Well if is not true then I must be hearing things.

It would make sense for them to announce it tomorrow because it's NCC Tomorrow.

Hmm, where will it go? Are they just gonna retheme Orleans Place? Also maybe one of the rumored flats will go here. :D

EDIT: THis will probably be were the mardi gras event will be now to(thats saying this isn't Orleans Place rethemed.

Thats exactly what I have heard rctfan1556. A facelift for Orlean's Place.

Its safe to assume that they are really going to change the area where Power Dive and Cajun Cliffhanger were.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Ok then. It isn't exactly the biggest annoucement of the year as i heard it was supposed to be called. I guess it's cool though.

Don't take my word for it. Its just something I heard not to long ago. Its not definite.

But if the price tag is 6 million, I doubt it would be a whole new area. That price sounds more in line to re-vamp an area.

Does anybody feel we would not be getting all these rides and the face lift if we were not hosting the coaster convention in 2005. Also the rumered B&M floorless in 2005?
Waiting to fill this space with something stupid to say!

Yes!!!
This is awsome. It also confirms the new coaster, all of the 4 rumored flats, and confirms the removal, if this line i read right: " The carousel will be rebuilt elsewhere, park officials said" of the Ameri-Go-Round. This is very good news and the new coaster and 4 flats made it the biggest announcement of the year(as they called it). Any one who goes to No Coaster Con today(Lucky, i wish i found out before jan. 2nd :( ) please report back to what went on and what announcement was made about great america. Thanx.

Well this pretty much shocked me, even though it won't be an entirely new themed area, I think the Mardi Gras "land" will be my never favorite area in the park. With the jazz and blues bands playing every night, and I'm sure there's going to be a lot of new scenery, and with the new coaster and flats, it sounds really cool. I really wasn't expecting this, especily after Superman.

Great to see that SF is doing some stuff this year. Enjoy your new coaster and themed area. Seems like the wild mouse is quite a popular installation for '04. I wonder if they are revamping Orleans or not. Either way, it's sweet.

Black's first year and we're already getting a renovated area :). Susan Storie said Ameri-Go-Round will go elsewere in the park, that will be fun to see the outcome. The frisbee looks like crap like all frisbee's, but its something I guess. I LOVE how they got a new family coaster but MAN THIS THING IS GONNA HAVE THE WORST CAPACITY IMAGINABLE.

I still don't get where the Wild Mouse is going to go. They said "The new roller coaster will be the highlight of the 2-acre expansion, located just south of Orleans Place, in front of the Racing Rapids water ride" does that make sense to you?

It means it will be in the back part of Orlean's near Yankee Harbor.

da rcman,

Why would they put it in the front of the park near stt, they already have Columbia Carousel right across from there....

Very cool! This is something that the park needs to really apply to the family atmosphere.

Just got back from Coaster Con and here is the official info that I was given:

First off, Orleans Place is being almost completely gutted, in the words of the GM, and rethemed to Mardis Gras. He claimed that only one restaurant and a few games will remain, everything else is going to be brand new. Here are the specs on the new rides:

King Chaos
Location: Mardis Gras
Colors: Yellow, Green and Purple
Height: 42 feet
Gondola Capacity: 40 passengers
Hourly Capacity: 800 passengers

Ragin' Cajun
Location: Mardis Gras
Colors: Yellow, Green and Purple
Greatest Height: 43 feet
First Drop: 40 feet
Maximum speed: 29 mph
Length of track: 1,378 feet
No. of cars: 9
Car capacity: 4 passengers
Hourly capacity: 900 guests
Ride Time: 2 minutes, 30 seconds

The Jester's Wild Ride
Location: Mardis Gras
Colors: Yellow, Green and Purple
Base width: 30 feet
Car capacity: 24 passengers
Hourly capacity: 600 guests

Big Easy Balloons
Location: Mardis Gras
Colors: Gold, Green and Purple
Base width: 69 feet
Height: 33 feet
No. of Gondolas: 12
Gondola capacity: 4 passengers
Hourly capacity: 600 guests

Revolution
Location: County Fair
Colors: Red, White and Blue
Base width: 80 feet
Height: 66 feet
Gondola capacity: 40 passengers
Hourly capacity: 1200 guests

Other info of note:

Columbia Carousel: No immediate plans are set for this attraction. SFGA plans to keep it and to possibly reinstall it in a new location at another date.

Shockwave: There are no immediate plans for selling, melting or reassembling this ride. It appears as if it will remain in limbo for at least a portion of this season.

Deja Vu: Most likely getting a new paint job, as GM described it as looking like camouflage. He also stated that they are going to do everything possible to get it up and running at the beginning of the season. He thinks that they will be able to do so. He called it "a highly sensitive piece of equipment."

Batman: Will be getting a new paint job. The new look is expected to be completed by opening day and will include yellow, so bye, bye all-dark batman. The exact setup of the colors was not made clear.

American Eagle: Will still be running one side forward and the other backward.

Demon: Will be getting a new paint job, which will remain standard black.

Waterpark: The GM and the company are still interested in pursuing this plan, but there is no immediate time table or plans for doing so at this point.

Season Pass Holders: Current and new season pass holders are going to be treated to a program called "Coasters after Dark". The jist is that season pass holders will be treated to extended hours. I was not able to discern how often this program will be offered, but the following dates and times were given.

June 16--9-11, July 21 10 p.m.--midnight, Aug. 11 10 p.m. --midnight. Seems like a great chance for ERT.

There you have it. All of these facts are documented and came straight from the mouths of SFGA personnel.
I'm gonna twist ya, and I'm gonna flip ya. Every time you squeal, I'm just gonna go faster and harder.
