasters I think is going to cause a problem, they don't always sync up to the ride, instructions are if that happens, remove your headset and enjoy the ride normally. Those are big and surprisingly heavy headsets due to a number glass lenses inside between the phone and your eyes.
It is pretty awesome though, got to try it out a couple times at Europa Park on their powered coaster, it really does make a world of difference. I though it was going to be pretty stupid, but afterwards I was pretty blown away by how well it was done. Though personally I don't see them working well at SF, all someone has to do is sit in the wrong row with their headset and they'll spew all over if they don't take it off quick. Each car has different headsets with the proper timing to sync with the ride.
Favorite Wood Coasters: The Voyage, Ravine Flyer II, Thunderhead, Balder Favorite Steel: Voltron Nevera, Steel Vengeance, Expedition GeForce, Olympia Looping Parks visited: 232, Coasters Ridden: Steel: 894, Wood: 179, Total: 1073
IMHO this is crap we don't ned. WTF do I need VR for when this IS reality?!? I think the park should spend this money elsewhere to improve the park performance ie hire more people. Why does everything have to be electronic and a video game. Sure I'm a gamer but I don't need to be on 24/7 I want a break.
Has anyone considered the transfer of bacteria and pathogens with the VR mount literally touching the faces of hundreds of passengers daily? The thought of it disgusts me. From the sweat, dirt, odor (woman's perfume and just general funk), and heck, even saliva (although it just covers the eyes, it's close enough to the mouth, and considering all the screaming and potential uncontrollable head jerking happening throughout the course of a ride, I don't think it's too far-fetched). I have an Oculus Rift DK2, and without even being in a high-thrill moment, that thing can get pretty steamy on the inside. The foam between the plastic that serves to conform the unit to the shape/size of your face is light a sweat sponge. Now imagine a 90 degree summer day at Great America! Unless these things come with a disposable plastic that you can put over it (or at the very least some antibacterial spray that gets applied between dispatches), no thanks. Does anyone know if Six Flags has addressed this issue?

Yeah, especially with all the nasty people who visit the park.... It's pretty disgusting! Imagine what would happen if some greaser puked That wouldn't be pleasant

I believe i read somewhere they the VR Glasses will be cleaned between each use.
As for the VR coming to SFGAM, it depends on how well it does at the parks getting it this season. It appears that Six Flags signed a deal with Samsung to get these glasses. I would not be supersized if Samsung is footing the bill for all these glasses in order to promote there phones and well as the VR glasses they sell to the general public.
I think a lot of you are underestimating how much different the experience will be with this technology. And we are still in the early stages of VR. VR is gonna change the industry for the better. I'm glad Six Flags is continuing to innovate. I think we'll see a lot of cool stuff with this. I would love to see us get it next year. I think the ideal ride for this is X-Flight.

Superman would be very good as long as the headsets are very light and it's easy to hold your head up.

VR on a coaster would only be very successful on a ride with a lot of forces. If you don't really feel much, and you can't see what you are actually doing, I can't imagine it would be very beneficial. I'm actually surprised that they picked Revolution, being that the ride is pretty tame. I think X2 would be kind of fun with VR, even though it is a very visual coaster. I am assuming they do not want these on coasters with OTSRs?
As far as SFGAm coasters, I would say that TDK would be the best bet...being that all the current theming doesn't work, heh. I think that having VR on a flat ride would be fun as well. I just know it would be hard to time up a video to random movements.
I'm not really a fan of this idea. Theme parks like to follow trends, and lately it seems like Six Flags has been building shorter coasters. If this takes off, there would be no need to build coasters with visually stimulating elements. Why build a coaster over 100ft when you are just going to add VR where height doesn't matter?
After seeing the "video" that is used on Dare Devil Dive down at Six Flags Over Georgia, I must say that I'm impressed... It seems to add to the experience and the world created seems very immersive... It seems to take several rides to take in all the details that are in the virtual reality, so there is some longevity with the VR...

There are two coasters with OTSRs getting these upgrades.
