Besides a taxi is there a bus or shuttle service that can take people from O'hare to Six Flags?? I'm doing tons of searching but not finding anything. . don't want to rent a car just for a day trip to and from the park with smaller children. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!! I know the metro doesn't go that far out of Chicago.
Follow signs in O'hare to the CTA's blue line (train service). Hop on the blue line and get off at the very first stop, the Rosemont stop.
At the Rosemont stop, there's a PACE bus that runs from the Rosemont stop to the park, but only runs once a day, and only appears to run some days, so it may not be very helpful. http://www.pacebus.com/sub/espd/six_flags_express.asp has more details.
It's really not very close, and since it's not a "resort" area like Orlando, there really aren't any shuttles that run that way. Not sure on your age, but your best bet might just be a rental car. It's still probably a good 45 minute drive from O'hare to Great America.
I would say you should be able to take the Metra. The metra does go pretty far, I believe it goes as far south as joliet or even tinley park. If it goes that far, I don't see why it wouldn't go as far north as gurnee. You can check but Im not 100% sure. I myself have thought about taking public transportation to the park to save on gas $.
Pace xpress bus is the better transportation to get to the park they got a stop at shaumburg and rosemont. If you ride metra youll have to either transfer to another pace bus that takes forever to get to the park. I think its pacebus 565 or 572 which only have limited service to the park. 572 stops at the washington st entrance and 565 stops at the grand ave entrance so its a long walk to get to the entrance. The xpress bus stops at the parking lot by the drop off area close to Superman the ride and it leaves depending what time the park closes.
So I actually Google Mapped it, and from where I am, its telling me to take a bus to Evanston, then from there you take UP-N Metra towards Waukegan, and then from there, another bus. SO yeah its nearly a three hour trip, one way. It'll definitely save you gas money but the trip there, def not worth it.

Joliet is further down the Rock Island line than Tinley Park. However, it's not the same line that runs through Libertyville, the closest stop to the park. Joliet to Chicago is the Rock Island line, and I think the Libertyville stop is the Milwaukee North line. The Rock Island line is the only one that runs into La Salle St. Staion. Most of the rest go into Union Station. This means you would still have to walk to another station in Chicago if you need to take one of those lines. Luckily for the OP, there is a Metra stop near O'hare, but it's not on the Milwaukee North line, so he'd still have to change trains in Chicago.
were just going to drive... i get cheap airfare so thought it would be fun to just fly down and back but having to rent a car will cost more then it will to just drive. . just thought i'd check to see if there was something I wasn't finding as far as transportation from the airport up there. . Thanks for all the info! I'm taking my daughter for her 10th bday in May. . her first time there. . she's excited!
