Old Flats

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby BMRider on February 4th, 2004, 4:42 pm
A few weeks ago, i saw some pictures of Demon from the late 70's/early 80's. There were 2 flats in that picture that I haven't seen before. I couldn't make them out so that is why I'm looking for some help. I cant find the picture so im going to describe their locations and maybe some of you know what they are.

The first one was right next to Demon's lift. I believe the name of it was Industrial Revolution. The second one was located where orbit now sits. I don't know the name of it.

If you can find pictures of what these rides looked likes or other rides like it, it would be very helpful. Even if you could get the trade name of these rides then i can find it on the flat rides web site.

Thanks in advance. (when i find the picture I will post it)

Are the flat rides on the bottom of the page on this link? The black and White looking one? I'm pretty sure that is what you are talking about.

Try contacting Greatamericaparks.com and see if they know if nobody here can help.

The one in the orbits spot looks like a Wipeout. The one by the lift hill looks like the old Haybaler before it got moved and enclosed but I could be wrong.
Waiting to fill this space with something stupid to say!

Bottoms Up and Industrial Revolution. Bottoms Up was where Orbit sits currently. Industrial Revolution was sorta where The Wall Sits now.

(tried posting this once but it didnt seem to go through, so if this posts twice, please forgive me)

Hi, I'm new to this forum, this being my first post. I know quite a bit about SFGAm and it's history and I hope to correct a few things I've seen on this forum over time and answer any questions or what not.

First off, ride where Orbit is now is Bottoms Up, a Chance Trabant(like a wipeout but with all seats facing in the same direction)

and Second in front of Demon looks like the first of 2 rides that sat there, that Being Hilltopper an old Reverchon Himilaya Type ride, similar to Haybaler but with non-swinging cars). It's either that or the Relocated Yukon Yahoo called Industral Revolution, which is the Anton Schwarzkopf Bayren Kurve which was last known as Delta Flyer in Orleans Place up until 1990 when it was removed for Condor in 1991. Hope that clears up your question.

I thought Delta Flyer was the sky ride? I guess I was wrong.

No, BMRider, you are correct, both the Von Roll skyride that ran North-South across the park was also called Delta Flyer, the name and signage was reused for the Bayren Kurve.

Also after close inspection of that photo(quite a nice 1976 or 1977 photo) with ToC in it, that is indeed the Hilltopper and not Industreal Revolution.

in 1976 and 1977 Yukon Yahoo was still in Yukon Territory accodring to my park maps of that era. Also when it was moved Yukon Yahoo was a bit closer to the main midway. Hilltopper didnt last all that long though, kinda like the Round Up that was Replaced by Tidal Waves station. :)

I have a 1976 map, however it is poster sized (big souvinear Map), I've tried scanning it in bits and pasting it together with so-so results and gave up once my scanner busted(also was putting quite alot of wear on the map). I have smaller park guide maps for about half the years since SFGAm opened. The Most recent park guide i have is either 1982 or 82 (I know I have 82). I have park guides for every year after that minus one or 2 years. I'll look through them one of these nights and figure it out and brush up on the details again (probably when the power goes out like it's been doing every other week around here) :)

This is Bizarre(got bored, pulled out the maps), up until at least 1984 there was both a Yukon Yahoo and Industral Revoution, map is vague but both rides are circular(Industral Revolution being nothing more than a circle), Yukon Yahoo is partially covered it seems (as the Bayren Kurve was when it was Yukon Yahoo), I'm starting to question my/the belief that the Bayren Kurve sat by Demon as in 1988 it was already next to Shockwave, it's last location by any means and next to Demon is Asphault and nothing else. If it ever was by Demon it had to be for a very short time. Or it was moved to the location by Demon and a different ride/attraction named Yukon Yahoo was in Yukon Territory. I know PGA(avoid at all costs, it's depressing) has their Bayren Kurve sitting next to Demon to this day called Industreal Revolution. Very bizarre situation.

The Bayurn Kurve never was placed near the Demon. It only had 2 locations. Yukon Yahoo in Yukon Territory and Delta Flyer in Orlean's Place.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
