My trip is this week, need advice!

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

My group of six are coming to SFGA for two days, this Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd. How are crowds right now? What should we expect lines to be like? Should we get a flash pass? I also need to know what a six person FP is likely to cost and how exactly the basic FP works. Is it worth it or do I even need it this time of year? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It all depends on the weather. It looks stormy both those days with temps in the 70's

Well, hopefully that changes, I have reservations and have taken the time off from work a month ago. Right now I'm showing 60% rain Tues and 20% Wed. I'm from West Michigan and we know how fickle weather can be in these parts. So I can assume that a rainy forecast means attendance will be down, hence no FP necessary?

Im sure it will be busy rain or shine. A regular 6 person flash pass costs a little over 20 dollars per person, somewhere around $135. Definatley worth your money if your planning on spending the majority of the day at the park.

Also look into buying a twicket at the ticket booth. Or if you already bought tickets on line, go to guest services and ask about it. Theres no need to pay for 2 seperate days, you will save alot of money this way.

Top 5: 1) El Toro. 2) Maverick. 3) Millenium Force. 4) Diamondback. 5) X2.

I've got a couple buy one get one free coupons, plus a bunch of $20 off coupons, does the Twicket savings beat that?

Basing it on rain, Wednesday is going to be more crowded than Tuesday. Right now, I see 30% chance of rain, and the problem with temperatures being that cold is that hardly anyone is going to be in the waterpark, so lines are going to be longer. Also, the water rides with temperatures in low 70's makes people not go in line for the 3 operating water rides in the regular park either. For Wednesday, I would expect at most 45 minutes- 1 hr for your Batman the Ride, Superman, Raging Bull, or V2. Around Father's Day, the park starts getting more packed. Maybe, you would have to wait one time for a bunch of the flats like Triple Play, Condor, Orbit. When Fiddler's Fling gets busy, they start opening up the back area line, and that's pretty packed. Two - Three wait cycle. However, this is a Tuesday and Wednesday. Whirligig is usually no wait even during Fright Fest because they made the line too small really. I would say the 3 biggie waits are Raging Bull, Superman, and V2. And the reason for V2 long length is because it's one train.

You are going on the verge on the tables turning which means it's closer to becoming more crowded on a daily basis, but it's not July or beginning of August yet, so it shouldn't be terrible yet!

And considering rain, if it's raining steadily a bunch of the coasters will still be open except Whizzer because of the lift hill, and Ragin Cajun due to all the drive tires. Revolution might also shut down because of the slippage of drive tires that powers it to swing back and forth. That's more of an educated guess because I don't really care for that ride, so I'm guessing. Anyways, if you are interested in that ride, I wouldn't take my chances with it. Just get on it before the rain! Also, River Rocker is rocking boat that could shut down in rain for the same reason. Now, if it rains steadily for 1-2 + hours, they might shut stuff down because the roller coasters have gotten too wet. For lightning just like any other park, roller coasters will shut down, and low rides will stay open such as Fiddler's Fling, Scrambler (Hometown Fun Machine), Chubasco tea cups, Rue Le Dodge bumper cars, and Dark Knight indoor wild mouse roller coaster. I don't know if the train will stay open in lightning or not?

If you don't want to go on the not as tall rides if it's lightning outside or near (within so many miles of the park), you can always go to the Pictorium in which they have a show about the history of Six Flags Great America, than you have the Grand Music Hall with a Pop singing show, and there is a country show in Yukon Territory in a restaurant - Mooseburger Lodge.

Weather can make or break a day, but even if the forecast doesn't look good, still go to the park. I went with a group a month ago and the day had a 70% chance of rain. But we decided to see what it was like and we didn't get a drop of rain ALL DAY! You also have a hand up because you are going for two days so even if you don't get all the rides in on the first day then you know what to hit the next. As far as crowds you shouldn't have to worry that much. If the parking lot has less cars then say your average sized mall, the FP is not needed at all and most rides should be walk on. Hope you have a great time! :D

Jeez there have been so many people creating accounts and starting threads for advice on a specific date they will be going to the park.

And that is OK, right? I have now become an active member of this board. My intent wasn't really to ask about a specific date but more to understand how Flashpass works in relation to my visit, and if it is necessary according to average attendance this time of year. Sorry to intrude.

Edit: Ilovthevu' and CstrFan512, thanks for the encouragement. I will be there rain or shine and take your advice with me.

This is not my first visit, I was there eight years ago but it was an exclusive event where the park was open to only a select group so there were no lines anywhere and none of these questions even had to come to mind. Now it's time to bring the family to a non-Cedar Fair park for a change :)

Its totally cool. As long as you become an active member. I hate those people who make an account for one question and never show up again. Wasting our time and never to be seen again. Well anyway enjoy the park. I mean it. Let us know what you thought of the park!! :)

I think you should be able to get about 25 rides in each day if you get there before opening. One day I would suggest starting with Superman and then finishing the East side of the park. On the other day, I would suggest viper first because you get a faster ride up the lift hill early in the day.

You just have to be careful how you word/ask these kind of questions. Nobody actually knows a specific attendance number, weather forecast, or line-length estimation for any given day. It seems like people have indicated that this is the time of year where schools are out and parents look to the park for babysitting purposes while the vacation crowds are becoming apparent; yet the weather has been very abnormal for this time of year.

As for flashpass, you play that out when you get to the park. I always figured that I visited enough times throughout the season so if I missed a rides due to crowds or weather, it was no big deal. Your situation is different. It depends on how long you're willing to wait in lines I guess.

After re-reading my initial post I can see how this could be annoying to board regulars, my apologies. However, I have been lurking these forums for several weeks in anticipation of my visit and I have not seen (or maybe noticed) other threads like this, so I didn't know it was a trend. Forums like this that are haunted by park regulars - or those in the know - are where people usually come for information like this, in my coastering experience anyway.

that said, we had a great time. Promised trip report forthcoming, if anyone cares. Should I put it here or make a new topic?

^Welcome to tte board. We all had to start somewhere and a topic like this is how I started/found this site.

For the trip report, there is a section for those. Feel free to use others in theres as examples or go with the flow.

There is a Trip Report forum in which you put Trip Reports.
