Full paint job is closer to a million bucks Besides the fact no park would ever use anything even remotely close to home depot quality paint on a ride, labor costs more than the paint itself.

Not as detailed as it used to be, but more info at http://www.baynumpainting.com/amusementparks.html

and this is the more common paints used on rides, though it would not be used on a wood coaster..

No link but SF tends to use various Sherwin-Williams industrial coatings.

Neither comes cheap

As a paint chemist I would tend to think that they would want to use an acrylic because it is much cheaper but they probably need some toughness as well so an epoxy type resin may be what they use. I would tend to think that the primary cost of getting a ride painted is the labor. It takes a long time and not many contractors are willing to paint a coaster due to lack of equipment.

In either case I am glad they are starting to invest the money to paint rides. Dont forget not only is paint aesthetic but it also protects the substrate underneath and the importance of investment to protect their rides and structures can not be understated (easy for me to say its not my money).

They weren't using them on Advocate Day but I will assume that boarding passes will be back.

A picture of how Hometown Square is looking. You can see what they have done with the train station and how it looks like they have potters made out of bricks with dirt where the grass used to be, I assume they will put trees in there. Credit to BackseatBoss for the picture. Image

That actually looks really good but where is the Gazebo that supposedly promised would be back?
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Still looks pretty concrete heavy, but I'll wait until it's finished to judge. Is Carousel Plaza any different besides the paint on Columbia?

I saw a photo of a new Coke concession stand to replace the carts that used to be on the path to Hometown Square. Exciting stuff.

^ That's actually a really good change, because those outdoor soda carts get swarmed with bees.

The banner at the bottom says Free Parking Upgrade and then $29.99. Does that mean you can get your season ticket + free parking for $29.99 at the park?

Just checked out Hometown Park. They have the concrete pads poured for each ride. They also have the middle base part of each ride installed. They are working on building some shade structures where the station and queue lines will be.

Thank you for posting the pictures of hometown park.

What are those glass balls by the Hometown Train Station?

I enjoy how Six Flags is bringing back the original theme to Hometown Square. I hope they keep it like that this time! However, I don't know how I feel about the center of Hometown Square. I'm not going to jump into any conclusions yet since they haven't finished but from the pictures I would expect more. They need to remove the umbrellas around the benches and install some that go with the theme. Those look too modern. I do like how they have the old fashion benches.

As for the Hometown Park area, I it's coming out great. I haven't been to the park in years since I moved to California a while back and only visited home during the winter, but from my understanding they still have the two games at Hometown park, correct? From reading the posts, I believe that those games will still be there. It bothers me that SFGAm won't just remove those games and replace the rides where they originally were. I mean, the new rides are coming out great but I feel like the games will just ruin the theme from Hometown Park. That area would look so much better without the games.

The games themselves don't bother me at all, I just wish they'd clean up the area behind 3 Point Challenge.

Really hoping those aren't the only trees being planted in HTS. It'd be a real shame to see what was once one the nicest areas of the park turn into..that. Not sure why they can't just put it back to how it used to be..

taking a page from the Cedar Fair school of landscaping. If you can fit Concrete somewhere, go for it! though even they have better planters. One of my fav pics from dorney I took a long time ago when they "restored" what at the time was the Hercules Midway....
