Chang gone from SFGAm

In a normal day, who spends more time at the park. Teens, or families. That should be the answer to the question right there (unless of course a VIP day). I've gone with families before and my friends before. The families stay WAY shorter amounts of times than my friends! Plus, who GOES more. Come on guys!

Families do spend less time in the park, but they also spend more money than just small groups. And what does Six Flags want? MONEY.

I hope Im not opening a large door for flooded responses but I was on screamscape and according to their site, theres still a possibility for us to get a new coaster for 2012. I wonder if the same rumor gets made every year about us getting a new coaster soon? Just wondering what was up with that "rumor" on screamscape.

^That post (on screamscape, not you) was a complete waste of brain cells to even read. The logic behind their thinking is worthless. They said "will good things come to those who wait?" Hello, Six Flags just got out of bankruptcy, the chances of a new coaster are slim to none. Sure, some parks are getting new coasters, but just small family crap.

The only good thing one park is getting is Chang, and that's Great Adventures Green Lantern....and even that's not a new coaster, just a ride rotation.

From what i hear, as of right now, we should expect something decent in 2012, no word on what it may be, but it looks like it should cover a lot of space. Of course all it takes is one management change and then new parade for us!

Also besides that there are other good additions at various SF parks this year besides chang, SFOG is getting their pretty big custom Eurofighter, Texas Giant just finished it's makeover, last piece of track went in the other day, while probably a bad idea for the park itself SFMM is getting the US's first ZacSpin from Intamin.

^I don't know where you get your info from, but I'll just let you know that people on screamscape are delusional. And others are just like "oh we'll get something good in 2012" just like they said for 2011. It just passes on and becomes a never ending cycle. You get your hopes up and then whine and complain when we don't get what you expected.

To the person who opened this can of worms, it's not just SF Great America. Almost every park gets these type of "rumors" each year. In the case of the Orlando parks, they happen every few days.

In 2002 SFGAm announced the removal of Whizzer then later that season the banner at Whizzers entrance was taken down and a few days later cranes showed up next to Shockwave with no announcement of removal. Last year they went to the city with plans to build Chang and parts of the ride even showed up at the park, and look how that turned out. A couple years ago SF announced they were going to build Wiggles World at SFMM and look how that turned out. Look at what hapenned with SFNE and Dark Knight, they publicly dispelled rumors of Scream Machine being removed even though they had plans to start removing it later that season, etc. Lesson being in regard to Six Flags, anything is possible and I wouldn't take anything as fact, or anything that is fact that it's actually going to happen. SF has a recent history of changing plans and has shown they can design things rather quickly (seen the plans for the new mouse coaster at SFNE? )

This is just a speculation. If we were to get finally get a major coaster (by major I mean Raging Bull standerds) in 2012, I wonder if we would see constuction work for it on opening day this year. I remember back in 2008 on Kings Island's opening day they were already doing ground work for Dimandback the entire 2008 season and had hints for the coaster posted all around the constuction site. Does anyone think we could see the same thing near Splash Water Falls former site?

This is just my speculation IF and I highly mean IF they did have plans for a big new coaster in 2012.

I really, really, wouldn't count on it. Unless it's a ride rotation, Great America won't be getting a coaster.
Six Flags usually does groundwork a lot more quickly....Green Lanterns groundwork did start a season before, but it wasn't until close to the end. But then again, Great Adventure did need extra time to remove GASM, but in Great America's case, all they really need to do to clear the land is tear out some cement and queues.

Hopefully Iron Werewolf will finally be leaving IF we get a 2012 coaster? I don't know anyone who enjoys that ride. My one friend rode it 12 times in a row. He is insane.

Iron Wolf is near irreplaceable, especially if you're wanting a big coaster. Where you going to fit it? Iron Wolf is very unique because it uses very little space.

DejaVu, Shockwave, Skywhirl, etc were all removed for maintenance related reasons and they found things to replace them with, if it costs too much and isn't popular then nothing is irreplaceable. They could easily remove Iron Wolf and replace it with something.

there are quite a few various coasters that could fit on IW's land. Eurofighter would be an easy fit, really anything with a vertical lift hill would be easy, anything from B&M can go there, they've fit more coaster into less space before. Actually now that I think about it, there really isn't any kind of coaster that wouldn't fit into IW's space, except for say a hyper. Of course unfortunately there are currently no plans to remove IW so it's all moot.

That made me El-oh-el. It's true, families spend more. However, teens and young adult groups usually buy the flash pass more.

Families that go to the parks together spend more than teens. Period. End of story. That doesn't mean teens can't go with their families and it doesn't mean teens can't go with their friends and enjoy the park. Many families can go to the parks and enjoy the coasters together. At the same time, kids that can't go on the big coasters can enjoy the smaller coasters/attractions geared towards them with mommy while the other members of the family go on the coasters. As a little kid I went to SFGAm and enjoyed rides like Loggers Run and Whizzer with my family and as a teen I went to SFGAm and enjoyed the park with my friends. What made Great America (or any amusement park) successful was the park being a safe/friendly atmosphere where friends and families could spend time together.

Lots of little kids want to go to SFGAm with their families to go on the rides, I know I did, but if the parents feel the park is not suitable for their family that's when there is a problem. When the quality of the park started slipping they kept up the attendance by adding more coasters, eventually families stopped going because the atmosphere/clientle were not as inviting plus no investment in attractions other than coasters. This is why SF did a complete 180 in 2004 and changed their advertising/new rides to be geared more towards families. SFGAm has always been known for thrills and had plenty of ads geared towards teenagers

So please, no more of the "they shouldn't build any more coasters" or "they shouldn't build any more kids rides." The formula of a successful park can be very complicated but the fundamentals are not, it can't be geared for just one group of people.
