12 SFGAm spots for future expansion

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Galvan on November 15th, 2013, 6:48 pm
Recently in our chats we've been talking about park expansion and new rides. While SFGAm is pretty landlocked and cannot really build with out subtracting rides and things.

I have come up with 12 potential areas that could be of future use to the park. Some require some thought, or removal of the existing things in that area to work, while others might be something to consider:

There are still a few areas the park can work with.

1. The Flumes- These thing are outdated and really should have been replaced a decade ago, Both flumes have the potential to open up a ton of space.

2. Demon Area- lets face it, Demon is the next coaster to leave the park. And this area could potentially be a huge plot of land to work with.

3. Southwest Territory Amphitheater- This venue needs a total overhaul starting with the removal of the old Operation Spy Girl set, this area could potentially be a good setting for a few flats or perhaps additional kids area (see the next location)

4. Southwest Territory stage/seating area- Combine this area with the above mentioned Amphitheater and you can add a brand new kids area, add more flats to SWT. The possibilities are endless and rerouting the paths should be pretty easy.

5. Buccaneer Battle overflow Queue- Anyone want to know where the best place in the park for a Sky Screamer or Ferris Wheel? Here's your answer.

6. Ragin Cajun Area - The obvious choice now that RC is gone.

7. County Fair Games Area- This area next too Revolution would be ideal for a Ferris Wheel or other family attraction like a Sky Screamer.

8. Pictorium Location - The Pictorium is in sad shape, and that building takes up a huge amount of space, removing that could give you a giant plot of land for a major flat or additional kids areas.

9. Bus Area near Superman - This would take some maneuvering, but possibly cutting into the Bus areas immediately next too and off the exit queue of Superman could be a possibility. The problem could be noise concerns from the neighborhood.

10. Camp Cartoon- Removing the rides in the CC area of the park (beside Sapcely's), could open up more space for newer family attractions.

11. Carousel Plaza - on the lefthand side directly across the pond, This area is built upon a hill and now features fiberglass statuettes of the Looney Tunes characters but could be an area that could fit a Ferris Wheel.

12. Yukon Territory Shops- As I mentioned in the Galvan Investigates piece I wrote in June of 2012, this area could be a perfect area for just about anything. It is the areas directly between the go-karts and V2. viewtopic.php?p=207729#p207729

And there you have my list, again somethings on this list are more far fetched the others but it is definitely worth a shot.

I know this isnt RCT, and these are major projects that could be years and year in the making. But it is definitely something to think about as we head into a long and cold offseason!

Add in old Trailblazer's spot.

Anytime I think of the County Fair games area, I think of how much I wish the building currently being used for the Medical Massacre Haunted House was a dark ride.

Is that Buccaneer Battle queue ever used?

That South West Ampitheater site would be great for a huge South West themed dark ride, in my opinion.

Having one observation ride across from another would be pretty pointless. If we ever get a Ferris Wheel, it should definitely go in the back of the park so it isn't just offering the same views of STT

I see another potential spot for a large out and back coaster.
The station and queue can be located on the right hand side of Carousel Plaza, in the wooded area behind Sky Trek Tower and use some of the space where the Go Karts use to sit.

From there a lift hill can run either parallel to Hurricane Harbor or north in the direction of Wisconsin.
The bulk of the coaster's layout can be on the very edge of parking lot or take up a little of the over flow lot.
Either way, I see this as an option for a giga coaster. Coming up with a creative layout which can go out into the parking lot and back and not be such a big problem might be an issue.

Or perhaps the coasters layout can form an L shape around the edge of Hurricane Harbor?
I think it could work.

There's also the gallows in SWT there is a hude area of land between the walking path and the sports bar and the other rides and games gallery a smaller flat would fit nicely. Also Galvan that Hill idea is too small to really fit anything because directly behing it you have bugs bunny and company and the restrooms and the lockers. Are you all also forgetting Mack In The Box? You might as well figure in the Wilderness Theater because it hasn't been used in years. While we are doing things lets add in another train station for SWT. I presume that when you are talking about DEMON's area you are also referring to the ropes corse? Dont forget DDD I would love to see a trabant ride there (yes I am fully aware of Bottoms Up) but since they dont »are about themeing anymore you could call it Two Face's Coin Toss. I realy like the flumes and want those to stay but with an inceased capacity (more boats not more people in em) Get rid of BB I easily see 2 if not 3 flats in the space. The basket ball game in HTS a decent flat could take its place. What about the space in Mardi Gras where B96 used to have their summer studio and adjoining games I smell a disko Mardi Gras Maddness anyone?

^ What exactly are we forgetting about Mack In The Box? The park has already (wisely) chosen which mouse they're keeping. The Dark Knight Coaster is not going anywhere.

I know the park made their call nothing I can do about it, Just saying RC was built in 2004 and taken out 9 years later if that is any indication of a wild mouses life then in 6 years MIB is gonna be in trouble.

Ok, I'm still adamant about this location as a possible future expansion idea or possibility.
Image

This would basically be a parking lot coaster, but the idea I think is a good one.
The red line represents the outer most edge needed for construction.
The green rectangle with the arrow shows which direction the trains would go.
The blue line is the lift hill (say 300 ft?), and the green line is the track layout (of course no additional details are shown with a layout).
Now, the purple/pink lines and outline are the queue and exit paths. There would pretty much be two bridges over Riptide Bay into the main area of the ride. The purple/pink box would be the main area of the queue with the switch backs.

I wonder, is such a location possible, does the park own this land? Can they actually build that close to the highway? Another thing to consider is that many parking spaces would be lost. But considering how land locked the park is, such a large construction project might actually benefit the park and the town itself.

Thoughts?

Alright, so the track won't go too close to the northern edge of the parking lot.
Leave a little room to buffer those houses from the sound.

Besides they're already use to the sound of the highway and the distant sounds of screaming right?

You cannot build that close to 94. I have been told that Eagle is already too close to Washington but it has been grandfathered in. Just because there is 30 feet of space doesn't make it usable.

Also, I am willing to bet that the parks sewage, electrical, water and phone lines are somewhere throughout that area you've mentioned.

There are tons of Mack Mice built in 1996 still operating. I think Cajun was removed cause it was pointless now that Dark Knight is here. Am I the only one who thinks MIB stands for Men In Black?

I actually thought about this as I was typing it out. in my opinion MIB would have been possibly better than TDK. It doesn't need such a humongous line I think that they could have done maybe a little more within that area. Isn't it mostly trees and grass behind the building?

While I don't work in the park's front office, I'd imagine that the brilliant idea of having two Mouse Coasters operating right next to each other in the same park had more to do with Ragin' Cajun's removal than anything else.

I doubt the park gets anything when a ride is moved within the chain. Heck even if it was sold outside of the chain, I'd guess SFGAm would see nothing, any $$ would go to corperate.

Unless of course you mean the money they save in the maintenance and operations budget that they can now dedicate to Goliath.

Ive pieced together 2 large plots I could see for future expansion, primarily using what you've said above. It's a great list.
The first is the flumes, wilderness theater, picnic grove and most of Mardi Gras. KC could be moved to another location or left since it is on the edge of this area and doesn't take up much space. Balloons and Jester could be moved or gotten rid of. I would keep rapids if your getting rid of the flumes. Add these spaces up and you open up quite a bit of land for something new.

The second revolves around Demon which I feel is the next coaster to go. You could use the space of BB and SWA to make this a good amount of space as well.
