Thanks to the park for inviting us to the media day event. It was great to be in the center of what will be a very busy construction site in the very near future (granted some of the tree removal and land clearing has already started).
Here are a few pics from today that I took.
Golden Shovels:
Actual Ground Breaking:
General shot (Old Iron Wolf site);
Balloon release (to display the height of the first hill): Yes there is a cluster of balloons / top center of the photo by the trees
Work going on around Picnic Grove (See the workers in the tree removing the limbs):
Top view of the Media Event (and future home to Goliath):
Funny you should ask... I did asked a SF person if I could go up there first and he said OK. Within a minute or two another SF came by and said I could not be up there. I would not overstep my bounds and did asked first since they were nice enough to open up this event to the public.

Hey, wait a minute ... so David does all that snooping around, gets in such bad trouble that he has to be reprimanded by the park president, and then he gets to turn over one of the first shovels of dirt?
/Then again, I've worked at places with far worse ways of allotting benefits.

In real life, David's name is actually Dylan

Oh, so he's not wearing the right nametag, either. Probably falsified his work information, too. Heck, maybe he's not even a resident or supposed to even be working in this country.
So here we are, a misbehaving, snooping, illegal alien, criminal employee who you wouldn't even be able to identify in a complaint because you wouldn't be calling him by the right name, and he gets to turn over the first shovel of dirt. Meanwhile, I'm a season passholder for five years and I can't even get a coupon for a discounted funnel cake.
OUTRAGE!
(How's my impression of the average Facebook poster? Eh, probably not that good — I actually spell correctly and use appropriate grammar.)
^I think people are buying Funnel Cakes less this year, and maybe part of it is because of no coupon thing. Everytime I go by a Funnel Cake place during the day, they are empty. At night, it's different, but I used to always see a lot of people just sitting outside having a Funnel Cake during the day on benches. I know I haven't bought a Funnel Cake at SFGAm though I did get one at SFStL. The one at SFStL was so fresh. I tasted so much better than SFGAm was before, but anyway - less people buying because of no coupon & the prices keep going up.

Other notes from today that were not in the formal Q&A:
1. Brandon Bruce could neither confirm nor deny reports that Ragin' Cajun will be removed. However someone else on SFGAm World said Katy Enrique confirmed Cajun will be removed at the end of the season.
2. Goliath Construction Webcam will be mounted at the top of Yankee Clipper's second lift.
3. The buildings around Goliath will be renovated/replaced. These include Johnny Rockets, Funnel Cake Foundry, M Porium, and Wolf's Den Snacks. I would guess of those, Wolf's Den is most likely to be completely replaced.
4. County Fair stage is moving. Location TBD.

At least they have some variety now with the Red Velvet available, at the very least, at the front of the park. But it didn't taste all that different to me than a regular one.
Still say Magic Mountain's funnel cake stand was the bomb diggity. Maple Nut Funnel Cake?!? Yes, please.

Gary Pohlman said they're thinking of on-ride photo, so they might use Wolf's Den for that

It's nice to hear that they're working on the surrounding area, but I hope they don't slap Goliath on everything and ignore the theme of the area (a gift shop would be an exception though.)
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Johnny Rockets replaced with one of the new in park chains.
^I think I would have liked them to make this new coaster, Fiddler's Fling, and the train station be in Yukon Territory, and than just make this new coaster an animal themed ride instead. Yukon Territory animals consist of a Wolverine, Red Fox, Bison, Falcon, Lynx, Moose (Thus, Mooseburger Lodge.) Porcupine, Polar Bear, and Brown Bear to name some. Of course, it doesn't have to be a Wolf theme. Out of those animals, I would want something like a Falcon, or a Wolverine which is different than a wolf. With a Wolverine type of theme, I'm sure a lot of people would think of the Marvel superhero, and it would help advertise the ride even more. With Fiddler's Fling, they could call it something that has to do with being colder. Paint the middle things of where the cars are attached to white - like igloos.
County Fair's theme is really random, and that's how a County Fair really is though. I'm not much of a fan of Yukon Territory because it doesn't have a whole lot of rides for me. It has Logger's Run, Go-Karts, & Little Dipper. It also has the kids section, but that technically is it's own area.

I never got why SFGAm never built a little challenge park in the overfill parking lot (not a big one, only one using some of the land the park doesn't use.
I was thinking rides such as: Ropes Course Go Karts Skycoaster Slingshot Apollo's Swing type ride.
This would free up so much space for future rides in the regular park, and they'd be making more money.

^They could have tried that before the waterpark was built, but there is no way they would do that now. Parking is much more scarce because of the entire watepark, part of Southwester Territory / Viper took over so much of the front parking lot. It's so common nowadays for people to park in the backlot.

There was a family in a minivan driving in circles in the employee lot as I was leaving; the mom got out and asked me how much was parking - had to tell her the park was closed. Heh...

Yeah, and I'm sure a nice lawsuit along with it. Six Flags has Warner Bro's owned DC Comic characters, why would they ever name something similar to a Disney owned Marvel comic hero? They wouldn't, and won't.
