Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Hey guys.
I heard on the news that there was a power outage at SFGAm. Anyone hear anything on it. I heard rides were affected and people were evacuated, but that's about it. Was anyone there?

I was in the park during this. I've heard that AE's brakes were affected, making for a unique ride experience. The areas that were affected otherwise would be Carousel Plaza to Camp Cartoon. Security used Flashlights and blocked us from entering those areas. I just got off of Goliath and it only had downtime once for less than five minutes. Finally, we all got free admission good for the entire 2014 season as we were exiting.

It seems like the other side always wins on American Eagle :?
Also, I've ridden Goliath 23 times in one day. HBU? :P

We were in the park. It happened around 8:30; we were just about to get on the Eagle.I know it was at least from that point on past Superman to the Carousel. The other side had power. It was really kind of a strange feeling. You heard people talking, but not any park noise(if that makes sense). Superman had a train stuck on the ascent that everyone was watching. They moved it manually( no clue how) and it ran its course but not sure if it made it to the end as we couldn't see that. We did see a car at the top of The Giant Drop, but I dont know if anyone was in it.
I didn't see any one blocking anyone from going anywhere, but we left around 9:00 so it probably happened later.
Anyway,long time reader,first time poster.

Thanks guys. I figured someone would be at the park. I feel like the park is two grids. I went 2 years ago and half the park was out of power. The right side of the par starting at eagle to carousel plaza was open. Except for GD which was closed

I do know that they took one out of service and left it up for most of the day.

And the free admission tickets that were handed out are already turning up on Craigslist

Gotta love people trying to make a buck off this...

I greatly prefer ebay for those kinds of tickets.

I can't believe they gave out free admission tickets considering the time the power outage happened.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I believe it, look at it this way, everyone who uses those tickets, weather they got em at the park or on ebay/craigslist is going to have to pay $25 to park then there's likely food and whatnot involved. Park will still come out way ahead and with some good will.

By my house we have already had 3 power outages and im in the city. What is causing these outages is it Comed switching to a new grid/ system? Or could it be what I am thinking and it is Goliath causing the problems (this is just a thought dont get your knickers in a bunch)? If you look at jiggidyNDG's videos on youtube he has had numerous outage reports from 7 2 all the way to 7 19. I don't ever remember the park ever having these types of problems.

Exactly... You have to remember this: Generally speaking, SFGAm costs the same to open and operate whether 5 people show up or 5000 show up... By giving out the free admission, they admit that they screwed up and extend some good will to people who might have issues with what happened... Also, they probably bring pack people who would have only gone on that one day... Now they get their 2nd crack at parking, concessions, etc...

Iron Wolf and Goliath likely consume a similar amount of power so replacing one with the other shouldn't cause grid problems. It's likely due to the electrical infrastructure itself.

And giving away free admission after a power outage is an excellent idea. As was pointed out above, the park makes a lot of money when people purchase add ons such as parking, food, and flash passes. So generate some good will and get people back in the park.

Chill out guys. I never said it was a bad idea to give them out. Considering the park was only open for another hour or so, I am just surprised they did it.

Definitely a smart move on their part though as you all clearly mentioned. 8)

The power outage was caused by a vehicle accident on Washington and 121. I was at the park today and heard an electrician say ComEd accepted the blame for it.
