SFGAm and Single Riders

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby TwistedSTEEL666 on April 9th, 2014, 12:49 pm
Hey, I was just thinking about how many times SFGAm gets single riders per day during each season, and I was wondering is there anything that they are doing about it?

Is there any kind of single rider bracelet (like Disney has), or some kind of single rider pin button?
I know there are ways that people show (in the park, while waiting in line) that they are single riders.
They mostly keep to themselves, and act in a way that shows that they are not with any group or any other person.

Another thought occurred to me, the single rider issue (if you have to go alone to SFGAm - and face it I have done it many times before) can be solved by simply writing "Single Rider" on your wrist in big black letters with a Sharpie permanent marker in plain view for everyone to see. That could be one way to deal with being a single rider on any given day that it happens to you.

One other thing, and this is a call out to fellow SFGAmWorld members and coaster nuts out there, most (not all) of my visits to SFGAm this season will most likely be alone as a single rider. I was wondering, do I have anybody who would like to join me for a full day as a riding partner on the coasters and other thrill rides?
As a season pass holder, I will be going around 12 or more times, and if I can't get anyone to go with me on whatever particular day I choose, then I will put a call out here on the message boards for a riding partner.

Thanks.

EDIT: I will be posting Live Trip Reports on every visit from my phone this season.

In the latest Goliath Insider(April 11th), they say that Goliath WILL have a single rider line. :D

I don't know if I'm more exited about having a single rider line on one of, if not the most popular ride in the park, or having Goliath SFGAm. :? I hope they hide it as well as they did with Cajun or like Disney does. A single rider que is awesome, unless it's not saving you time. I understand it's to fill seats, but still.

It seems like the other side always wins on American Eagle :?
Also, I've ridden Goliath 23 times in one day. HBU? :P

A single rider line should, by definition, increase capacity. Even if the two lines are unbalanced, if you're sending full trains every time, then it's worth it.

Obviously it'd be possible to manage it badly and slow things down, but if it reaches that point, the park should consider hiring new ops…

This may just be because I'm a teenager, but I am not all that happy about Goliath having a single rider line. I think it is fine on a four seat coaster like Raging Bull, but on a two-seater like Goliath and American Eagle I would find it very awkward. It's a very tight space to be sitting next to someone I don't know. When I go to Great America, I am almost always with an odd number of people, which means someone would always be riding with someone from the single rider line. I may just be being selifsh and I guess I'll just have to get used to it. Anyone else feel the same way?

^^ I'm the exact opposite, roller coasters are the only place I'm fine with sitting next to a stranger. Being on rides seems to make people more sociable. A lot of the times that I had to ride with someone I didn't know I had conversations with them about where they're from, why they're riding alone, if they're scared, etc. If they just sit down and don't acknowledge you then yes it can be awkward. But if they're nice and you talk a little I've never had a problem with it. Personally I'd rather ride with a sociable stranger than by myself.

I personally prefer guys on coasters. No I'm not gay. :x I just become more self confident, don't want to seem like I'm the coaster geek that I am, and I would like to return back to the station with my hearing intact.
