Fright Fest 2012
I went last night; got to Grand Ave. at about 6pm. It took me an additional half hour to get in because the parking gates were that packed. I was lucky to find a parking spot. According to a friend I met there, the other entrance was the same way. It then took me another 15 min waiting in line just to get past the metal detectors. I then wanted to validate my new pass, but the line was stretching to the carousel by that point. I decided to wait until later. Good thing I had only used my 2012 pass and not the voucher to get in. I then met up with a friend of mine who was already in a food line. She had was half way through it, and it took another 20 minutes for her to get food. Then we were waiting for other people who were in line for something else. After that, we waited about an hour for Eagle (not too bad in my opinion compared to everything else), but everything else had at least a 90 minute wait. I really don't want to wait that long for something. My friend decided to leave around 9, I figured I'd get my pass validated then. The line was at least contained in Hometown Square now, but it still took me 45 minutes to get my new pass. After that I just left, it was about 10:30. As I was walking to my car, she called me and told me it took her an hour to get out. Despite that, I continued to my car, and it took me about a half hour to get out via the Washington street exit. This was the most crowded I've ever seen the park. I don't know if I'll go on a Saturday during Frightfest again.
The park did not reach capacity Saturday, but it was the busiest day in 11 years.
The park extended hours to 10 pm tonight, which I was glad to see them do as it was insanely packed. I was there for the X Flight filming and just left right after that as everything had full queues that were covering the midway. The line just to get into the park went all the way down Grand Avenue and looked like it was spilling into I 94.
On a positive note, it's nice to see that the park continues to add Fright Fest theming during the event. There were a few things like the hanging skeletons in the bridge from Mardi Gras to Yankee Harbor and the alien in the SWT snack stand that weren't there on opening day.
They should consider lowering the capacity then. I personally didn't care if I didn't get to ride anything, but for people who hold out and make only one trip to the park per year, there was no way that was an enjoyable day, even with a Flash Pass. I really couldn't move without throwing my shoulder into anyone.
^This was (and apparently today 10/21) was typical Fright Fest.....when you have decent weather that's what you can expect....everything has lines and midways are packed. The "free upgrade to gold passes" gave a boost to attendance and probably made a significant impact as well.
People need to come to the realization that these are the crowds at this time of year. From a personal observation, the people complaining the most were the teens/tweens who primarily hang in groups and spent more time trying to walk the park and find the "shortest" line than they did just sticking something out.
Agree ^ must be the weather and the pass special. Suprizingly got to ride raging bull, whizzer, batman, xflight, viper yesterday and a bunch of flats I guess if youre patient enough to wait in line for that long youll be able to ride it. Skipped the shows pretty much use the same songs each year. Did not do the haunts because of the wait times worsts than the rides they do have a special discount for season pass holders which is a good deal 29.99 for the express haunt. Im pretty sure its gonna be packed for the last week of FF.
Wow....2 years ago I remember the park getting about that crowded n waited 3 hrs for bull at rd 7 n left.......hopefully the flash pass line next weekend isnt a long line.because I have like 16 skip the.line passes I would like to use if its gonna be that packed Sunday!
I think part of the reason why Saturday & Sunday were so crowded is because of how cold it was Friday / plus threat of rain, and maybe people even looked at the upcoming weather for next Fri / Sat / Sun. Right now, they have Friday listed at low of 38 at night, Sat - a high of 48, and Sun a high of 46. I'm talking in the 30's at night for all 3 days.

It was insane on Saturday but I am hoping that the cold weather keeps many people away next weekend. It was so bad on Saturday that it was a 35 minute wait to get food at county fair food court and the guy at the register said it had been like that since noon!
To the person who said that they should limit capacity, remember six flags is a business, why would you put a cap on the income you can make in a day? To quote somebody else, this is normal fright fest and people go with the expectation that the lines will be long. Although the number of rides I rode was down on Saturday, I like seeing the park so busy because a park that is making money is a park that can invest in things like upkeep and new attractions. Even if it was packed there was still plenty of non-ride things to do. -Remember there's nothing but air beneath the chair.

I was hoping someone could answer a couple questions for me. I have tried calling the park and no one seems to be answering. We have never been to fright fest before but have been to a few different 6 Flags over the years during the summer time. We wanted to take the kids down to Lake George this weekend but saw warnings that after 4:00 children under 12 should not go in. It is about a 6 hour drive for us, so I don't want to go unless we can go to the park for more than a couple hours. My kids are 4 and 6. Just wondering how scary would it be for them? Do the children's rides still work after 4:00? If the children's rides are still running are scary people in that area? Can the children dress up to go in the park? Thanks for any help, tips or advice.
^Personally, I would wait to take that young of kids to a Fright Fest event. The scareactors are all over the place, and they don't really care who they go after. The reason they say 4 pm is because that's the time they all come out. I believe that the children's rides do close earlier. I don't really know when, but they do seem to be empty towards night time. I'm not positive on the time though.
The thing is that the kids rides are mostly in the back of the park so you have to go through multiple areas of people trying to scare you to get to the kids rides. The only way I can see it would be okay to extend your trip to go to 2 of the shows that are closer to the front of the park, and thus it's not many scary characters you are going past. You might get one or 2 only. Love at First Fright is 3:45 on Sat & 3:30 on Sun in the Grand Music Hall in Hometown Square. Love at First Fright is about 40 or 45 min. Best way to avoid characters after this show would be to walk all the way to the side - near Triple Play. Coming out of the show that would be your far right side. Than, you walk near the train station to the main path, and it's only a little bit away from the Pictorium. Best tactic I would say is to block your children in the middle of you if you see anyone scary. Susan Rosen which is a hypnotist is at 5 pm both Sat & Sun in the Pictorium almost at the front of the park. If you do both shows, than you would be out around 6pm. That's better than 4 pm. I like both shows too, and Love at First Fright has been going on for a long time - almost 20 years. It's probably a little less than that, but i don't know exact numbers. Love at First Fright has classic monsters that I don't think are that scary. Bride of Frankenstein, Frankstein, Grim Reaper, Werewolf, Mummy, Ghost, etc. It's a musical play really. Hypnotist is not scary. It's more funny. Get food on the way instead of eating in the park which saves time in the park. Park opens at 11 am on Sat & Sun. 11 am - 6 pm would be 7 hours. ------ Just to clarify when you say children's rides, do you mean little planes that go up & down, Scooby-Doo van, or do you mean Triple Play, River Rocker (swinging ship ride), Condor, Ricochet, Hometown Fun Machine (Scrambler), Rue Le Dodge (Bumper Cars), Whirligig. <-- If it's 2nd rides, than those are spread out all over the park. The 1st group of rides, I call toddler rides because of how low the requirements are. I don't know about heights requirement much, and I'm sorry about that. Thank you! I was just looking at the schedule and I don't see either of these shows playing at the Great Escape in Lake George? I also double checked the and time and it says 12:00 to get in both days. Do they open the doors earlier then the calendar says on the website? If so, the extra hour would be fantastic and if they offered a milder show at all locations and to leave around dinner time with the kids they would be very happy. We wouldn't be staying till the end anyhow. If there was some way we could sneak out away from the scary stuff I think we could manage. This way they could still enjoy the daytime fun without the night time fright. Thanks in advance for anyone else that can offer us some help.
I was meaning the real little ones, which the kids just go on themselves. We haven't been to this park since it use to be Wiggles World area, I know the Wiggles are not in the park anymore, but from what I have read the rides still are? I wasn't sure if these areas were even open at all during Fright Fest and if so were they open later then the 4:00? My kids are not big enough for any of the coasters yet unless something heights have changed. One is just over the 40" mark, so can go on some rides with an adult.
I think we have some confusion. Are you asking about Great Escape (New York) or Great America (Chicago)? The answers Ilovethevu' provided were regarding Great America. I have been to the one in Chicago before when I was younger, but I was looking for the one in New York, this time. I am so sorry. I thought this was a forum for all 6 flags.I apologize. Thanks for the link and the clarification.
I have taken both my children (2 and 5) to fright fest both this year and last. I want to say that the childrens areas (Kidzopolis and Camp Cartoon) are open late, but i dont know if thats the case this year, as Saturday was the first and only day we could make fright fest this year, and it was packed and all we had time for were the shows. But I do have to say that the actors there pay attention to kids being around and I have witnessed them on several occasions waving to my kids, and my youngest even got to give the monkey character a high five this year. I take them to teach them that there is nothing to truly be afraid of, thats its all for fun. I hope I dont get attacked for saying this, but I have no qualms about taking young kids to Freight Fest, and they seem to have had no problems going. I just wouldnt recommend (nor do I think they are allowed in) any of the haunted attractions (MOT, MMC, etc.). However, that was just my experience at SFGAm, and I dont know if the other parks are any different.
Lines were too long for everything, not just rides. It was also difficult to move around on the midways just to get from attraction to attraction. If I paid extra to go into the haunts and couldn't get all of them done, then I would have been a little frustrated, and even more so considering I might have only got on 3-4 rides all day. Considering the crowd, that might even be an ambitious plan. There would be just that many irritated people frustrated from waiting 2 hours for X-flight, 45 minuted just to get an overpriced meal, and then pay $20 to only be able to get into 2 haunted houses. It's not good for the company when they have angry visitors who will now go home and tell their story of their horrible visit. If you limit the capacity more so than it is now, then there will still be some frustrated people, but the ones in the park will have a much more enjoyable time. My opinion only.
^I think either way you will have people mad because if you limit the capacity, than the people that want to get in the park are going to say, why can't I get in the park? I think the only way to deal with that type of high capacity is to run everything at higher capacity, and to me they should run more shows. Have every food place open. Heck, even run the train earlier for just regular guests, and not the spooky stuff till night. For Saturday, don't close Triple Play at 8:30 pm when the parade doesn't start till 10:30.

Didn't they use to open the haunted houses like at 1 or 2 P.M.? I was really mad that we didn't get to hit all of them. Yes they should have more shows. Why don't they use the show place in southwest Territory? I know we left our home at 9;30 AM and didnt make it into the park until 3:30 pm because traffic to getinto the park was sooo backed up.

^ The southwest ampitheater is used for the character candy trail. The houses opened at the same time last year and in 2010 two opened at 3 and the other two opened at 5:30. Not sure about anything before that though.
Does anyone know why they changed some of the costumes recently? The pirate captain with the red skull was brought back, all the Demons look different, and the last time I went the grim reaper and crow behind the carousel were replaced with a mummy and male vampire.
well today is the last day of fright fest...ill be heading out around 3...anyone else going tonight?

Why is the Giant Drop closed??
I saw them doing something to it at the end of the night on Friday. It looked like a maintenance cart with mechanic was on top of one of the vehicles which was at ground level, and the two rows on either side of that one were maybe 20 ft. off the ground and tied to said vehicle. Not sure whether or not it opened Saturday- but that didn't look like typical end of day stuff. It was right at 11 when we left Raging Bull, so I imagine it must have went down before close.

Yesterday in line for Demon, I was watching it and 1 cycle 5 cars got to the top and 1 got stuck 3/4 of the way going up, then 1 went down and all the other cars were stuck at the top for 10-15 minutes. In the Demon Queue next to the station everyone was talking about saying it must suck to be up there. Then as I entered the station they were lowered down slowly.
Did anyone happen to notice if Mauseleum of Terror was changed this year? Only haunt i didn't make it to.
