SFOG July 29

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby BP317 on July 30th, 2011, 9:35 pm
This was my second visit to SFOG this summer, the first being on Daredevil Dives opening day. Goliath is such a good coaster we really wanted to ride again plus Acrophobia is a great tower so we decided to take a few days to return to SFOG for some more Goliath and also visit Wild Adventures.

Image
Saw this at a shady gas station somewhere near the Georgia border. Ive seen some funny condom names before, but "Horny Goat Weed" has to take the taco for funniest.

Image
This reminded me of the Paramount Parks after they were bought by Cedar Fair mainly because of this

Image

Image
Back to Georgia, SFOG has a very close proximity to Atlanta

Image
Its like you drive through downtown Atlanta, then a few minutes later bam there is the park

Image

Image

Image
We got there a few minutes early and decided to check out the area, and discovered that the park is surrounded by various industrial parks

Image
Not very exciting

Image

Image

Image
Goliath dominates the parks skyline

Image

Image
Like Six Flags America, the bus drops the employees off right in front of the guest parking lot entrance then all the employees scramble in front of the cars entering the park to get to work

Image
These guys are enjoying some Mozart

Image
Not a bad sight entering the park

Image
The weather may appear nice in the photo's, in actuality it was in the mid 90's to low 100's all day

There was this really shady deal going on behind us which we assumed this guy sold these people tickets considering they handed him a $100 bill.

Image
But hey they score a 10 on cleanliness, it's too bad their not the CLEANEST THEME PARK IN THE WORLD!

Image
I did their entrance survey, and when I opened up my inbox after getting back I had another survey in my email. Found it kind of funny I completed the survey and it was almost exactly the same as the email survey WDW sends their guests with a few questions about Daredevil Dive thrown in there. However they added something after the survey as I was invited to be on the Six Flags "advisory panel" which had a menu of if I wanted to do focus groups or do the surveys for new rides etc. I didn't do that, but I did make sure to give them a piece of my mind about the grossly over-posted wait times at the front of the park which is the first thing people see and happens to be very close to the Flash Pass sales center.

Image
Before the park opened while everybody was lined up outside the gates this guy went right through the stroller/wheelchair gate to ask the employees questions related to his tickets

Image
Security came out with a department of the week trophy

Image
We decided to ride Daredevil Dive first because of the capacity to get it out of the way

Image
Got on the first train in the front row, then headed over to Goliath

Image
Where we were treated to this

Image
Goliath is without a doubt the best of the B&M hypers

Image
Here is us riding in the front row (back is better)

Image
Goliath does not have a mid course brake run, resulting in only 2 train operation

Image
How sad

Image
This park is has really nice terrain and is really aesthetically pleasing

Image
Definitely one of the best classic dark rides out there

Image
Apparently Acrophobia is taller than Godzilla

Image
The seats on Acrophobia are tilted out, and tilt out more as the ride ascends

Image
It is by far the best of the Intamin drop towers, in my opinion

Image

Image

Image

Image
Always found it a bit odd how this S is backwards from all of the other Superman's entrances

My theory about the "S" is that it's reversed so you see it from the coaster.
Every jumbled pile of person has a thinking part that wonders what the part that isn't thinking, isn't thinking of.

They should not score a 10 on cleanliness here

Image
Superman vinylmation?

Image
SFOGs water park is not near the park, but they do have Skull Island which you need a bathing suit to do

Image

Image
When I rode GASM earlier this summer it was very smooth and enjoyable, maybe it was a different train or the ride had just gotten retracked because it was rough as hell this time around

Image

Image
This ride operator is telling this girl to jump over the gates, and in the background the kid is climbing through the gates

I really like Ninja, it isn't too rough (for a Vekoma) and has a lot of good head choppers. The trains though are extremely strange looking with the ad-wraps and the not-repainted GASM train.

This is the one flat I remember seeing other than the kids area

This was taken mid afternoon

Without the Thomas license there really is no point to this area (plus like SFMM, there is barely anything to do in it)

Georgia Schorcherer is a lot like Iron Wolf but extremely smooth

This ride really shows how much B&M improved their standup coasters as the years went on

Goliath in the back row has got probably the most airtime of any coaster i've been on

Did they add this week? I would find it odd if they weren't originally open August 8-12

This school group was all holding hands, I am surprised they didn't take someone out

Image
It is nice that they have a plaque dedicated to Angus Wynne. I also really like how New Texas Giant has a tribute to him (The oil rig that says Angus Oil, a tribute to the fact that he was a Texas oil man)

I didn't notice before today that Monster Mansion has it's own gift store

I want one of the bat signal things! Sweet! Nice TR Brad. SFOG seems like such a nice park.
Have a take and don't suck, it's the Jim Rome Show!

Love the over signage. After the second lawsuit they probably figured the more conservative the better.

Also enjoyed the rock n roll sign when you said peace. :D

I don't get why people would climb a fence into an area where a train dangles from the track. Or any coaster for that matter. Fences are meant to keep people out of something. I don't get how someone can be this stupid. SFOG shouldn't have to pay a single cent for those signs or for lawsuits
