$20 does seem outrageous but when you think about it, it will get people through faster because for most people its just one bill, they won't have to count change. Just a thought.
Tax.
There's tax now? They didn't have that in 2008 (I have season parking last 2 years) Great America Visits

Unless I'm mistaken Tax is surcharge.
I don't park.
There is no tax for parking. It's an even dollar amount.
^The park does have to pay tax on it, but you are right in the public never is charged it on top of the $20. It's just added in.
Carpool, or park somewhere by the park and walk.
Season pass parking is $70. If you always go with a friend, split it up, and its not all that bad... Around the world and back
Currently, no food is served in that room. Its just a place to hang out, that not a lot of people know about, as it always looks closed. However, as was stated before, all the doors are unlocked, and its nice and cool in there. Also, as FParker185 pointed out, that is a GREAT place to warm up during Fright Fest, as the heat works just as good as the AC does in the summertime. But, when the former Buffett Le Grand (forget at the moment what other places were in there over the years), that was one place that you could sit down and eat. There is lots of tables outside of that building, along with outside the Cyber-Cafe and up to the Ice Cream place.
I was out at the park 3 weeks ago now on a Sunday. Around 11:30 AM I was on Eagle, and noticed the line of traffic trying to get into the park. Not only was 2 ( or 3..can't remember) of the 4 lanes on I-94 North a solid line of non-moving cars (going as far south to at least Route 120), there was also a line of cars backed up going in via Washington Street. That line went as far as I could see east towards O'Plane Road. Keep in mind that Washington Street right in front of the park is under construction, and is down to ONE Lane in each direction. So, if you are the poor sap trying to go up Washington Street to get to other points west, you were SOL that day. While I can see people taking time to decide if they wanted to spend $15 or $25, does it really cause that much of a backup? If I remember right, were there not signs going into the parking lot before you got to the booth letting you know the prices? I would think that would be enough time to figure out the price of parking. Besides, it was probably listed on their web page too, so people who went on-line to find out about the park would know ahead of time. But, I will add that not only could you pay for your daily parking there, you could also purchase a Season Parking Pass, as well as use a credit card for any of the above. Here is where I think the delay was. If you did use a credit card, they made you SIGN your receipt. That, IMHO, is where the delay came in. Also, the fact that Season Pass Parking people had to give the parking attendant your pass, let them scan it, and print you a receipt probably did not help matters. I did notice the last time I went (yesterday), they just looked at the pass, verified I had the parking, and waved me on. Much faster that way. Someone also mentioned the fenced area for Season Pass parking. While that may come in handy on days I don't go at opening, when I do go for opening, I'm one of the first people in the parking lot. I always park in the same spot too...first row just out from where SSA used to be. And, since I never leave the park during the day, I have no reason to park in the Season Pass lot. All I know is I'm glad I spent the $70 for my parking pass. With 31 visits and counting, I got my money's worth!  --Brian
^To add to the scanning on the pass taking time, if it's a pass from another SF park it will not scan. Depending on if the employee listens to people telling them that (they never looked the 20 visits I made this year) or not, it can lead to huge delays. My first visit with it was something around 25 minutes to figure out.
