Activating 2016 Season Pass

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby UnclePennybags on September 8th, 2015, 9:39 pm
I just bought a 2016 season pass and have to activate it before November 1 to get it upgraded to Gold. I talked with SFGAm and they told me to take my newly purchased voucher to the Pass Activation Center to get my pass. Because the park isn't open until Fright Fest, I'll have to get the pass at that time.

I heard that the park is typically at capacity during Fright Fest, which means long lines. Because Gold Pass members get their own parking and entrance queues, could I get into the park quicker than non-Gold pass guests? I'm thinking that while most people would be running to Goliath when the gates open, I could make a beeline for the Activation Center to get through that line quickly.

You shouldn't have to get your pass activated at all. They'll just do it at the gate.

How do they create the card at the gate?

The pass is a very thin card. It isn't like a drivers license, think thinner and cheaper. You hand them your barcode print out confirmation of purchase and place your index finger on the scanner. The card is then printed right there at the gate, which is just printing your unique barcode and ID number onto the existing card stock.

To get the gold upgrade you have to go to the pass processing center in Hometown Square. They made me do that. I don't know if it was because we bought the passes in the park but it was really crowded at the pass processing center so I think you have to go to get the upgrade. I would ask to make sure.

I think you'll still have to go to the activation center to upgrade to gold. The park isn't nearly as busy early in october. Go the first or second weekend and you should be ok. Getting there early will help though. I think the season pass entrance is off Grand Ave where you go the drop-off. You should be able to get in quicker there.

Edit: In another thread someone said they got it activated at the gate and didn't need the activation center at all. So I'm probably wrong.

Is there a welcome packet or information once you activate a season pass that explains your benefits? The website is less than useful. There are bullet points such as: VIP early entry. Early entry to what, the park or just entry beyond the turnstile and then you have to wait for 10:30 like everyone else?

^You should get a benefits booklet at the gate. It's really a bunch of Bring a Friend days, a lot of merch. discounts, a refill on a ring bucket, buy one get one free for DDD and Go Karts, a few food discounts, and a $5 off of Flash Pass per person.

The only thing I needed to go to the activation center for was to get my dining pass onto my season pass. They do give you your pass at the gate like it was stated but if you purchased the dining pass, you have to go to the activation center to get that processed onto your pass. I'm glad I'm doing mine this early because this year I waited almost 2 hours to get my dining pass processed on Opening Day so do it as early as you possibly can. When I go on Opening Day of FF, I'm gonna get my dining pass processed right when I get there so I won't have to worry about it the rest of the day.

I don't know about buying it at the park, but I bought mine online and got it processed (including the gold upgrade) right at the gate. I think the reason that pass processing was so busy was dining passes, and I think they're selling a lot because I saw a lot of people with the new blue sports bottles - I think they were only giving those to new dining pass people.

On Monday I had my season pass w/ Dining Pass all processed and activated at the park entrance. They gave me the pass holder's saving guide for 2016 right there as well. If you have the Season Dining Pass you can pick up your sports bottle at the window to the right of Trolley's Treats in Hometown Square. (Near Hometown Fun Machine). So no need to go to the pass processing center if you purchased passes online.

yeah, if you bought it online, everything is done right at the gate, if you purchased (or had someone purchase) the pass at the park, then you have to go to pass processing to put in your personal info.

Would the shopping passes be included the things they are able to do at the gate? Does anyone know if that is a separate card?

^Everything added is on a single pass. The dining, parking, shopping, etc. are all included on your pass(if bought). I don't think you need to go to Pass Processing if you got it online. As far as I know, you get the "add-ons" online, and you get a box on your Voucher saying what you added. When that's scanned to your card, it automatically adds it.

You may have to go to the activation center depending on how you purchase your season pass. If you purchased it onlilne and check the box to add dinning, and/or shopping they will only print one voucher that you present at the gate and they will give your Season Pass. if for some reason you purchased the add ons differently you will have multiple vouchers, You then you will have to go to the activation center for them to add those items onto your pass.

Considering I purchased everything online at the same time, I'm feeling optimistic that I can get the Gold pass upgrade and Dining Pass added to my season pass without going to the Activation Center. This makes me happy. One less line to stand in.

On a side note, my voucher includes a Gold Dining pass. However, I just noticed that Six Flags has a sale on the Premier Dining Pass that lists a 20% discount on all merchandise purchases as one of the benefits. Does anyone know if the Gold Dining pass also includes this discount?

According to the dining pass brochure I have that lists all the meals and benefits it says 20% off shopping is included with the Gold Dining Pass. However I saw signs in the park advertising that Gold Dining Pass members could add on 20% off shopping for $10. So that doesn't make sense. There is no mention of a Premier Dining Pass in this brochure only Deluxe and Basic.

What is the currently policy on parking with a season pass voucher with parking on it? Do they allow you in with the voucher or do they reimburse you for the parking charge?

They have always let you in the lot by scanning the bar code on the printed online ticket. However if you buy the Gold Pass/Parking Pass at the park after you already paid for parking. If you bring in your receipt, they might reimburse you.

So if I bought something at the park, I can use my pass to get 20% off of something is what you're saying? Just clarifying this.

According to a representative from SFGAm, "The Gold Dining pass also includes a 20% discount on merchandise." The following PDF also references a 20% discount on shopping:

Sorry, havnt really been active on forums.

Totally jumped on the flash sale holiday weekend. What a great deal. But did they always have the dining pass that's good for all the parks? Would've been useful. But next year it will be, as I'll most likely be going to at least SFGAm, STStl, SFNE, and maybe SFMM. That's a stretch. But another thing, it seems like next year they will have a refillable cup all year for SFGAm, and then a different one that works at all the parks. But I used my 2014 cups in SFMM, SFGAd and SFA without hassle. All I had to pay was the refillable wristband. So it seems that Six Flags is gonna crack down on refillable cups from other parks next year unless if it's the chain wide refillable cup. None the less, I'm really satisfied. I save so much money and it's very convenient. The only money I spend at the park is when I upgrade my burger to a double cheeseburger. I don't go to SFGAm as much as some people on the forums here, but I go enough to where I save ALOT. and who doesn't like saving money?
