It's possible that they aren't able to produce a staffing level that is up to par with management's expectations that early in the year, forcing them to open later. With new management up top, anything is possible.

Or maybe they looked at the attendance versus what they were spending to keep things open and decided it wasn't worth it. As fun as it is to marathon rides in April, it is a buisness and this is a sound buisness choice.

It's because of low crowds at the beginning of the season. They know that, and to reduce negative profit days, open later in the season, and than they will get more people to the park if they wait 2 more weeks.

No reason to open when no one goes in April anyways.

Whens Spring Break for Illinois schools? I know for Massachusetts and New Jersey its the week after the park opens, so thats why those parks are open. All parks are opening later. SFNE's opening a week later and GAdvs opening a whole month later. It makes sense in my opinion.

The one thing I don't understand is how SF st.louis opens early than we do. If this opening May 7 for us is because the low attendences we have at the begining of the season mean that st. louis gets a bigger crowds for their for few opening weeks of operation?

St Louis has better weather in the spring. Went to SFSTL's opening day in 2006 in early April, left Chicago where it was in the 40's and it was in the 70's at SFSTL that day. Same with fall, in 2009 I went to SFSTL's closing day the first weekend in November and it was in the 70's where as it was 40's in Chicago.

No matter who the management is, for as far as I can recall, the park has never even tried to be well staffed all year round, so why start now? At the beginning and end of the year, rides will be closed or open late "due to staffing" (ie, cutting costs) no matter who is running the ship.

There are usually private events happening in the week or two before the park opens. Maybe they got more corporate days to justify a later opening. Personally, I like the start of the season because I can get more rides in due to less crowds.

That sucks. I completely understand why the park's doing it though. I went twice in the first week they were open last year, and there were no lines at all. I'm sure they lost money being open so early.

Well didn't you get "lucky"... I went closing day of 2008 after my first season at CP to find it was 40 out which meant Boss could not test unless it was FORTY THREE & THBS valleyed so they left it there all day...ohh yeeahh... & the park closed at like 4pm. Overall it was a good day, cause it was week after our parks closed & everything ran with low crowds so we got to ride it all. But I'm still sour about BOSS...I was most excited for that big b*#@* ;)

^I was there that weekend too. Even though Boss and Tony Hawk did not open Sunday, the fact there were only 300-400 people there was amazing. And you missed nothing on the Boss as it was awful and painful the day before.

You know I've heard mixed reviews on the Boss. Locals tell me (friends who live there/people I don't know/employees) that its the best ride at SFStl along with Evel knieval (however you spell that). It was my main reason I went there!

I do NOT care about rough MOST OF THE TIME! ...I loovvvee SonOf Beast. ;) Honestly, I do. BUT rough is an understatement when it came to Serial Thriller at SFNE! I was almost in tears haha.

So honestly I would prob really like Boss. :)

Wow, just wow the best ride at SFStL. No mention of Mr. Freeze?? Besides me riding and thinking Mr. Freeze is one of the best at SFStL, a lot of people have said that they liked it from sfgamworld.

Those are just a few of the rides I've been dying to go on. Hopefully going to SFstL soon.

Speaking of the 2011 season...I wonder....is the general public allowed entry to the park on school days? For example like the physics and math days is anyone allowed to go to the park aside from the school groups and are there any days after opening day that usually specific groups are allowed only? I thought I saw something like the general public isn't allowed May 17th during physics day. Theres a math and science day, marketing day, scout day, etc. I wonder if we can still get in those days?

Sorry for askin, I just wanted to know INCASE my group wanted to schedule to go those days.

Best bet is to compare those dates with the operating calendar when it's posted, if it's not posted already.

If they allow people, go those days. There is never anyone there and once the groups leave (around 2ish) you get 2-3 hours of personal ERT.
