After riding HRRR last week, I really wish some other company had built it. It's exciting and a great concept, but it rides like an Arrow. I felt shots up my back in some of the transitions. I had ridden it before it had all the kinks worked out. I heard there was updated trains on it, but it didn't feel like it. Does anyone know if the trains have been updated? I also heard Maurer Sohne was Universals second choice to build it. They waited too long to make a decision and their first choice was busy. Does anyone know who was the first choice to build it?

There have been instances where a park will present an "idea" to a manufacturer who will see it in their best interests to say thanks but no thanks. HRRR wasn't the first time and won't be the last. In some cases the manufacturer doesn't think that the idea is feasible with the technology and resources they have, and in other cases the manufacturer is busy building coasters elsewhere and doesn't have the man power or facilities to take on all the projects so the park will basically be put on a wait list.
Regarding the roughness, i'd chalk it up to design flaws.
No it is. There was only one that I thought slowed the train noticeably. I think the reason for all of these, was that Universal thought they could run all seven trains at once. According to one of the ops I talked to, they only run 4 at a time now. 3 were going when I was there.
It really is full of block brakes that just are painful. There is no reason you should be in a twisting type element that hits to blocks before the last row is out of the element. Just awful design all around.
I had no problem when I rode HRR back in February. I've read online that either the direct front or direct back are the best seats. I decided to sit in the front (just ask the ride op to wait for the second train) and it was a very intense at the first half of the ride ride. The crowd surfing turns towards the middle were fun, but the ride did die a bit at the end. I still find the loop as one of my favorite elements ever.
I don't like the ride that much. The ride to me is very blah. I guess the best part of the ride for me would be the lift. While riding that ride, the music was much better than the ride. The ride just doesn't do nothing. Also, the restraint sort of hurts in the way that it goes over a person's body. At that park, the Mummy is a much better ride with more of a point than this ride, and I really hate a non-inverting loop. It's really dumb. Also, I don't think the ride deserves to be at a Universal park because the rest of the park deals with something movie orientated, and this ride just looks like it's made by a teenager. It's very random at that park. At Disney, Rock n Roll rollercoaster isn't as random because at least it has famous rock stars compared to no one famous for this ride.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me but Revenge of the Mummy is more than just a few notches of fun ahead of HRRR for me. The Mummy, though not extremely thrilling, had great special effects and overall was just a fun ride. HRRR was actually pretty tame yet slightly painful in the very back except the drop and loop. I think the worst turn of the ride for me was the turn that is parallel to the station (when facing the lift in the station it's to your right). For some reason the harness hurt my stomach every time on that part.
Top 3 Steel Coasters: 1. The Incredible Hulk 2. Maverick 3. Dragon Challenge (Fireball)
Top 3 Wood Coasters: 1. The Beast 2. American Eagle (Red) 3. Hades
The Mummy is loads better than HRRRRRRR. It's my favorite steel roller coaster anywhere. But HRR is still a really nice ride, and I felt it was a nice large attraction for Universal Studios, and it looks great on the edge of the park. Especially at night.
