Was my home park for the past four years. If you aren't going on a weekend during the summer, chances are you won't be waiting more than 20-30 minutes for anything.
My suggestion would to start at the back of the park and work your way forward. Go straight back to Renegade and ride it a few times (this easily gets the longest line in the park, but it is also easily the best ride in the park). Excalibur will be behind Renegade, but that never gets a line ever, so ride it whenever you want. I like it, most people don't.
Wild Thing should probably be next. Its a Morgan Hyper that is a lot like Mamba at WoF. Will probably be a station wait or a little longer. Fun fact, it derailed a few years back. No one died though. Good luck.
Steel Venom is a clone of V2 (except the brake works) and is in the front of the park. This rarely gets much of a line. High Roller is the park's old wooden roller coaster located in the middle of the park. Personally, I love this ride. Its smooth, has buzz bars, and a whole lot of character. It's not huge or anything, but I love it. Ride in the front or the very back for a fun ride.
Flat wise the park is actually pretty good. They have a Floorless topspin, an S&S Swing, and a S&S Tower along with a Chaos. There is also an old PTC carousel in the front of the park.
I've always had a great time at Valleyfair. It's not SFGAm by a long shot and some places seem a bit out of date, but its a good park. Let me know how you like it.

^Two years ago I went on Memorial day weekend and the longest lines were Renegade & Steel Venom at around 15 minutes each. For the most part, every ride in the park had no wait at all.
Memorial Day will be a bit busier than most other days, but as noted earlier, you still shouldn't wait more than a half hour for anything. Unless Renegade is running a single train, which it sometimes opens with in the morning.

Chaos is no longer on Valleyfair's map. I read somewhere else that it has been removed. Bummer, I would have made it a priority to get up there this summer if they still had it.
Yes, the park has Valleyscare during October. I only went on Friday nights when I used to live up there as they were pretty enjoyable and cheaper. They have 4 or so free haunted houses which are fun to talk through, plus Renegade at night kicks serious ass.

Have fun, look forward to the TR, and ride Renegade/High Roller about a hundred times. I miss those coasters. One thing Southern California does not have: Quality wooden coasters.
Yes, I count Terminator/Apocalypse in that equation. Not a favorite.
