New ride for 2016

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

^I would be fine with one if there was another attraction added the same year AND it wasn't marketed as a coaster.

Well, that makes everything clear, now, doesn't it?

In the "Coming Soon" wording, the o's are underlined. That reminded me of the Green Lantern logo, but of course, it's not quite the green lantern logo....it is one horizontal line segment short of being that logo. :D

Could something representing the green lantern mean we get a green lantern zacspin. They have a relatively small footprint and it would fit in the same spot as SWA

^ Dear God, please no. I'm not sure there is anything that would be worse for this park than a Zacspin.

^^ The worst thing they'd add is an SLC and or a Pinfari Looping Coaster.

You have to give the PR team credit ... they definitely know how to get people buzzing.

My $0.02 as a long time (like, since the park opened in '76) patron:

I think the photo of the Eagle is a complete red herring just to get people going. Given the numerous rumors over the years about the ride sinking, etc. it makes sense they'd take advantage of that.

Plus, if they are planning to do anything with the America Eagle, I would be shocked if they would drop such an obvious clue this early.

On a personal level, I hope they leave the Eagle alone and maintain it instead of modifying it. Yes, I get the RMC treatment is cool but in general (and not just at Six Flags parks) we seem to be losing a lot of traditional, classic wooden coasters. By "traditional" I mean great wood coasters that run PTC, Morgan or Millennium Flyer trains. None of this silly, over-banked-turns-you-upside-down "wooden" coasters like Goliath. Don't get me wrong -- those rides are great and have their place, but they aren't my definition of a "wooden" coaster.

The American Eagle is a park icon and has been for over 30 years. It is much more of an icon than Colossus was at SFMM. Plus, Colossus sucked as a coaster from day one. The Eagle is, by far, a superior wooden coaster in a lot of categories. To bastardize it with topper track or some other stupid marketing gimmick like retheming it as some kind of DC Comics ride would be a travesty and a truly, truly dark day for the coaster community.

That said, the park has space constraints and whatever they decide to put in next year would seems to require a small and narrow footprint. My guess -- a Joker-themed S&S 4D Free Spin like Batman installed SFFT this year. That ride checks off the typical Great America boxes: a unique ride for the market (exclusive to Six Flags right now), a proven ride (ie: not a prototype), a small foot print and a coaster/thrill ride with good capacity. It seems like a logical choice to me.

Where would they put it? The Pictorium land might make the most sense. While I have fond memories of watching the IMAX classic "Speed" in 40' air conditioned glory (a buddy of mine actually got nauseous watching it!), live shows and movies aren't the target for guests in this day and age. I can see taking out the Pictorium and using that space. The theater space in Southwest Territory seems too tight unless they moved some other things around.

In the end -- it's all speculation and we'll find out in due time.

If the Great America team is reading this -- I consider you curators with an obligation to care for the America Eagle. Times change and tastes changes, and we get that you need to keep guests happy and keep the park profitable. Don't lose sight of the heritage that made the park what it is today and make sure future generations always have a reference to the past.

I would take a 4D free spin or a Zac spin over that carnival loop coaster!

I feel like people are too hung up on what they call a coaster - obviously, Larson Loop ride isn't a real roller coaster (although Larson calls them coasters on their website too, so it's not just a Six Flags thing). But if we got one and called it a roller coaster, I'd roll my eyes a bit but I'd be fine with it, I don't think it would be the worst thing we could do (although I would hope for something better). The category they try to define it as doesn't change the actual ride experience.

What ever this is, it seems to be Comic related and something to do with a circle? Hopefully we'll get more clues soon.

In all seriousness, if the new ride is going where SWAT is a Larson Loop would actually fit in that space perfectly. It's funny, but here in Colorado our main park, Elitch Gardens, installed a Super Loop this year and it has been a huge hit from what I can tell. I thought it was a laughable choice when they announced it but the general public seems to feel otherwise. So that proves what I know. :)

People....we're not getting a Larson Loop in SWAT spot! They would not tear down a outdoor theatre to put in 1 flat ride

Has anyone considered the possibility of them repurposing swat instead of tearing it down and building a new building. So lets say thet were getting a justice league dark ride, wouldn't it make more sens for them to repurpose swat and remodel the building, give it a roof, etc. and build the dark ride inside of it?

There no way it could possibly be big enough to hold a dark ride and its queue... As much as I'd love to see it, I don't think it's going to happen...

It honestly seems stupid to tear down SWAT for anything while they still have the Ragin' Cajun spot and the ropes course spot open. It makes the most sense if they're reusing SWAT for something, or if it's something that's too big for Ragin' Cajun but does fit in the bigger SWAT spot.

Looking at the SWAT spot and the size of Justice League in St. Louis on Google Maps, they really look like they're pretty similar sizes, so I think it would work. They could probably get a little more room if they got creative with the Giant Drop queue area

the POS loop if that is what is coming would logically be bourbon street fireball and fit right into Ragin Cajun's spot. But being how this park is run logic is out the window. if they are doing that loop crap and sticking to a joker aka comic book theme then just do what is sort of over due and take orleans place and retheme it to DC comics. retheme the shops/restaurants, the bumper cars, condor if being repaired could take on a retheme and the larson loop could fit in there across from superman's entrance where the Le Chic Boutique shop is and the bathrooms would also need to be moved to fit it and a line. And if they really want to go bold move the line for dark knight outside and take the theater back and make a DC show or find a way to squeeze metropolis dark ride in there.

but again knowing the parks disregard for being a "theme park" besides sticking DC theme's on anything they can they will probably drop something comic book related in SWAT completely out of place theme wise for the area.

Since this year was an off year, I'll bet 2016 will be the Justice League Ride in SWAT and 2017 will be a Larson Loop or some other flat in Rajun Cajun's spot.

This is getting off the topic for this thread, but I don't really get why people get so hung up on "theme". Cedar Point (for the most part) doesn't have themed areas. Have you ever heard anybody say they don't like Cedar Point because it doesn't have themed areas?

Is a Larson Loop really worse than another year when we just get a show that lasts for a year?

As far as I know Six Flags hasn't considered themselves a theme park in years. Don't they call themselves Thrill Parks?
