how busy will May be?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

taking my daughter to six flags on may 16th for her 10th bday.. how busy will it be?? is it crowded with school field trips during this time or will it be less busy since kids are still in school during this time?? just curious what to expect for crowds hoping it won't be busy as the last time I went it was crazy nuts and that was in September... thanks!

Generally, I haven't really complained about May crowds, but school groups are hard to predict; it can be a zoo one year, and on the same day the next it could be dead.

If you get there before the park opens usually when it opens you can get on tons of rides before many of the busses get there. Try to plan your day to hit the big coasters 1st. Still it will be much shorter lines then there would be durring Summer months. Do keep in mind there is still no way to predict how busy any given days will be so results may very.

^Agreed. If there is any field trips that day the buses won't get there until 11:30-12:00, which gives you plenty of time to get your favorites in.

May is a great time to ride, way better than the summer. That's a Thursday too. Doubt you will have much of any waits at all.

^Don't forget though....There's always that chance of field trips. It's unfortunate we never know when they're going to the park.

It would take every kid going on the same day to top a Summer Saturday with good weather. All the kids won't be going the same day. In my travels nationally, weekdays when kids are in school are the slowest days.

^ The difference is in the summer the park can handle more people. In May, there's no Hurricane Harbor, no Yankee Clipper, no Railroad, and no 3 train op on any coasters most likely.

You can pretty much expect buses to be there especially during the week in May because that's the real reason why the park is even open. If they can't get those field trips, they would probably just be open on the weekends until everyone gets off. Expect field trips, but than there should be less "regular" people at least during the week. Weekends are a little different. The negative thing when going early in the season is that for me at least, some flats might be open only half of the day, and than others open half of the day. The confusing thing is figuring out when they open.

Than, also remember when you go earlier in the season, don't expect many parades (if any), of course there will be very few water rides open if any (NO waterpark), and a limited amount of live entertainment.

everywhere I usually skip school to head out and its not soo bad. last year I went to the event they had to be at the park at 4 - 7 and get in free and be first to ride x-flight. that day I expected it to be terrible since early morning it was free the crowds were really light that day. only a few buses its all about luck when you go during may. there is days where the parks empty and you can re-ride some rides and there is days where theres minimum waiting time on lines but quite a bit of busses. but I would expect it to be fine to get on all the rides once if not twice but like it was mentioned you have to remember some flats will not be open and shows will be limited.

I ALWAYS try to make it to the park in May, especially during the week. People are working, annoying children/teens are in school still. I went in May 2 years ago and many things there were only 20 min max waits to get on a ride. What a great time to go!
