So does anyone know what happened? I rode it last on Wednesday and recall hearing a strange noise throughout the ride (like the wheel was about to blow), but I doubt that's related to whatever happened here.
While looking at Goliath from the train station, an employee told me they're waiting for a part. Then I noticed the weights for the lift were on the ground. So I think that's the problem. The chain holding the weights to the motor/wheel must've snapped or something. So maybe it will be open sooner than we think.
I've already had discussions outside of this forum and we already know it has something to do with the motor. Don't bother asking employees, they know about as much as we do. It's all speculation.
From what I'm hearing it's prob going to be a while.
As for top and bottom of the lift, I'm guessing they're inspecting/securing the chain. The counterweight was intentionally removed, one of the first steps of removing the lift chain from all the mechanicals at the bottom of the lift.

^And before anyone asks. What he means by "securing the chain" is to prevent the chain from sliding down after the links are taken apart. This way they can do the necessary repairs without completely removing the chain.

If they have to replace the structure that the bullwheel is connected to, I'd say it's done for the year. Looks damaged and it has to be in absolutely perfect alignment with the chain to prevent damaging wear. Hopefully they can straighten it out.
